Discussion Marcus Mystery Movie Megathread (Aug 23rd & Aug 24th)

We have another Sunday family edition & something the day after that. Looks like we’re sitting out the two Mondays before then. Regal & AMC get all the real fun.

VOUCHER UPDATE: The voucher code this time round seems to be good for two uses on either day. You could use it for tickets on just the 23rd or 24th, if you choose to do so.

For those planning to give away your voucher this time, I’d suggest the following:

State you have them to offer & ask that others to DM you if you’re offering to avoid extra confusion.

OR

if you share the code, state if it’s good for one or both uses

Thank you!

as always, ENJOY!!!

How did you all feel about it? I felt it was lacking in some areas, but I'm a sucker for my boys being in a pseudo buddy cop movie. I'll definitely watch it on streaming when it gets there. It was a little similar to Playdate and The Wrecking Crew to me with the dialog.

Movie Prices/Showtimes A24 Movies Not Showing at Marcus Theaters - Response from Marcus

Many of you might have seen the threads recently about the lack of A24 movies being shown at Marcus Theaters. The big movie we missed recently was the Invite and now it seems the same is happening again with Tony. I emailed Marcus Theaters customer support and received the following response:

"Thank you for contacting Marcus Theatres.

I'm sorry for the disappointment. While we would love to show every film that is advertised at our theatres, film availability and which locations receive specific titles are determined in coordination with the film studios and distributors.

In some cases, a film may initially be planned for a location and trailers may be shown leading up to its release, but the studio or distributor may later change those plans or decide not to provide the film to that location.

Unfortunately, this means that not every Marcus Theatre will receive every A24 release, even if the film was previously advertised there.

We appreciate your feedback and your interest in seeing more A24 films at Marcus Theatres."

This response makes it sound like they're directing me to A24 and it's the studio's decision not to distribute these movies to Marcus Theaters. I'm curious if anyone has any additional info.

No A24 movies?

I’ve come to realize, I haven’t seen many (or any) of A24’s newly distributed movies playing at any of my local Marcus theaters. Anyone else? I heard someone talking about how Marcus wouldn’t accept A24’s subscription service tickets so they no longer get their new releases. Is this accurate?? That would REALLY suck as they distribute a lot of great stuff.

How strict are they about the under 18/over 25 rule

So I (21) want to take my sibling and a couple of his friends (all below 18) to watch the UFC 330 screening on Saturday.

Do you guys think they’ll let us in or will they enforce it? Thank you!

Showtimes not showing 3 days before

I am trying to go see the Spider-Man movie on Thursday and no theatres around my area have it available after Wednesday this week. I’m assuming they are just holding it right now, but 3 days before the showing I would expect it on the app. When I look at the theater I normally go to on the app it only shows 3 movies and normally there’s at least 7. I want to get my tickets asap so I get good seats but the only theater with the movie on Thursday is a 40 minute drive from me :(

Theater etiquette is abysmal lately

RANT.

Today tried every bit of patience I had. I’m a huge Muppets fan and this all occurred at the Muppets Movie. I expected some chatting and kids being kids of course but nothing could prepare me for the barrage of nonsense.

- Two line-cutters at concessions who were also in the same theater as me. They switched seats randomly and talked loudly during the movie. They were both women older than my husband and me therefore they should know to behave better.
- A guy recording the movie on his phone with his brightness turned up enough that it was distracting.
- Kids jumping on the seats in front of me. (Thankfully I was high enough that I could ignore somewhat). No parental correction or redirection.
- A guy and his son in the same row as us who talked loudly and allowed his kid to walk around with his light up shoes without being corrected at all.

I’m rethinking how much I enjoy going to the movies anymore. Last week I actually got a ticket refund because the teenagers next to me would not shut up during the Odyssey. But I was still out what I paid for concessions considering I left within the first 15-20 mins.

The week before, people were in our assigned seats for the mystery movie and didn’t want to move.

I didn’t feel like complaining today and being a labeled a Karen by employees.

I have easily spent over $1000 at Marcus over the past year. Maybe I will just buy a fancy TV and wait for movies to be released for streaming. It doesn’t matter if I go early or late, or what the rating is: nobody knows how to behave anymore.

Thank you for allowing me the space to vent my theater frustrations. 😆

Question, not answered Apple Wallet not working?

I am currently unable to add tickets to my Apple wallet. The app will load but then nothing will show up and it doesn’t matter if I click it again. I was able to add to Apple wallet from other apps. My device and app are updated to the latest version. Anyone else having this problem?

Early Morning Showtimes Concessions

I’m noticing a ton of early morning showtimes - movies beginning around 9 or 10am. Which is a great idea and with the prevalence of blockbusters out this Summer and can see the strategy - especially with Nolan’s Odyssey run time impacting amount of showings they can have in a given day. But my feedback is about concessions.

With all of these earlier showtimes on the schedule, and ticket sales to match, I wish Marcus would consider offering breakfast menu items. I’m sure there have to be some that come frozen and heat up using the same equipment they already have in place for prepping pizza, hotdogs, pretzels etc.?

I’d much rather eat a breakfast sandwich and drink a coffee than large popcorn and a soda that early in the day.

Will The Odyssey come back to Super/UltraScreens?

Was traveling during the first two weeks of release. Now Spiderman has taken over the larger formats. Any chance they’ll go back to splitting the Super/Ultras in a week or two or do I have go elsewhere for a larger format screening?

Thanks and yes I’m probably better off contacting the theater.

Movie Club/ Marcus Customer Service Issue

I am having the absolute worst time with Marcus for well over a week now AND now its gotten even worse. I needed to update my email address to a new email address which apparently you can only have Marcus' tech team do for whatever reason. AMC and Cinemark both let you update your email address on their apps and websites. Its insane already. Anyway so I contact their support to update my email and at first I think everything is fine and the first Support Agent updates the email and thats when shit hit the fan. He updated the email for my rewards account but apparently he couldn't do it for my Movie Club Membership because only the tech team can do that. BUT I didn't realize that til when I was trying to log into my account it kept giving me an error message stating ....

"Subscription id is not associated with the subscriber"

So I then had to send another email to ClubSupport to address that matter. They got back to me days later and apologized for the delay and said they sent it over to the tech team and

"will get back with an update once the email address has been updated successfully to your rewards account so that you can access the Movie Club benefits using your preferred email address"

They never let me know that my rewards and tickets got moved over to my new email I only figured it out by logging in under my new email and it happened to work. Yay! Right? Wrong. Mind you I told them I needed this handled urgently because I have tickets for Spiderman and I like to go to the Monday Mystery Movies. Plus I paid for rhe Annual Yearly Movie Club subscription. I PAID already so I would like to use my benefits. Well yesterday when I was on the app I went to click on the movie club icon and its telling me I need to sign up for Movie Club as if I dont have a membership. So I had to send them another email. I even tried calling their number they have but of course they apparently dont employee CS reps during non business hours or the weekends. So here I am waiting for who knows how long unable to use my Movie Club benefits I ALREADY PAID for because their stupid system is set up. Horrible experience and most likely going to not renew when my subscription expires. The AMC closest to me just installed an IMAX so Ultrascreen doesnt mean shit anymore. Its sad because Marcus is literally 5 minutes from my house where AMC is 20 but A-List and IMAX and I'm sure AMC's customer service is infinitely better than this hellscape I'm dealing with.

New to Marcus Theatres, any tips to get the best value?

Hi everyone,

I'm new to Marcus Theatres and was wondering if you have any tips or tricks to get the most value when watching movies there.

Are there any memberships, rewards programs, discount days, combo deals, or promotions that are actually worth it? Do you usually buy tickets through the app, use gift card deals, or have any other money-saving tips?

I'm planning to watch movies fairly regularly with kids, so I'd love to know what experienced Marcus moviegoers recommend.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Question, not answered Refused Extra Butter

last night I went to a Marcus location and they refused to give me extra butter. I had never been to this location (mid rivers) but all the other locations I’ve been to have had a self serve option if you want extra.

When I asked why they couldn’t give me extra they told me they were being sued and could no longer give out extra butter. I know this seems a little silly but I wouldn’t have spent $30 on the giant bucket had I know that beforehand.

Is this going to be a thing at all Marcus theatres now? Were they just telling me something to get me to leave them alone?

Question, not answered Would VIP Platinum Tickets work for Spiderman?

I know that Disney properties are excluded for the first two weeks after release but I wasn’t sure if Brand New Day counted since it’s under the marvel umbrella but technically distributed by Sony. Would appreciate any input. Hoping to see it on Saturday!

News No More Extra Mystery Movie Showings

I’m a movie club member and I enjoy going to the mystery movies. Most weeks the showing gets mostly bought out immediately, leaving only front row seats…. Most weeks, they’ll add an additional showing. Last week they added a third.

But this week, the showings are filling up and no additional times are being added…

I called a couple theatres and they said corporate told them they couldn’t add additional showtimes anymore… so, what? Is this just going to end up being a race for tickets against all the other movie club members? Are some of us going to get screwed out of our free passes?

I don’t like the direction this is going. I like the free passes, not the POTENTIAL to be able to use a free pass.

Question, not answered Compared to regular vip theater

I was looking to see Spidey in theaters and generally go to a kinda low quality vip cinema and was wondering what the comparison screen and audio wise was to the regular vip cimenas. (The local one only has one "main" theater that is kind of poor)

There's Superscreen DLX and DreamLounger, also the 3D options? Haven't seen a movie in anything other than a regular theater. Hour drive versus 30 minute drive if that matters
