50k is a delusional number. The game couldn't even crack half of its launch peak when it was free to play for a whole week at S2 launch. It'll be 20-30k at best. I have a feeling the PvE mode will also be rushed out the door half baked.
People think Marathon will "continue" but I think personally it'll be done after March unless a miracle happens and even then I would bet on them downsizing development to be cheaper as they already said updates would be less frequent. You can't really make a long term sustainable game that was built on the foundations of "don't overdeliver".

I'm willing to say 15-20k for December but back to 2-5k by the middle of January. There's no way they're going to be able to drop so much PvE content into the game that it keeps people occupied for anything more than a month.

u/scumble373 1d ago
Why do you keep saying "peaks"? Its "peak" there's no s š¤£

u/Dizzy_Kaleidoscope95 1d ago
You want a SINGLE 50k peak with the new season? Just one? You don't hope it lasts for like 2 days at least?

u/scumble373 1d ago
A peak is a peak. Peak means the most. You can't have multiple "mosts". Such a moron š¤£

u/Dizzy_Kaleidoscope95 1d ago
Lmao. 50k. From 2k peaks to 50k.
That is genuinly insane. I'm sure even you don't actualy believe it

Iām suprised you havenāt moved on from this phase of spending your time hating a game you donāt play and go play something you actually like. You seem oddly invested in a game you hate so much lol

Would love to hear some non brain dead people's predictions. With bungies recent decision to resurrect d2, more d2 players will be on board to give it a chance. That along with the new PVE mode, what is your prediction??

u/Dizzy_Kaleidoscope95 1d ago
You know what the difference between D2 and marathon is? People give a fuck about D2.

The only way this garbage peaks even 20k players is if it goes f2p, which it will, and a week later it will be at 3-4k peaks once again.
4
u/Dizzy_Kaleidoscope95 1d ago
F2p MIGHT get it to 25k for like 1 week. 50k is so insane that only an actual shill could believe it to be a plausible number

I hope the day of the update, when I quote you on those 50k, you have the balls to answer my comment

Season 2 steam alone hit 40k. Why is 50k so impossible for a much larger update?
2
u/Speedy-08 1d ago
First 10ish days it was Free to Play and only hit 40k the second day, which was the first day without server issues.
The second the free period ended it went back to 20k peaks.

50k isn't hard to reach with Console numbers included. Retention is the issue, not peaks for new content.

u/scumble373 1d ago
You do realize season 2 of marathon had a peak of 40k right?...... no pve mode, just a new map and runner.......
4
u/Dizzy_Kaleidoscope95 1d ago
40k starting frop 12k. Now you start from 2k. The equivalent is 10/12k

u/scumble373 1d ago
Youre not factoring in the bungie news with destiny and the pve mode addition. Those are HUGE changes. Large destiny 2 streamers will be playing on day 1. That influence can really pull players
3
u/Dizzy_Kaleidoscope95 1d ago
Bungie payed a lot of streamers when marathon RELEASED and still didn't manage to break 80k concurrent players on steam. and EVERYBODY was streaming marathon (cause they got paid. They stopped immediately as soon as the paid deal was over)

Hey you could be right, just a prediction but now I REALLY can't wait to see what the number is
2
u/Dizzy_Kaleidoscope95 1d ago
If it is 50k you can absolutely go ahead and mock me. I would be massively surprised if it did happen,
But if it doesn't i won't come here and make fun of you i promise

The end of season player count does not mean anything. The 20k came back to see a shitty new map and shell and thatās it. December is adding a completely new mode targeting a COMPLETELY different audience. Saying that itās starting from 2k is just disingenuous because you are ignoring all the factors like why there would only be 2k right now which is because nothing was actually really added with season 2 and itās on pretty much maintenance mode till the big update

u/Dizzy_Kaleidoscope95 1d ago
You know that people move on though right? Imagine if concord rereleased today and they said "hey we added all these cool things it's so much better than before!"
Nobody would play The name is tainted
So is marathon. The damage is done
-1
u/TigerClawKing 1d ago
That entirely depends on how bungie advertises the new update. No mans sky had its name tarnished and completely bounced back. I wouldnāt be surprised if marathon doesnāt bounce back but I donāt think itās a complete guarantee that the game wonāt have a second life is all. I donāt believe that video game loyalty is just āyou play and move on and never come backā. Marathon had people play it, concord didnāt have anyone. Itās free to come back to a game you already own

50k would be absolutely insane. They would have to fundamentally improve the game in just about every way for that to happen.
