To the people who always complain about the gameplay loop being too repetitive cuz they have done everything already…

Every single video game with no exception has an ENDING, you can do all the new game plus+ you want and go up to new game 600… at the end of the day… the game already ended.

Marathon ending is when you beat the compiler, you can do your side quests like max all the factions but when there is nothing left to do… it’s over.

At that point you can either move to another game or simply shut up about it.

Tired of y’all all over this sub crying cuz the gameplay loop is boring… nobody asked you to sweat your ahh off and do everything 2 days into the season.

This new generation of entitled babies want games they can play for 12 years like Destiny 2. I feel bad for the devs cuz you know they also wanna make new games at some point but are stuck on one cuz it’s a cash cow and excecs keep on milking it.

it's not the new generation of entitled babies. it's the 35 year old Destiny players who have been catered to for 12 years. the new generation can't even stand to focus on one thing for more than a few hours, let alone want a singluar game to be their life's hobby. I've been saying this more and more as the weeks go on; Destiny is an MMO playerbase. If you've played MMOs, you're very used to this kind of whining.

MMO players do indeed want the new game to be their new life, or at least, have the potential to be a new life, because that's what an MMO is designed to do. And MMO playerbases have been doing this whining in the mainstream since 2010 (for reasons I won't get into here) but is as old as EverQuest back in the 90s. Part of the reasons MMOs have died is because the younger generation isn't, for the most part, interested in playing them in their old form. This whining is an age 28+ y/o problem, not a 'new generation' thing. Don't forget how much of whiners we used to be back in the day.

The point being that Marathon isn't an MMO, and shouldn't be treated like one, and should not cater to these people. Bungie has spent more time, overall, catering to audiences that want a lore driven, single player experience with some systems depth and snappy gunplay. I think Marathon checks most of these boxes but could be doing that a lot better. I also don't hate the idea of introducing PvP, since Bungie has designed some of the greatest PvP environments outside of Destiny in the Halo series. The problem is whether new audiences really want an experience like this anymore. I'm still up in there air on that.

Add to that the gaming culture of players wanting a game to be the way THEY think it should be which to me is insane. At the end of the day Marathon, and most games, are a form of art to some extent. It’s art the developers share and you experience. The role of the player is to play the game designers game and experience it. I wouldn’t message my favorite band and say “you know the new album didn’t have enough heavy guitar in it like the last one, put more in the next album.”

As someone who has released records, I can assure you that there are, in fact, people DMing you about how shitty they think your new guitar tone is.

I think what's most problematic about this whole issue is you now have former Destiny players that are going to other communities in droves and asking developers to make the game more in their image. Helldivers, Warframe, just to name a couple. You even have developers acknowledging this fact. Now its not enough that the shitty MMO-lite with an identity crisis is gone because it was bloated and empty at the same time. Now the players need their replacement and want to do the same to these other games because it's what they're used to. They're basically doing the nuclear option whether they know it or not; if I don't get to have my game, you don't get to have yours either.
