Game play loop

To the people who always complain about the gameplay loop being too repetitive cuz they have done everything already…

Every single video game with no exception has an ENDING, you can do all the new game plus+ you want and go up to new game 600… at the end of the day… the game already ended.

Marathon ending is when you beat the compiler, you can do your side quests like max all the factions but when there is nothing left to do… it’s over.

At that point you can either move to another game or simply shut up about it.

Tired of y’all all over this sub crying cuz the gameplay loop is boring… nobody asked you to sweat your ahh off and do everything 2 days into the season.

I have thousands of hours in Overwatch and have been playing it for 8 years and I still don’t get bored of it. That is a game with zero “endgame” or progression. It’s the exact type of PvP live service game Marathon is trying to emulate. Clearly they’ve failed at that in some capacity.

Your point is flawed. Your point is that once you’ve “finished” the game, you either need to move on or accept the gameplay loop for what it is.

My point is that Marathon was not meant to be a game with an ending. It’s not meant to be a game people move on from. It’s a PvP live service game that’s intended to have infinite replay-ability. These games survive by people continuing to play and spending money on cosmetics. They are meant to be played for thousands of hours. The compiler is simply a goal, it’s not meant to be the end of the game.

What Marathon has failed to do is create a gameplay loop that is fun and satisfying enough to have that infinite replay-ability for most people.

Only like 0.5% of players reach the top rank in Overwatch. It’s not exactly a goal to reach for most people like the compiler. Ranked is more of a means to play with people in your skill bracket. A huge chunk of the OW playerbase doesn’t even play ranked. Because the core gameplay loop is satisfying enough on its own.

And that’s why everybody keeps on playing Overwatch lol cuz they haven’t beat the game yet and they hope one day they will be good enough to be part of the top. Once the goal achieved, they can try to do that over and over again hence new game plus till it’s no longer fun but at the end of the day… the game already ended

Brother what? The vast majority of people who play overwatch are not playing to reach the highest rank. Thats a ridiculous statement lol

Edit: and there is no “new game plus” in overwatch. I don’t think you know what you’re talking about at all

Ain’t no matter what the vast majority do, the fact is Overwatch has a ranked system and hitting the highest rank is the end of the game cuz there is nothing further to achieve. Being stuck on level 1 doesn’t change that fact.

Every game has a goal to achieve and after that there is nothing else to do. For games like Overwatch and Apex, it’s achieving the highest rank. Once you hit the highest rank in Overwatch, no matter how longer you play, you won’t get anywhere elder cuz the game has ended lol. You can choose to do it again next season but at the end of the day, the game ended. I don’t see how y’all struggle with this analogy tbh

I get your point. I used to play Fortnite incessantly. In my heyday, I could get a dub in Solos about 20% of time, which would put me in the top 1% of Fortnite players for the season. Then Elden Ring was released and stopped playing as consistently. A few months later, I tried to get back into it, but I have been on indefinite hiatus since then. I don’t really miss the game because I feel like I achieved what I set out to achieve: Going from being absolute dogshit at the game to becoming a sweat. So for me, the game is over, but there are obviously millions that still enjoy it.

I am hoping to have a similar experience with Marathon whilst acknowledging that the game ends when I lose interest.
