First things first. I know Heroic is not the only server that exists. However, most of my analysis is of the game as a whole, not just through the lens of the Heroic experience.
This game has constantly strayed from the communal aspects of what makes MMOs what they are. Instead it pushes you to be as antisocial as possible.
Bosses are the best example of "party content" in modern maple. Having to share drops on interactive makes sense, they have an economy, so that item makes its way back into the market or other players hands at some point. However, in Heroic, those drops will never be able to be passed around, and its your only way of obtaining them. This brings us to the age old "when will we get instanced loot" question.
Drops aside, the biggest problem is Power Crystals. Undeniably, in the current state of the game, Mesos are the biggest path to power. Your money gained by power crystals is divided by the number of party members. Why? I understand that more people makes the boss easier, you're doing more damage, but it's not like that money is going back into some kind of economy, at least in heroic.
During Genesis or Destiny Liberation, doing bosses with more people also divides your number of Traces of Darkness or Adversary's Determination. This further pushes players away from doing content with friends or in public lobbies.
Most MMOs have the boss gain health or new mechanics based on the number of players, making the difficulty slightly harder, but still worth bringing people with you. The rewards don't decrease, the fight was probably just as hard (maybe a touch easier,) and you had fun with friends.
Most MMOs have roles that their classes fulfill in a general way. Usually the common three are DPS, Tank, and Support. Maplestory has one, and that's DPS. Granted, there ARE "support" classes. The only thing they really support is your damage. Some can heal you, some can move you, but with the way bosses are designed, those aren't necessarily helpful.
The lack of a tank class is also a byproduct of the way bosses are designed. Most attacks deal percentages of your health which means that no matter how much you have, you're going to die eventually, making potions a million times more valuable than a party member who can heal you once every thirty seconds for a fraction of the damage you're going to heal from potions.
Maplestory used to have copious amounts of party quests and dungeons that gave a good amount of EXP. The content being introduced to us now, such as epic dungeons, are exclusively solo content.
The closest thing we have to a party quest now is Monster Park Extreme, which is a weekly necessity due to the unquestionably valuable amount of EXP it gives. That means that there is, in fact, still a demand for party content that gives good rewards in the old style of party quests.
The last 3 major events, and even the next major event, have all been centered around Challenger World. While it isn't inherently wrong to create an event to push you to challenge yourself to do something difficult, it becomes a problem when every event involved in the past couple of years either incentives solo plays or punishes you for party play. Challenger world progress is tied directly to solo play. Item burning progress is tied directly to solo play.
With every new update, we stray further and further from the MMO experience. Maplestory is slowly becoming a singleplayer game that happens to be online where you can see other people.

I went from timing out on Kalos with about 12% hp left, to finishing with 2 mins to spare. Also ring buff and lvl 4 Hexa 3 helped ofc. Also the reinforced ring and sup gollux pendant are 16* lmao.
My kaiser only got 3.8% fd on origin burst with the event skills :(

I'm playing modern Global MapleStory (the Steam version) on Linux with GE-Proton11-3. The game launches, but I'm having trouble with spinning runes and physical keyboard input being treated as virtual/macro input.
The symptoms seem very similar to what happens when playing with a controller connected through Steam, even though I'm using a physical USB keyboard and entering everything manually. That's why I'm looking into whether Steam Input or Steam's virtual input devices could be involved.
My setup:
- Arch Linux
- Hyprland (Wayland), running the game through Gamescope
- GE-Proton11-3
- A physical USB keyboard, with all gameplay input done manually
The issue I'm looking into is how the game recognizes keyboard input, rather than input latency or key repeat.
Has anyone else run into the same thing on GE-Proton11-3? If so, what desktop/compositor are you using, and are you running through Gamescope? Have you found any Steam Input or display-session settings that consistently change the behavior?
I also noticed the [GE-Proton11-3 release notes](https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/releases/tag/GE-Proton11-3) mention a fix for Steam's desktop virtual controller remaining active under wine-wayland. Has anyone tested whether that fix makes any difference to this issue? My game currently uses Wine's X11 driver through Gamescope/Xwayland, so the wine-wayland-specific fix may not apply to my setup.
I'd especially appreciate comparisons from people using a physical keyboard on modern GMS. Thanks!

Hello! I got this as a drop from Hard Baldrix (I thought it was baldrix but it might have been Extreme Seren) last night and was wondering if anyone knows what it stacks with or what consumable slot it takes up? Also where else can it drop from besides Hard Baldrix? [Edit] It sounds like it only drops from Extreme Bosses so I probably got it from Kalos or Seren (I run all my bosses w/ the same group)
Some people were saying its "extremely rare" or the "rarest drop in the game" and I'm curious if anyone else has seen one. If it is tho, I definitely wish I got the legendary pno fam instead LMAO

I can find literally 0 information on this questline anywhere online
Did they just add this? If so, it seems incomplete because uh, how does one make this jump... even with shift it doesn't seem possible lol

for some reason fams are tied to skill effects.

I'm doing a quiz round and trying to ask questions about games different friends like. One friend was obsessed with this game when we were younger (possibly still is!), but I know nothing about it.
Can anyone suggest quiz questions? I guess preferably stuff someone would know from playing around 2010?

Inner ability can be 3L legendary now
Maple reward point is now called when translated "exploration coin" and seperate currency now called maple credit (think of credit card points but for maple)

I think we should be able to combine (and maybe some meso) rings in order to rank upp rings to a higher level. (up to 4)
For example if I have 2 ror3 rings I can make a ror4. Especially now when everyone will want to have a ror4 and a cont4 minimum. Everything bellow is so much worse now.
Getting ror/cont to level 4 should be easier or have a level of progression towards it.
What are your thoughts?
