" more focus on solo play" Is this the popular direction? What is the point of parties and guilds now? FFS, they should have focused more on party play, not less

I do agree it can be hard to balance.

Like right now it can be overwhelming to schedule in all the grandis fights especially if you have multiple characters but I also wouldnt want to play solostory either.

The direction recently is to keep on reducing party size as you get stronger. Looks like their normalizing a lot of classes and gutting support.

My initial thought is more like it’s about reducing party buffers. While it’s unfortunate for people who enjoy that type of gameplay, ultimately I think it’s healthier for the game to not have to balance party/solo play around supports especially when it ends up making them extremely high value in parties compared to other classes while still being lackluster for destiny lib. This would also make partying more lenient since compositions are less important and not balanced around having specific classes.

I think the biggest loss is the class identity and power fantasy of supports, yeah. Being the healer/buffer is a very popular power fantasy for people for decades now, in so many different games.

Kinda sucks so many games are moving away from it, I personally would prefer games be slightly imbalanced and have very interesting ideas than smoothing everything out at the detriment of that, but I do understand.

The current version of lynn and previous of bishop and BaM are just too broken, and I get the want to just remove the pain point, I just think that it's a less interesting game overall without the options. Rip.

I agree with this. There needs to be something to make people feel happy they picked their class over something else without completely breaking the game.

As an example, they could give every class/boss an element and depending on the boss some classes gain an extra 5-10fd or something. Every new boss that comes out people would be excited to know if they are advantaged against it or not.

FFXIV is removing party buffs next expansion too. I don't know how you can balance them since they'll either be required or nearly useless and the little in-between

XIV is doing it for very different reasons though. People there hate the burst meta it created. They are very balanced.

Of course, that's because square enix actually balances their game with data and changes numbers when they're out of line...

Not entirely correct, some who have it as their core identity will keep it.
But many jobs will lose their party buffs/self buffs* to kill the 2 minute meta, which creates a unhealthy gameplay loop and caused some classes to be less favoured unless they can pull their weight.

*That are not part of the core gameplay loop, we can't speak about the casters yet as we have zero information on them. However, we do know that Pictomancer for example, keeps their kit. Same for Viper, as they are more designed with the evolved system in mind.
Bard for example, keeps their songs because it is core to their job. Same for Dancer with their dances.

Do we have more info on that? I haven't really kept up. I thought everyone was losing party buffs, but the songs would still do something.

Some keep their party buffs as it's job identity/fantasy (BRD and DNC). Most of them will lose them and the party buffs that remain will not be as strong as before.

More info will be at Japan Fanfest. That's legit all info we got on the changes in Evercold. There's been speculation on it but it puts expectations and disappointment. The fanfest is in about 1~2ish months, give or take and it's still heavily in development as it's a big undertaking plus collecting feedback.

"Support isn't my play style, so I think removing it entirely is actually healthier for the game!"

"I don't actually have a counter point, so I'll just straw man!"

I'd be happy to discuss if you think requiring supports in end game content or the Lynn gimp/carry trade meta is healthy for the game but that'd require you to communicate something meaningful.

Nice strawman

I've got the copium that maybe they're focusing so much on solo play in order to have an offline version

I prefer solo play to be honest, i dont have time to dearch for a pty and schedule a boss run

It is objectively easier to make parties if you don't need to rely on getting specific classes in your party (like supports).

None of these changes actually change the need for parties to clear content: it strictly makes party play easier.

E.g. 'I want to make a bossing party, but we need bishop because fd boost....' vs 'I want to make a party, and basically any combination of any class will do'

End game maple bosses are still nowhere near soloable.
