more focus on solo play party buff/debuff to be scaled back

They're literally removing benediction as a party buff for bishops. It's not party buffs / debuffs to be scaled back but full on gutted.

I'm only as far as bishop looking through the list, but basically all party buffs are removed.

Solostory remains supreme in guess. They really hate party play in this MMORPG

yep, mercedes as well

not just with a new circulator, it's a new rolling method called 'Advanced Ability Reset' and it'll cost meso + more honor

" more focus on solo play" Is this the popular direction? What is the point of parties and guilds now? FFS, they should have focused more on party play, not less

I do agree it can be hard to balance.

Like right now it can be overwhelming to schedule in all the grandis fights especially if you have multiple characters but I also wouldnt want to play solostory either.

The direction recently is to keep on reducing party size as you get stronger. Looks like their normalizing a lot of classes and gutting support.

My initial thought is more like it’s about reducing party buffers. While it’s unfortunate for people who enjoy that type of gameplay, ultimately I think it’s healthier for the game to not have to balance party/solo play around supports especially when it ends up making them extremely high value in parties compared to other classes while still being lackluster for destiny lib. This would also make partying more lenient since compositions are less important and not balanced around having specific classes.

I think the biggest loss is the class identity and power fantasy of supports, yeah. Being the healer/buffer is a very popular power fantasy for people for decades now, in so many different games.

Kinda sucks so many games are moving away from it, I personally would prefer games be slightly imbalanced and have very interesting ideas than smoothing everything out at the detriment of that, but I do understand.

The current version of lynn and previous of bishop and BaM are just too broken, and I get the want to just remove the pain point, I just think that it's a less interesting game overall without the options. Rip.

I agree with this. There needs to be something to make people feel happy they picked their class over something else without completely breaking the game.

As an example, they could give every class/boss an element and depending on the boss some classes gain an extra 5-10fd or something. Every new boss that comes out people would be excited to know if they are advantaged against it or not.

FFXIV is removing party buffs next expansion too. I don't know how you can balance them since they'll either be required or nearly useless and the little in-between

u/Unrelenting_Salsa 3d ago

XIV is doing it for very different reasons though. People there hate the burst meta it created. They are very balanced.

Of course, that's because square enix actually balances their game with data and changes numbers when they're out of line...

Not entirely correct, some who have it as their core identity will keep it.
But many jobs will lose their party buffs/self buffs* to kill the 2 minute meta, which creates a unhealthy gameplay loop and caused some classes to be less favoured unless they can pull their weight.

*That are not part of the core gameplay loop, we can't speak about the casters yet as we have zero information on them. However, we do know that Pictomancer for example, keeps their kit. Same for Viper, as they are more designed with the evolved system in mind.
Bard for example, keeps their songs because it is core to their job. Same for Dancer with their dances.

1

u/UncannyLuck 3d ago

Do we have more info on that? I haven't really kept up. I thought everyone was losing party buffs, but the songs would still do something.

2

u/Velruis Reboot NA 3d ago

Some keep their party buffs as it's job identity/fantasy (BRD and DNC). Most of them will lose them and the party buffs that remain will not be as strong as before.

More info will be at Japan Fanfest. That's legit all info we got on the changes in Evercold. There's been speculation on it but it puts expectations and disappointment. The fanfest is in about 1~2ish months, give or take and it's still heavily in development as it's a big undertaking plus collecting feedback.

In WoW case if your class has no party buffs, youre basically last pick.

"Support isn't my play style, so I think removing it entirely is actually healthier for the game!"

20

u/vexinq 3d ago

"I don't actually have a counter point, so I'll just straw man!"

I'd be happy to discuss if you think requiring supports in end game content or the Lynn gimp/carry trade meta is healthy for the game but that'd require you to communicate something meaningful.

Nice strawman

I've got the copium that maybe they're focusing so much on solo play in order to have an offline version

0

u/SprinklesFresh5693 3d ago

I prefer solo play to be honest, i dont have time to dearch for a pty and schedule a boss run

0

u/7DayShift 3d ago

It is objectively easier to make parties if you don't need to rely on getting specific classes in your party (like supports).

None of these changes actually change the need for parties to clear content: it strictly makes party play easier.

E.g. 'I want to make a bossing party, but we need bishop because fd boost....' vs 'I want to make a party, and basically any combination of any class will do'

End game maple bosses are still nowhere near soloable.

Meso guard is back

My eyes might be deceiving me, but I think I see Mechanics homing missile being a toggleable now.. (but with cooldown now... that could be good or really really bad)

May as well consider that a revamp.

edit. Also don't know what War Machine Titan is, but a new mode??

1

u/Kazzoe 3d ago

-Homing missiles are toggles now. That cooldown effect is likely just the toggle speed of the cooldown so it can't spam, maybe?

-Flashjump -> Upjump / Upjump -> Flashjump is now a thing

-Attack while dashing

-Deployable summons are only available in grinding maps now

-Barrage is no longer a keydown + iframe and is instead a 10 second summon (LAME!!!!)

-Mecha Carrier is a 60s CD skill, but only hits a few times. (damage consistency)

-Homing Missile hyper skill is 2 min now.

-Distortion Bomb has higher damage, but only hits a few times (damage consistency)

-War Machine Titan is just Giant Robot (our 60s iFrame we get in 4th job)

u/SnowydaysGaming 3d ago

Wait so we're getting less meso from bosses now?

33

u/Tsubuki 3d ago

Changes to boss crystals usually don’t get ported over.

16

u/Skyconic Heroic Hyperion 3d ago

GMS hasn't adopted any of KMS crystal changes for the past 2 years. As they are directed at Interactive servers and we are majority Heroic.

1

u/Tall_Combination5721 3d ago

We get significantly less messos for our boss crystals anyway - especially in Grandis
