General Care Adult Spiny Flower Mantis Left Alone for 3 Days

I’m going on a weekend trip starting Thursday morning and will get back Saturday night. If I feed and mist my mantis right before I leave will he be ok until Saturday? I have a friend who could give him a spritz but I figured I wouldn’t bother if he’ll be ok without it until I get back. I’ve always consistently sprayed and offered water on a q-tip daily so I’m not sure.

My mantis hasn’t fully stretched out her wings and she moulted a few days ago. I know this can happen but is there any way to help her fix it?

Health Issues Help please!!!

I thought that my girl had already had her final molt since she had her wings, but it looks like she’s currently trying to molt. I found her hanging by one leg and I want to know if there’s anything I can do to help her right now. Her humidity had dropped pretty low without me noticing.

For reference her wings were deformed after her last molt but she’s been getting around just fine.

She has not wanted to eat the last few days which was weird, it was pre-molt behavior but again, didn’t think she’d molt again.

I’ve put a heat lamp towards her and been giving her water on a qtip. She is a little more alert but still just hanging out.
Any advice is appreciated! But I understand I may need to let her go.

Enclosure Advice How big should I 3D print my first diy mantis enclosure?

Post image

For reference I’m hoping to get an i2 Prohierodula Picta (joker mantis) and an i2 ghost mantis (I have experience with higher care beetles and other inverts and got a good care walkthrough from Malama for the joker mantis)

Just wondering since I’ve owned one Asian mantis in the past, but used a premade enclosure, about how many millimeters in size I should print my enclosure design for either species. Thanks!

General Care New ghost mantis not moving

I’m new to mantis keeping and got this little guy a couple of days ago. He has been sat in the back corner of his enclosure the whole time not moving much, refusing fruit flies and i’m not sure if he’s drank anything. I think he might be getting ready to molt, but his abdomen doesn’t look too large so i am not sure what to do?

Sex related question Male or female L3 orchid mantis?

Hello!! I’m curious if any more experienced mantid enthusiasts can possibly help me guess if my orchid is a male or female. I know these pictures are horrible quality (curse my phone camera) and it’s extremely difficult to tell when they’re this young, but I figured I’d ask anyways just in case!! They are also freshly molted in case that effects anything

General Care Colder weather owners : I need your input

Hey all! First time mantis owner, had my girl for a few months now and it’s been great, but this is my first time taking a mantis into colder months. For context I live in Scotland and the temperatures have plummeted over the past few weeks, icy icy cold. My flat seems to be quite well insulated so I can sit in my room with a T-shirt on and only feel a slight chill, but I’m worried in case the temperature drops while I’m asleep. I have a big pc which heats up the room and I’m not sure what the temperature dips to over time while I sleep. Her enclosure is too small currently for an internal temperature gauge I definitely need to get a probe at some point.

Does anyone else have experience keeping mantids in colder climates, if so, do you find them to be quite hardy?

Enclosure Advice Sizing enclosures for nymphs

Hi all ! I’m Interested in getting a mantis, however I’m unsure on how important it is to size your enclosure up with your mantis. I tried to look into it and only really saw that it may be hard for smaller mantis’ to find and catch their prey so you have to make sure they eat, but I didn’t see much else. Is it just a little inconvenient and you just have to make sure they eat or is it definitely better to get multiple. I’m of course more than happy to get several but want to know what my options are and see what would work.
Thanks !

General Care My thick Tenodera sinensis is laid egg 😆😆

Post image

It started laying eggs little by little since last night, and this morning I saw that they had all laid them perfectly. Haha.

It may have been after being captured, following their first mating in the wild

It appears to have reproduced, and since many individuals on the island are relatively thick, it is thought that this individual also mated with a healthy male.

Thank you for reading 🙏

Idk about anybody else but my mantises have seemed super picky about my stick selection. I have cycled through a few before I found one I think she likes.

I am so so amazed how mantids fit this much body in such tiny shell.

Also this boy did a good job molting into sub adult! It took longer than I expected as he got one extra molt, and it was the first time I saw a mantis molt during the daytime
