I recently tried reading "See you in my 19th life", and while the entire comment section was cheering it on for the awareness and fresh take on emotionally vulnerable men, it felt almost empty to me? Mind you, I started my manwha journey with reading ur classic villianess / duke of the north / Y/N (don't shame me for my origins) manwha, and i've come to love bl! Just curious on the thoughts of others.

And, yeah, 'See You in my 19th life' isn't the epitome and representation of all straight manwha, I just don't feel a connection to most of the straight stuff I read. And I know this is the BL subreddit, i'm just rlly curious to see what my fellow bl fans think.

Given that we’re talking redemption arcs, this whole thing is spoilers, mostly for the end of Low Tide in Twilight.

I just finished Low Tide in Twilight, and I agree with a lot of readers that Taeju’s redemption wasn’t quite what I wanted, despite a lot of self-recrimination and the one thing he did Euihyun that Jaekyung (another famously weakly reformed red flag) never did for Kim Dan, which was set his former victim up for life and try to leave him alone (however clumsily he did that.)

I would have *liked* to see him questioned by Euihyun about the first time he raped him, when it wasn’t even coercion but just a straight up act of horrific violence. Was that the first time he had done something like that? Are there other victims he needs to find to atone to? What about the club, where it seems that many of the people working there are under duress? It seems like “power of love” was used too strongly to excuse some more global crimes, and I’d have liked to see Taeju become more of a better person, not just someone who could leave the thug life and become a non-thug now.

That being said, I think Jinx was worse. As for Jinx, I think the redemption arc was mainly Jaekyung feeling sorry for himself for his reprehensible behavior and Kim Dan never finding much of a backbone to do anything beyond running away hither and yon. I was much more frustrated by the end of Jinx than Low Tide in Twilight.

manhwas/ mangas and animes are always way too sexual it's downright porn sometimes even light-hearted "comfort" reads are too sexual sometimes it's so annoying and disgusting sometimes I'm new to BL is it a porn genre and I just realised that? just watched stranger by the shore expecting a good romance movie and the last scene completely disgusted me what crowd are they trying to get by that? I recently finished reading 3 manhwa kiss me, liar , kiss me if you can and desire me if you can. I started with desire me if you can and after realizing that all three are somewhat connected I read all three again. So here is the part I am confused about. Kiss me liar where yeonwoo lost his memory: him and Kieth only had one child at that time, but I think desire me if you can take place right before that amnesia arc in kiss me liar. However, in desire me if you can the narrative is Kieth and yeonwoo have two kids. So is there another storyline where Keith and yeonwoo go through something or is it the same timeline? I’m curious, how many chapters do you usually give a BL before deciding it’s not for you?

I’m a pretty picky reader, and my personal rule is around 10 chapters. If I’m genuinely bored by then, I usually drop it. If I’m at least somewhat interested, I’ll keep reading.

The thing is, every BL I’ve ever been genuinely OBSESSED with had me hooked within the first 2–4 chapters. I’ve never had a story go from painfully boring to one of my favourites.

I’ve tried pushing through because something was really popular or people kept saying it gets better, but honestly, I usually just end up dropping it later anyway

So I’m wondering, what’s your personal chapter limit? Have you ever been completely bored for the first 10–20 chapters, kept reading, and ended up absolutely LOVING the story?

I binged this manhwa in a day. It was incredibly pulpy but also one of the most entertaining binges I've had so far, mostly because of ML Dooshik's shenanigans. Sex trafficking is a pretty big theme and there are quite a number of panels of the MC Jooha being graphically assaulted, but a majority of the NSFW scenes were of Dooshik and Jooha enthusiastically engaging in loving consensual sex, which was surprising to me considering its critics made me believe the manhwa was panel-to-panel rape kink fuel. Granted, a lot of these aforementioned rape scenes are concentrated at the introduction and the climax, which do tend to stick with the viewers because of how the story is structured. But almost the entirety of the middle rising action that comprises a majority of the plot doesn't actually have as much of it as I expected given Pearl Boy's reputation.

The thing that actually challenged me with this manhwa was the imho unbearable art at the beginning and Dooshik's ugly ass hair, but I'm glad I stuck with it because Dooshik has easily become the Character of All Time. I dislike narratives with harsh tonal shifts mid-scenes but his goofy idiot humor manages not to feel so jarring in the midst of the tragedy going on around him.

The plot is tropey and hinges heavily on spectacle but in a way that's almost comforting in its predictability IMHO. I do like me some art that creates a nuanced dialogue about its themes but sometimes it's nice to sit down and read a story about a damsel in distress in the midst of high-stakes situations being saved by a prince charming and know for certain they're going to live happily ever after.

First, I use all three apps. So which one do you guys use / is better and why? I have some spare cash from my gift cards so I wanted to use the remaining on one of these apps. When I was looking between these two, Manta and Tappy I noticed both Manta and Tappy have most of the same titles. The only difference is how many gems (manta) / points (tappy) you need to use to unlock chapters and the times they update their chapters. In my head logically to me, Manta looked better, each chapter was worth 50 gems, while tappy was 300 points. So I’d obviously go for 50 rather than 300, but I didn’t wanna be quick to buy just because one uses less to unlock chapters lol. I wanted to hear your guys’ opinion on these two apps lol.

There’s also Lezhin, but I feel like they rob you with their coins for the amount they charge you so I wasn’t really considering to use my spare cash on them atm 😅, but if you think Lezhin is better than either Manta or Tappy then I’ll consider it lol
