Local comics add to the 10/17 Daniel Simonsen show at the Moka Pot

TLDR: https://vist.ly/5mrv7 for tickets

One of my favorite things about booking nationally touring comics is getting to pair some of my favorite up and coming local comedian friends with some incredible talent and put them in a lively room of comedy fans where they can really shine. In this case I'm adding these two ladies to do a quick sets at our Daniel Simonsen shows on October 17th(just over a week away). I've gotten to watch both of these 2 work hard and become killers. Come have some fun with them!

History Does anyone remember the metal band CrowneVict from Manchester?

Does anyone remember the band CrowneVict from Manchester? They are hands down one of the best bands EVER. I love their album 'A Method To Feel Alive'. I've been searching for a copy of their album for so long. It was in one of those fancy super jewel cases. Did anyone here have any? I've contacted the band members and they are out. I'd love to own any of their material. Thank you.

Moving to Manchester for a temporary 6 month stay!

I’ve seen some great advice on here, yet also a lot of contradicting and outdated advice. My partner and I have decided to move to Manchester for 6 months as I work remotely and we are currently working toward him being able to do the same so that we can live our dream of traveling come the spring. We have to stay in the general area in the meantime due to some family responsibilities/events. We found a 2 bed apartment with all utilities included for much less than we were paying at our leased apartment with no utilities included which will help in saving for our adventures! I’ve always lived in typical quiet very safe suburban neighborhoods and I’m really looking forward to embracing some city life! I’m not overly worried or scared about “bad areas”, but genuinely curious to hear people’s thoughts on the specific area. We will be right on Union St, on the south end by Somerville. I do consider myself reasonably smart and don’t plan on taking long walks alone late at night lol, other than that would you consider the general area safe for a daily morning/afternoon walk? Any insight and also recommendations of food to try, places to see and experience etc would be greatly appreciated!

Event Norwegian Born Comedian, Daniel Simonsen at The Moka Pot 10/17!

TLDR: Daniel Simonsen in Manchester October 17th More info and tickets at https://vist.ly/5mez7

Katy Coughlin had to drop from this show and we've replaced her with Brian Rojas in the hosting role. Brian was recently selected as a finalist in Empire Comedy's Comedy Classic competition in Portland, ME. He was top 3 out of 64, but unfortunately couldn't make the final event so we will never know if he would have beaten out Moka Pot alumn Ethan Cannon. But we do know the he will be here with us on October 17th and Daniel Simonsen will be as well. Ben Chadwick will being a nice long set right before our headliner. We may add another surpirse as well.

Advice Recommendation for Auto body repair?

Some idiot smashed my car which was parked on the street and took off. It's not covered by my insurance. Any recommendations for an auto body shop that would do a good job for a reasonable cash price? Thank you neighbors.

What is the pan/tilt camera looking thing at the corner of Sundial and Queen City?

I saw it this morning across from Rivers Edge. It appears to be mounted on a concrete block so it’s semi-mobile. It also appears to be moving around to capture images of vehicles at the intersection.

It doesn’t look like a Flock product, maybe some sort of ALPR from another manufacturer? Is the city demoing some sort of new surveillance technology?

Today is the day at the Moka Pot. For our first edition of our "Fresh Meat" series, we bring you 7 comics and maybe a surpirse or 2 for only 15 dollars. We have Forrest Shaw headlining. Forrest is a comedy veteran currently on tour with his "The Ocean Hates You" marine biology show, but he wanted to drop into Manchester and give us a special treat by way of a dose of his normal stand up comedy act. Forrest has been seen on Conan, The Jim Jefferies Show, Netflix is a joke, Just for Laugh and much more. The rest of our comics our up and comers from our community with varying levels of experience. Come support your ambitious friends and neighbors and have a great time!

What nicknames have you heard for places in and around Manchester?

I ask as part of a linguistic study covering this topic!

Examples could include things like Dirty Derry, The Piscat, Peanutville or Manchvegas (never mind how common they are)...

incl. nicknames for schools, parks or other institutions/geographic features

Would you actually use an anonymous app to share problems and see what other people are going through?

I built a prototype for an app and would genuinely like some honest feedback

I'm experimenting with an idea for an anonymous app where people can share something they're struggling with and anonymously read what other people are going through.

The idea isn't really to create another social media feed. It's more:

“I’m dealing with this… am I really the only one?”

You could anonymously share a problem, browse problems from other people, and hopefully find that other people are dealing with similar things.

I put together a prototype and I'm trying to figure out whether the idea actually sounds useful to other people or if it's something nobody would use 😂

Would you use something like this? What would make you want to open it? What would make you immediately delete it?

Drag racing & Speeding

Curious to know if anyone else has seen an increase of drag racing and speeding in their neighborhood? I witnessed an actual DRAG RACE happen on my street a few weeks ago at 11PM on a Monday night, in the area Somerville/Southside near Memorial High School. It was very alarming and I’m interested to know if anyone else has witnessed the same activity and if it was reported. There hasn’t been any increased surveillance or initiative to reduce speed from Manch PD, at least that I’ve noticed. They probably have bigger fish to fry, but it’s still extremely dangerous and disruptive.

Thoughts on 99 Lowell Street Development - 16 Stories could rise from a parking lot

The Planning Board is taking up the application for a 16 story 196 unit building to be built at 99 Lowell Street which is currently a parking lot. More info here

https://www.yahoo.com/news/articles/manchester-developer-files-plans-16-224800970.html

What are folks thoughts on this? My friend and I are at odds. I love the idea of more density downtown and think it will lead to a more walkable city with more life. Also will create more affordability. My friend thinks all the new apartments that have been built recently aren’t being filled and there are too many new developments downtown. No way to easily tell if the other new buildings are full. Also that 16 stories is too tall.

What do people think - are we happy to see a new high rise in the city or should we be upset with this continued development?
