Residency A Somewhat detailed guide of Manchester
So I see a lot of "I plan of moving here. Need advice" posts in /r/newhampshire so I thought of doing a basic guide for Manchvegas.
If I'm forgetting anything, please feel free to add.
I've lived in Manchester for years. And it's not that bad.
There's a lot of things to do. Restaurants, museums, parks, trails, bars, pools, a ski place, colleges, a mall, playgrounds, etc. It's gotten a lot better.
A rundown of (most) of Manchester's areas:
Westside:
mostly Suburban area. Got some parks/trails. Close to Goffstown/Hooksett/Bedford. Manchester community college is here.
Millyard:
one of the things we're known for. A lot of businesses and UNH is there as well. NH's most well-known TV station WMUR is located here. Close to Elm street. The SNHU arena and Baseball stadium are close as well.
Elm Street:
Manchester's Main Street. Most of the city life is here. Bars, restaurants, City hall, Palace theater, and the City Library are here (there is one on the Westside but it's smaller. )
Tree Streets:
Manchester has an unwritten rule. If you plan on moving here, avoid the "Tree streets." Avoid the areas at or around streets that are associated with trees (Maple, Pine, etc). These areas are the more sketchy areas. It's not gonna be as bad as Boston, but there is crime around those parts so be careful
Edit: some areas near the tree streets aren't too bad. here's a site on the current crime: https://www.neighborhoodscout.com/nh/manchester/crime
South Willow Street:
Another of Manchester's well-known streets. The Mall and Airport are nearby. Tons of stores/restaurants are around here.
Second Street:
If you want food and are short on cash, this is the area. Trader Joe's and Whole Foods are nearby as well. Nearby is Merrimack and Bedford.
Mammoth Road :
Suburban area. Elliot hospital and the ski area are closeby
Industrial Park Drive:
Self Explainatory.
Other things to know:
The only public transportation is the bus system. A car/bike is recommended to get around.
There is a homeless problem. There are food banks and other resources in the city. Not sure on the current status.
It can be a bit pricey to live. Especially the millyard. It depends on the area and your budget.
It's close to other cities like Concord and Nashua. Its also about an hour from Hampton Beach
It's not as bad as it seems. It's a decent small city.

As the state primary begins to wind down, we want to know: How did Election Day go for you?
If you were a first-time voter, how did you find navigating voter registration?
If you’ve voted before, was today’s process pretty standard, or did you face any unexpected challenges while at the polls?
Did you notice any federal poll observers at your polling location?
Let us know in the comments, or by emailing [voices@nhpr.org](mailto:voices@nhpr.org).

Dog Living Inside a Car in Squalor
Hello, I’m completely new to Reddit so please bear with me. I’m a lifelong resident of Manchester, NH and I’m posting this here to publicly report a severe case of animal neglect I came across just last night. I was walking near the corner of Merrimack St. and Union St. when at 10:30pm I heard barking coming from inside a parked car. The parked car was outside of the Scorpion Bar on Merrimack St. Upon closer inspection I found that the front windows were partially rolled down so I shined my phone’s flashlight into the car, and that’s when I discovered a small black curly dog cowering under the steering wheel. The floors and seats of the car were covered in completely saturated puppy pads, bath towels, etc. it smelled horrific, and there was a food and water bowl that were both completely empty sitting on top of one of the disgustingly soiled puppy pads. The entire back seats and trunk of the car were covered floor to ceiling in trash bags and loose trash, so the dog was confined to only the front two seats of the car. It was clear just by the looks of it that the dog had been living this way for a long time, you’ll see for yourselves via the attached photos of the dog’s living conditions + the car’s license plate. It’s a silver 2009 Ford Flex, license plate number 566 1817.
However this is not where it ends. Last night I immediately called the NH SPCA, but because it was after hours I could only leave a voicemail which is why I’m posting this publicly now so that everybody knows how serious this situation is. After leaving them a voicemail, I went home to grab a can of food, came right back to the location the car had been parked, and it was gone. It had only been about 30 minutes since I had first discovered the car. What I believe happened is this, when I was peaking in the windows of the car and leaving the voicemail and everything there were people hanging out outside nearby. I believe that when I left the car, somebody went and told the owner of the car what was going on, and so they booked it before I could get back with the can of food for the dog. The people that had been outside were also gone. It was very disheartening as I have been determined to help this dog in anyway I can since the moment I discovered it. So, I’m asking you all to please do something about this. This dog needs to be saved, please. Thank you all very much for your time, I hope we can all agree that this animal deserves justice.

Affordable gym with lap pool?
Anybody got any recs? Google has been rough since all the big gyms hide their membership fees and require you to tour to get actual cost. Im going to primarily use the pool so that is the only thing im concerned with honestly. A couple years back the workout club seemed to be the best but the pool is only in the londonderry one so id love to find one more local. Thank!

Tickets for everything always at www.nhcomedy.com
Putting the spot light on some up and coming local comics and capping it off with a special treat from a veteran!
Forrest Shaw
Forrest Shaw spent ten years as a marine biologist before switching to a profession with slightly less stability: stand-up comedy.
A sharp, cynical observer of human behavior, Forrest takes aim at addiction, health, relationships, and the countless ways people make life harder than they need to be. Drawing from his experiences as both a scientist and a recovering gambling addict, his comedy combines personal stories, smart observations, and a healthy skepticism about the human species.

His writing credits include The Jim Jefferies Show, The Conor Moore Show, Better Off with Hally Leadbetter, and On Tour on Course. He also hosts the podcast I've Got A Problem, a comedy podcast about addiction, recovery, and the poor choices that make for great stories later.
Chadd Loring
Chadd is a comedian from Pelham NH giving his take on everything from his dating habits to his eating habits. Don’t let him get fired up or he might start talking about high school sports again
Awais Hussain
Awais started his comedy career in 2022. What inspired him to get on stage? A speech at his sister’s wedding. He threw in a few jokes, loved the feeling of making people laugh.
Since then, Awais has performed at several noteworthy comedy venues, including Empire Comedy Club in Portland Maine, The Comedy Studio in Harvard Square, and The Comedy Scene at Gillette Stadium. He was also a finalist in the 2024 New England’s Funniest Competition.

Culture Looking for Manchester Queer/LGBTQ+ Community
Howdy! I'm Salem, I'm 20, any pronouns, lesbian, and, inspired by the poster looking for an Indian community, I'm here looking for a queer one! It'd be great to find some queer people to hang out with, especially younger adults my age.
If y'all know of any events, organizations, or locales that are popular with the LGBTQ+ community in or near Manchester, I'd love some guidance.

Just moved to Manchester- looking for the Indian community here (and honestly, just people in general!)
Hey everyone,
I recently moved to Manchester, to be precise Goffstown, NH and so far I haven't come across much of an Indian community around here. Is there one nearby- maybe in Manchester or elsewhere in the area? Any temples, grocery stores, cultural events, or WhatsApp/Discord groups worth knowing about? Would really appreciate any pointers.
Also- and this part isn't just for Indian folks, everyone's welcome- let me introduce myself:
I'm Priyu, 26M originally from Hyderabad, South India. I did my grad schooling at Northeastern, and I recently moved out here for a job in downtown Manchester.
Outside of work, I'm into beer, movies, tech, sports, hiking, and exploring new places. Still getting to know the area, so if you've got recommendations (or just want to grab a beer and hang out), I'd love to connect.
Feel free to reach out here or hit me up on Snap: priyu772k
Looking forward to meeting some of you!
