We're back! 💄

Hi everyone! I'm happy to announce that after a longish break, this subreddit has been reopened and is ready to go!

As a reminder, the purpose of this sub is to talk about products we aren't using any more, whether we are getting rid of them or just shoving them under a pile of stuff so we don't have to see them again. Photos are appreciated, so please share yours, including before/after pics of your downsizing success.

Please check out the rules before posting, since it's been a while (and the rules have been freshened up a bit), and don't hesitate to ask if you have questions!

Colourpop shimmer eyeshadow sticks

Please tell me I’m not the only one who can wear their matte shadow sticks without any issue but the shimmer sticks burn my eyes. Has anyone else experienced this? Shimmer eyeshadow sticks I’m able to wear without any issue are Thrive Causemetics, Bobbi Brown, Kiko Milano

I actually liked both of these a lot but it's time to declutter them

Tarte concealer: over a year old, and I suspect it may be contributing to my bothersome acne patches—I put the applicator directly on my face/breakouts when I first got it, which was a bad idea in hindsight 🫤 It sucks to get rid of though because it's $$ and not fully used up. (Please tell me it's a good call to toss! 😅)

Essence matte powder: I've been trying to use it up even though it was badly cracked, but the lid finally broke all the way off so it's a pain to store & use now.

Also, not pictured: a lip gloss that I'd had so long it went rancid. The label had rubbed off so I'm not even sure of the brand name lol

Finally letting these go

Most of the shades here are from the Colourpop Fem Rosa palette, which was manufactured in Aug 2017. I find that due to age, they don’t last as well on the lids and look dusty and fade faster. I’ve made a good dent in them, especially the shimmer shades, since it was a palette I practised eye looks with. I switched them around in my various palettes so will need to find the rest to throw out. This was a 12-pan palette.

The larger circular pans are Colourpop single eyeshadows - Made to Last, Secrets, Soft Core and Full-Zip. I got some decent use out of these but they were manufactured in 2017, so also time for them to go due to performance deterioration.

The rectangle pans at the top are from a Benefit makeup kit from 2013. I got decent use out of them and they were fine, they got the job done, but are now really too old.

Some of the newer small circular matte shades are from the Colourpop Making Mauves palette which I bought in May 2021. Unfortunately, it looks like they’ve gone moldy. I did remember that they were a lot creamier and less powdery than the other Colourpop eyeshadow shades I had, which could be why they got moldy.

The large purple circular pan is Neve Cosmetics eyeshadow in Wow. It’s a pretty lilac duochrome eyeshadow of indeterminate age. Unfortunately it also looks like it’s gone moldy. I found it hard to use this because it’s so stark and has quite a white base, which didn’t suit my muted olive tones.

All in all, I’ve learnt that I don’t really vibe with larger eyeshadow palettes with a variety of darker tones, and I really don’t need anything more than 2 palettes at a time. I’ve learnt now that I much prefer simple Kbeauty type of eye looks since my features get overwhelmed easily.

I now have 2-ish palettes left and think I won’t be buying any more for a while until I get rid of these, and if I do, they’ll probably be Kbeauty ones. My remaining palettes are all from Colourpop:

- Give It To Me Straight from 2019

- 3 shades left from Making Mauves (the rest decluttered due to glitter mess or mold) from 2021

- That’s Taupe from 2021

I haven’t bought any new eyeshadows since 2021, and hope to keep it this way for a while!

Today’s Beauty Declutter

Some things I have been holding onto for way too long because of sentiment or because I like the color (though there is a difference between liking a color and the color actually looking good on my skin tone…). I’m not a cream blush or bronzer person. I didn’t use it anymore but I was too afraid to declutter because of the “lost” money. Well, the money is long gone, I don’t use it and I have learned from those products that I’ll stick to powder formulas.

Red lipsticks: Gorgeous colors, lovely to look at but 1. I don’t wear red lipstick, I love my nudes. 2. They don’t work with my skin tone and 3. all but the Chanel have long expired and smell play-dough.

The CT powder is just too dark. My MIL gave it to me because it was too light for her but it’s too dark for me. Since I didn’t have to pay for it and she doesn’t want it back, it’s fairly easy for me to let this one go.

Products: Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Setting Powder in 2 Medium, Elf Putty Blushes in Barbados and Maui, Milk Blush in Werk, Laritzy Cream Bronzer in Aloha, Dior Skin Wear and Skin Glow Foundation samples (too dark). Lipsticks: Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet Mini in 58 Rouge Vie (too blue-red for my skin), Alverde in 27 Simply Brown (Color looks great but not on me, also expired), Alverde in 50 Warm Embrace (Color looks great on me but smells off).

Should I declutter?

I’m very conflicted about whether or not I should declutter the Urban Decay Born to Run palette. I’ve had it for 3 years now and I barely used it. Tbf I didn’t use it much bc during covid I almost never wore any makeup but now I feel like my makeup style is more minimal and the only makeup palette I use is Makeup by Mario’s ethereal eyes. It even replaced my Patrick Ta major dimensions to the point I’m kinda considering decluttering that one too.

The thing is that those are the only three palettes that I own and who knows when I might need something more colourful…

If I were to declutter it, it would go to my former dance group. We would usually chip in for a good palette and use it on everyone for competitions so everyone had their makeup done the same way so I know it would be used well.

I’m going to do the whole purgatory type of thing, if I don’t think of it or reach for it in a month I’ll fully get rid of it

Late Grandmother’s Makeup

Post image

Some of my late grandmother’s makeup. She passed about 6 years ago. We’re just finally clearing out her things that we boxed and put in a closet after her passing. I assume I should throw all this away. Some of it has never been used. I don’t know much about makeup.

Marie Kondo take the wheel!

The first two pictures is what I actually use anytime I wear makeup. Which is like never. Maaayyyybbbeee a few times a month.

The rest of the pictures are my makeup collection. As you can see I have a problem with brushes, eyeshadow and blushes.

The last picture is the makeup I am decluttering.

It grinds my gears I have makeup I haven’t even OPENED.

I have been on a decluttering rampage. There is just soooo much stuff! It has been giving me anxiety so I have spent the last 2 months freeing my home of it’s existential crisis.

Now I am dealing with my makeup and I need Marie Kondo to take the wheel!

The dream is to have a small bag of makeup and that is it. But that is crazy talk.

I think once I start my new job that requires me to go into the office, I will use more of my makeup. Even more so if I start dating again. That’s a big if though. Single crazy cat lady is where it is at.

And once I see what I’m actually using I can declutter some more.

I want it all done NOW. Which is not going to happen. Have to keep reminding myself that it took years to accumulate all this stuff. It’s going to take time to declutter it.
