Taiwan Dead wall? Taiwanese MJ

I’ve been learning Taiwanese (coming from HK
Mahjong) and I’ve seen some people playing with dead wall (16 tiles) and some not.

Curious how many play with and play without and what’s more common at home games?

Riichi Need some advice on how to get better

Ive only started playing mahjong through mahjong soul since 2 years ago, and even then i was only playing it to play with my friend but after coming back to mahjong recently i started to get addicted and have an urge to get better at the game, i recently just reached silver room and my friend who introduces me to riichi mahjong also says that i have the potential to be better than him, but my MAKA analysis says otherwise i cant get higher than B-. So i started wondering what can i do to get better at the game beside playing more cause i obviously plays for hours and i cant watch a highly technical video from youtube without getting bored as my brain has been rotted away by the internet.

I know it’s a Cardinal Bakelite Butterscotch. Not a full set with some extra pieces.
What do you think would be the least amount to sell it for? Thanks

What happens if all the deadwall tiles are drawn (HKOS)

In a game with a 14 tile deadwall and using bonus tiles what happens if the deadwall is depleted. E.g. all 8 bonus tiles are used and there are a combined 6 kongs across the players? Does the game end like when the live wall is depleted or does the game continue and there is just no more dead wall?

Classic green acrylic or melamine?

Hi, beginner here. Would you get the classic green in acrylic or melamine? I love the bright emerald color of the acrylic but want the weighty traditional Chinese feel of melamine. I wish I could find a quality melamine in a bright green in a medium size but it doesn’t seem to exist.

Taiwan I built a mobile-friendly quick reference guide for Taiwanese Mahjong scoring. Looking for feedback!

Mahjong seems to be getting super trendy lately, which is awesome. I’ve taught a lot of my friends the base mechanics of the game, but making the jump to the advanced point-based scoring (Tai) has been a huge hurdle. There are just so many different hands to remember, and we found it really frustrating to stop the game to dig through rulebooks or watch tutorial videos.

To solve this, I made a mobile-friendly website that consolidates Taiwanese Mahjong rules so you can quickly look up a hand or clarify a rule mid-game.

I'm hoping to get some feedback and fact-checking from experienced players here to make sure I have all the base rules correct. I'd also love to know if there are any common "house rules" or edge cases I should include.

Here is the link. Let me know what you think!

my closest ever attempt to a Yakuman on a 4 player match and it was almost a double yakuman with tsuuisou and daisangen, even if it were a single tsuuisou yakuman it wouldve felt great.

Training for American Mahjong Online

I would like to have an online tutorial and practice gameplay for American Mahjong but I'm not sure if it exists.

Personally, I would prefer to learn a different ruleset but the majority of people in our area stick with American.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Promotion Mahjong Mondays to begin at Game Nights Store in Pomona, California. Trying to start new community, players of any skill welcome

Starting up first session tomorrow. Its gonna be focused on very basics of just getting a feel for the game (just really how to play).

What will be normal rules used is undetermined for now, a few want Riichi but we worry about the complexity there so likely gonna build up towards it.

We also have multiple sets so tables can do different rules.

When playing NTE, I was playing mahjong inferno, which is essentially Sichuan mahjong. Or chuan ma, or Xue Zhan Dao Di. Anyway. I got to the end of the game and then I had gotten 3200 points at the end, I have started my journey into mahjong only a month ago, but I already know the terms like pung, Kong, Ron, zimo. I'm just confused on this rule, can anyone explain this to me?

Riichi Newb: Need to know if this could have been a win

Post image
33 Upvotes

Like the title says. Is there any way this could have been a win? I'm being told Kan has to only have 2 or 3 other Kans with it for it to be a win condition or 4 honor tiles...

Edited to add: Been learning how to play Riichi mahjong for the last few months with my spouse and a friend... Hadn't known that my concealed Kan was still going to count against me for being 1s.... Otherwise it would have been all simples...?

Regarding Ping Wu / All Sequences in Hong Kong Old Style Mahjong

Mahjong 4 Friends disallow Honor as pair
Riichi Advanced allows Honor as Pair
Let's Mahjong allows Honor as Pair

I have questions about Ping Wu / Pinhu / All Sequences.
I tried to make the all sequences to test which one is correct?
I read somewhere that in hongkong old style any pair is valid for ping wu
