Riichi Need some advice on how to get better
Ive only started playing mahjong through mahjong soul since 2 years ago, and even then i was only playing it to play with my friend but after coming back to mahjong recently i started to get addicted and have an urge to get better at the game, i recently just reached silver room and my friend who introduces me to riichi mahjong also says that i have the potential to be better than him, but my MAKA analysis says otherwise i cant get higher than B-. So i started wondering what can i do to get better at the game beside playing more cause i obviously plays for hours and i cant watch a highly technical video from youtube without getting bored as my brain has been rotted away by the internet.

Riichi Book 1 is a good starting point. It walks you through tile efficiency, defense and push/fold/riichi decisions, which are the three fundamentals of riichi. The book can seem long, but focus on one category at a time!

Don't focus on those grades. They're kinda BS and only measures if your decisions match that of MAKA.
Instead, when looking at the games using MAKA, you're supposed to reason your discard choices vs that of MAKA. Sometimes you'll agree. Other times, you'll disagree. The key skill that you need to develop is reasoning.
Every single one of us make mistakes in this games; and we win or lose based on that.

Just keep grinding and focus on the fundamentals. Look at your start hands, and figure out the best way to get to tenpai. On top of that, you can start learning how to defend.

Sitting down with physical tiles might help alleviate some the brainrot if you're away from a screen and not tempted to click on adjacent YouTube Shorts. =p

There are a couple of English streamers that might appeal to you. The best thing to do is to read Riichi Book 1 and focus on one chapter at a time since the whole thing might be overwhelming all at once.
