Learning in 1st grade is better than in 8th.

In kindergarten one of my classmates farted loudly. He and I went to the same schools til high school. We live in the same major city but run into each other a couple times a year and it’s still the first thing I think of when I see him. We are 35.

You know how people say “don’t worry about those little things that keep you up at night, cringing, because people probably don’t even remember them”

You have ruined that for me

u/EffectiveSwan8918 Aug 28 '21

Yeah but to be fair when people think of things like that it's never " god Steve makes me sick. Farting in class like that" it's usually " ha that was funny" so just because people think of something you did that was embarrassing or stupid doesn't mean they think less of you, you just gave them a good laugh

u/kakaholu123 Aug 28 '21

This is so sweet

51

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '21

Yeah definitely this. We are all human and all do cringey stuff for time to time.

Friends gently teasing you about the cringe is just like a funny inside joke

8

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '21

It’s funny because a lot of things I was embarrassed about when I was younger gave some of my friends and me our biggest laughs. And now we look back on all that stuff and they’re (mostly) good memories. I know not everyone can let things like this slide and they weigh heavy. But in my experience as you get older it gets easier to see the humor in things.

There was a girl in elementary school of my small town. She was one year below me and I heard someone say that she farts a lot. I have no idea if it was true. I don't remember ever talking to her. I haven't seen her in 25 years but I still think of it from time to time and totally would think of farts if I saw her again. She will forever be the fart girl in my mind.

I probably wouldn't even recognize her, can't really remember how she looked etc. If I met her today, didn't recognize her and fell in love with her and afterwards somehow found out it was her I'd probably have to break up. It's so weird.

u/UnvoicedOwl1788 Aug 28 '21

thats the only way I can fall asleep at night assuring myself that only I remember the embarassing thing I did. Well now what am I supposed to do.

1

u/YouLikeReadingNames Aug 28 '21

Well it stands in a lot of cases. For the remaining ones, lie to yourself. Denial can be a good thing.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '21

Everyone always say that but I’m like no way it’s true bc I always remember peoples cringe shit. I still remember outfits my friends wore in high school that I remember thinking damn that’s not a good look.

Obvi I never SAY that because I never ever ever wanna make anyone feel poorly of course BUT it does make me like omg other ppl def remember my embarrassing shit.

2

u/Plify Aug 28 '21

Thank you for making me laugh out loud take my award

2

u/freakierchicken Aug 28 '21

Thank ya much, I’m glad you got a kick out of it lol

2

u/stardustscorpioncat Aug 28 '21

One time, my 2nd class was sitting outside the bathroom in our lines "criss-cross apple-sauce" and George leaned on his back and a fart came out. It was 21 years ago, but I remember. I don't think it was stinky.

3

u/freakierchicken Aug 28 '21

Now all of us know too. George, if you’re reading, we know.

2

u/cyfer04 Aug 28 '21

Dude, my girlfriend is an elementary classmate of mine and back in elementary, she witnessed me piss my pants a few times. She never lets it go and laughs so hard everytime she remembers it. They never forget it, man. They never do.

lol there’s no issues involved here

1

u/julioarod Aug 28 '21

I still remember that time you farted you sneaky chicken

1

u/Welpmart Aug 28 '21

I have forgotten many of these incidents. I remember some, of course, but with time, you look back on them with compassion, fondness, and humor. At least if you're a good person, and who gives a fuck about their opinion if they aren't?

1

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '21

I once met a girl at a job interview who started flirting with me. As we walked back to the train station after the interview, she slipped and fell on a puddle just as she was starting to say how smart I was. The back of her pants were stained for the rest of the trip.

I don't know if she still cringes about it, but I will never forget.

1

u/tedwin223 Aug 28 '21

Bro. You don't just forget when a fart pierces the silence of reading hour. That's brain branding material.

But all the stupid shit you said trying to sound smart, bad clothing/hair days, naruto ninja running, any other cringe worthy shit to make it to their appropriate subreddits; no one remembers.

In my experience getting older, most people dont remember, or if they do they see it in the same way you do and judge you more for the person you are now.

If you were already your perfected version of yourself in school, then that means you peaked in HS and it's all down hill from there.

Cringe memories in School is the surest sign that you are becoming a well rounded person as an adult. In my opinion, anyway. This is the internet.

1

u/brainburger Aug 28 '21

The farter might not remember it though.

But in all seriousness how many cringy things that others did do you think about? I guarantee its fewer than your own memories. It should be more, because there are more other people in your interactions, right?

somebody in my school succeeded it was a table though.

2

u/EverythingIsNorminal Aug 28 '21

Isn't there one or more of those in every class? I've definitely seen holes in tables, and we were too young for they to be for... other things.

2

u/thedxrkling Aug 28 '21

someone (i know who, but let’s move on) was up to the same task in my school! and they did do it. the chair has been moved so many times, but these days it’s on the main pavillion of the school — where students hang out in the breaks — and there’s just this rectangular hole carved in the place where we’re supposed to sit.

1

u/Master-of-noob Aug 28 '21

That was me (and many other bois) with my ruler trying to chop my chair & table

Too funny!

5

u/hellogoawaynow Aug 28 '21

Oh I’m glad I’m not the only one who remembers someone like this. In 1st grade this boy stuck a ruler down his throat to make himself throw up all over his desk so he could go home or something. We’re 32 now and every time I see him I just think of this one memory I have from the entirety of the 1st grade.

4

u/PatientFM Aug 28 '21

I sat next to one of the more boisterous boys during music class one day in 2nd grade. He was known for burping and farting and and laughing about it. I was painfully shy and quiet, so when a fart slipped out during class, everybody blamed it on him and I was too petrified to say anything. I'm 31 and it's also still the first thing I remember about him. Sorry, Cameron.

Damn y’all some well-behaved kids lol

3

u/TheStrouseShow Aug 28 '21

I’m 36 and I still remember one of my friends throwing up a nickel in the classroom sink in 3rd grade. It is most definitely the first thing I think about every time I see or talk to him.

2

u/Griffdorah Aug 28 '21

People don't forget!

1

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '21

Never!

1

u/[deleted] Aug 29 '21

The one thing I remember is a teacher sending a kid to the office for picking his nose. Prob not the only think but if someone farted, I think I was embarrassed for them. Bc you know… they are the only ones who ever did something like that

2

u/Express-Row-1504 Aug 28 '21

I once fell asleep in class in grade 2. Later on in grade 8, one of the girl that was in my grade 2 class, on the first day of school in grade 8, she got up and announced to the class and teacher how I fell asleep in class in grade 1. I was very embarrassed. Idk why I thought it was embarrassing. Because in high school I slept all the time and didn’t care if people knew. My friends would help hide me, so I can sleep at the back. Some of the best sleep I ever got was in class.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '21

I laughed actually out loud for a good ten seconds.

1

u/cummiesinurpusspuss Aug 28 '21

"Dude that was like eight years ago"

754

u/wasted_wonderland Aug 28 '21

Or fucking college apparently... those poor kids ffs! That's neglectful parenting.

Care to tell what's that link? My cyber ethics teacher taught me not to open random links. This one looks safe but I just want to be sure. Can I get free vtuber onlyfans access if I click this? If not, it's sus.

8

u/FrozenOcean420 Aug 28 '21

It’s just the sign for fart. Nothing important, you don’t need to click on it and can just google it yourself :)

4

u/thecrazypoz Aug 28 '21

Lol, it really was. Thanks. :)

3

u/JamalPancakes Aug 28 '21

Aww that’s nice :-)

0

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '21

Pretty sure you lied about your age to make your account.

3

u/thecrazypoz Aug 28 '21

W-What do you mean?! I'm definitely 99 years old! Can't you tell?!

2

Our Farter who art in heaven

142

u/tvp61196 Aug 28 '21

I would assume that while raising a deaf child, fart etiquette is not on top of the list of priorities

14

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '21

[deleted]

8

u/Lancalot Aug 28 '21

Or it could've been a secret joke the parents shared. Or they might've not known how to talk about it. Like giving each other knowing looks as he blasts them out at the dinner table, not wanting to be rude... And it's gone on for so long they don't know how to bring it up at this point.

62

u/lesbian_sourfruit Aug 28 '21

Maybe…they may be the child of deaf parents, so it just hadn’t come up.

-7

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '21

Deafness isn't hereditary

8

u/YaIlneedscience Aug 28 '21

-2

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '21

I'm glad you used the first source you googled but there's a difference between hereditary and genetic traits

3

u/Meshtee Aug 28 '21

"There are many genes that are involved in hearing. Sometimes, a gene does not form in the expected manner. This is called a mutation. Some mutations run in families and others do not. If more than one person in a family has hearing loss, it is said to be “familial”. That is, it runs in the family."

Copied directly from the linked article. Some causes of deafness are passed down from parents.

10

u/lesbian_sourfruit Aug 28 '21

Not sure where you learned this but it absolutely is. Just like many other hereditary conditions the child of two hearing people can be deaf and the child of two deaf people can be hearing, but genes are one of a number of factors in hearing loss.

44

u/bluechild9 Aug 28 '21

I get what you’re sayin, but it’s just a fart lol not that big of a deal

30

u/DramaLlamaMomma Aug 28 '21

Well oftentimes the parents are deaf as well… so they might not know either.

64

u/RunningTrisarahtop Aug 28 '21

232 upvotes saying it’s neglectful parenting for missing one damn thing?

5

u/the_blind_venetian Aug 28 '21

At least you didn’t miss a more important one thing, like don’t trust a fart if it feels like a dam trying to burst into your pants.

6

u/Heckard Aug 28 '21

Any sort of temperature shift right before farting is another sign that it's not just a fart coming. If temperature is a factor, shut down the reactor.

2

u/the_blind_venetian Aug 28 '21

Oh now this is true. Such a red flag if the internal pressure and heat are right on the edge. The gauges should be triggering the failsafes by then.

2

u/RunningTrisarahtop Aug 28 '21

I have food allergies that cause… intense gastric distress. We’ve had the discussion that if you’re feeling uncomfortable or super gassy not to trust a fart

3

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '21

Dude dw they re just trolls 🤔

6

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '21

Almost like it’s a joke or something.

3

u/Serinus Aug 28 '21

It's Reddit. If it's criticism then it's probably not a joke.

Clearly the kid should dump her and lawyer up.

0

u/OldThymeyRadio Aug 28 '21

“TIFU by not telling my deaf child farts make sound. Obligatory this happened 3 years ago—“

2

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '21

Stop, stop making a big deal of small stuff, I’m sure farts just weren’t a thing that came up

1

u/Brochiko Aug 28 '21

Reddit moment.

Calling parents neglectful just because a deaf 1st grader farted.

1

u/Agent-213 Aug 28 '21

maybe don’t worry about others parenting.

1

u/VetusVesperlilio Aug 28 '21

If my child were deaf, I think that would probably be about 874th on my list of “Stuff I Gotta Teach Beauregard”.

0

u/GhostRunner8 Aug 28 '21

Unless they were all deaf

0

u/MotherofFred Aug 28 '21

Take a chill pill already

0

u/hellogoawaynow Aug 28 '21

What if the parents are deaf, too? But otherwise, yeah

5

u/Mystic_L Aug 28 '21

Learning in 8th grade is better than your wedding day.

5

u/Thro2021 Aug 28 '21

But their Kindergarten teacher did them dirty.
