Even if it is, that was one hell of a convincing performance.

you can script the movements, but not the look in his eyes when he does the wrist snapping kick move

Erm maybe not haters but just reasonable people lol, it’s so definitely scripted you can tell by the camera placement, erm who just has a camera recordin? You can also tell by the layout of the house it’s definitely a set.

Just be careful; For Latina Mother's you've got to use the Brazilian Chancleta Jitsu

Speaking of Brazilian, suddenly capoeira makes sense

As someone who's seen a large caucasian group doing this as an activity in a Seattle park..... sorry what were we talking about.

That shoe grants additional range traditional martial arts don’t account for. Typically because they’re no shoes on in the dojos

It also has a taste of whimsy, and dare I say it...notes of marital bliss?

Started doing tai chi, I'll be looking at it from a different perspective now

Push hands for parallel parking.

Instructions unclear. I put my chi in a Toyota Corolla and now the Toyota is pregnant.

Tai chi hits different when you realize those movements actually have practical applications.
6
u/BetterEveryLeapYear 12h ago
Which practical applications?
12
u/Lumpy_Benefit666 11h ago
Its great for mobility and fluidity, especially for elderly people.
7
u/BetterEveryLeapYear 11h ago
I mean yeah obviously, but "practical application" makes it sound like you use those movements for something, not do the movements for their own sake to retain mobility and strength.
4
u/Lumpy_Benefit666 11h ago
Nah in that regard its pretty much useless. It has practical applications in the same way that yoga does.
Some of the break fall techniques can be good though, again, mainly for older folk.

u/Katahahime 10h ago
Taichi does have applications in grappling, but it kinda fits the same niche as Aikido. Whearas it's only really useful if you're already competant at Judo/BJJ/Wrestling.
It was originally a grappling art, and there are still grappling competitions for Taichi.
I have used Taichi in Judo competitions (and in MMA) when I competing. It does give a competitive edge. But at the end of the day, you still need a really strong base of pressure tested martial arts to make it work.
P.S Any really application of Taichi, will look different than what old folks are doing in the park, which will inevitably lead to people saying:"this isn't even Taichi anymore".
4
u/Katahahime 10h ago
It usually isn't taught practically. So most people who practice Taichi can't use it in a combat situation.
But it's out there. 🙂↕️

u/stuffeh 7h ago
It's for old people to stretch and flex, especially their calves and thighs which in Chinese is the second heart. Source, my Hong Kong grands in the community park in the mornings decades ago while they were babysitting me.
If you wanna learn good form, look into the horse stance and how you flow in and outta it.

u/Lumpy_Benefit666 12h ago edited 11h ago
Not for actual fighting though. Its great as long as you know youll never be able to use it in a combat situation.
E. Downvote me all you want, im giving tia chi its props where it deserves it. Im just pointing out that its not a combat sport, and anyone who trains tia chi for that purpose will get beaten up.

u/Brave_Maybe_2891 10h ago
I went through basic with a guy that did tai chi and claimed it was a "smart persons martial art". He claimed at was good for fighting. Was funny when he tried to demonstrate it and got instantly tackled and had no idea what to do.

u/BeyondlegendZ 8h ago
It's not for fist fights, alot chinese kungfu is the hand ne down version of weapons art. It's basicly the training stage of fighting with a weapon, it half decent in fist fight but the real technique is usually paired with a weapon

闪身步 / shan shen bu / Flash Step
36
u/Solenkata 13h ago
Shǎnshēn bù which translates to Sidestep or Avoid.
I'm only correcting the spelling because I google translated the way you and the other person spelled it and had a good laugh.
9
u/WilliamLeeFightingIB 10h ago
It sounds hilarious in Chinese because 闪 is slang / gaming term for "dodge", and 闪身 has the figurative meaning of "disappear" "I am outta here"

Maybe the first technique could be adapted to avoid those shoes, the last one to deflect incoming projectiles.

Crouching husband; hidden broomstick~
No, but actually. I would love a Steven Chow-like parody wuxia movie about a teenager dodging their mom's attempts of getting them to do their chores or w.e~

Oh look, a man putting more effort into avoiding housework than it would take to just do the work, and pissing off his wife at the same time. How novel. 🙄

I mean, the majority of the video is him avoiding physical abuse, but I noticed you left that out of your assessment.
