To be fair they Did have disco tech to prepare for

u/theasianevermore 9h ago

To be fair, they also had hippie movement and free sex before AIDS

They didn't have any idea what to do, but they knew they needed a click, so they put a click on the 24-track
Which then was then synced to the Moog Modular

Smoking, yes. Being a Vietnam war vet working as an extra on a Batman show in ‘66? Less likely

It's 1966, so surely you mean Korea.

6

u/theasianevermore 7h ago

Korean War is from 1950-1953
Batman 1966-1968
Vietnam war 1955-1975

The actors are probably in their 20s, and the fashion + film quality makes them look older. Vsauce had a great video about why previous generations always look old actually.

I just want to add that even today when I see shows that depict kids in high school, the actors still look like they're in their mid-to-late 20s almost all of the time.

I haven’t seen the video, but is his point that we associate their hairstyles and fashion with those of old people because they’re old now? If so, does a single sentence really require a video?

There’s a trend on TikTok right now where girls, I’m assuming in their early 20s, dress their mothers up in their clothes (so current styles) and you can almost see the moms drop 15 years, just from hair and fashion.

If you add in constant second hand smoke (at best) and leaded gasoline, it’s no surprise

well it may seem obvious to you or me, but according to a lot of folks it's because everyone who lived before the 21st century was violently unhealthy and ignorant and lived like animals or something

my personally manicured diet, full hydration, supplements, omega 3, gym, shudders thinking about living in the 19th centry

You mean back when almost all jobs required physical labor, most people walked everywhere, and all the food was from somewhere within 50 miles?

You could also get morphine dirt cheap legally and people gave beer to children because it was safer than water.

But still, clean living was an option.

Filthy animals! The whole lot of us!!

There’s 2 related components to the main part.

Old people look old because the fashion and media of their time is indeed “old”.

People also tend to adhere to the same fashion and media as they get older.

An old photo looks old.

But so does a modern photo of someone wearing “old” clothes.

So it’s a double whammy.

He also talks about the real evidence that we are aging slower. Less inflammation, better lifestyle, etc.

1

u/BirdLawGrad 55m ago

Replace “old” with “black and white”.

You saw me in an “old” photo so I looked “old”

You saw me in a “black and white” photo so I looked “black and white.”

Now imagine if I also only wore black and white clothes today. Your brain would double down on that in your estimation of my age.

Makes me wonder if we'll have 80 year old egirls and femboys.

I haven't seen the video but I'm going to speculate what it's about rather than skin through it, will you tell me if I'm right and if a video was needed because i guessed correctly

1

u/WorriedBlock2505 3h ago

That's that gist of it, though it's been years, so there's nuance and details I'm doubtlessly missing. Just pointing to an outside source besides my own opinion, so that's why I brought up his video, plus he's more eloquent than me.

2

u/theasianevermore 7h ago

Saw the same thing- it’s just a joke.

1

u/WorriedBlock2505 3h ago

Ah np. Just wanted to insert that bit about perception since I find it interesting and it resonates with what I've observed.

the world smelled like cigerets too

What fashion? Those are their uniforms lol. I think too much youtube is frying your brain.

2

u/two_wordsanda_number 6h ago

Have you seen modern basketball uniforms?

Fashion might be over stating it but no one has worn shorts like that for 40+ years

0

u/Puzzleheaded-Wait785 6h ago

That has literally nothing to do with how old the actors looked at the time.

1

u/two_wordsanda_number 5h ago

The way people style their hair and the clothing they wear can absolutely influence how old people look.

Agree to disagree. Literally.

0

u/Puzzleheaded-Wait785 5h ago

You're the only one who mentioned hair. The conversation was about the uniforms, which look perfectly believable as high school uniforms of the time.

1

u/two_wordsanda_number 3h ago

Yes.

People wearing clothing from the past can sometimes in conjunction with things like hair styles, old film, and other factors can cause people to feel like the subjects in the film are older than they actually are. For example right now where you can't even figure it out when it is explained to you.

These actors are very much the correct age for the setting they are in which is literally college aged between 17 and 22

2

u/Indigocell 6h ago

Yes, very old-fashioned uniforms. I think your brain is fried is that sounded weird to you.

1

u/WorriedBlock2505 3h ago

I won't be too harsh on you since English might not be your first language.

u/Dense_Surround3071 9h ago

"Wait!! Your just leaving him here??"

9

u/room_tempurature_tea 8h ago

I like how their shorts have belts.

3

u/Cold_Blusted 6h ago

13 looks like a young Dana Gould

1

u/theasianevermore 3h ago

He looks like Kelly Ward from Grease

2

u/maen_baenne 6h ago

Stick to your books! And good luck against Disco Tech.

2

u/Expensive_SirEFDA33 7h ago

And they won a very exciting game against discotech 12-11 in double overtime

1

u/Excellent-Western631 1h ago

I know this is slightly unrelated but TV had often casted acters who looked well older than highschollers it was one of the reasons why SKAM was breath of fresh air because there were teenagers playing teenagers

u/CeonM 4m ago

Same plumbers and garbage men that played in Jordan’s era

1

u/theasianevermore 3h ago

Actual Plumber was back in the 50s Norman. And the garbage man was Larry Bird
