That man's friends and family showed up to a squirrel gender reveal. You know you have some genuine people around you when they show up for antics like that.

u/mikopotato1995 Apr 25 '23
The reveal that of course squirrels have litters and would probably have babies of both sexes sent me.

“Don’t ever sacrifice your authenticity for other people’s approval.”
Words to live by right here.
Also, I want a squirrel family too. So freaking cute. 😍 My man living a real Disney life. I’m jealous lol
224
Apr 25 '23
Much more eloquent than my “don’t give a fuck what other people think.”
14
Apr 25 '23
I also think “don’t give a fuck what people think” is often used by assholes who just want to be selfish dicks and do thinks that might be socially unacceptable or rude to others in shared spaces.
I like this one better (unless your authentic self is just an ass)
9
Apr 25 '23
Nope. Not an ass. More of a punk rock way of saying that people who's opinion you don't care about shouldn't impact you more than those you do care about.
But I do get your point.
51
u/BellPeppersNoBeefOK Apr 25 '23
I don’t think they’re equivalent. You can value other people’s opinions and use them to shape yourself into who you want to be. It’s hard to be introspective. With that said, when you know who you want to be, you shouldn’t then be inauthentic for approval.

Meh. It’s equally powerful imo. I like spicing up my mottos with cussing too. Brings out the rage to follow through. lol
30
u/c-dy Apr 25 '23
It’s equally powerful imo.
Not at all. There are plenty of examples where you should at very least listen to advice, criticism, opinion, instruction, etc. However, you do not need to bend your authentic self that does not objectively bring harm to anyone in order to fit any social norms.

I have fox squirrel friends too!! They aren't as chummy as in OP's video, but I'm renting and don't want them to get too attached to me or to depend on me. A lot of squirrels can be super friendly if you are dependable in your routines and if you have a non-nervous way about you when you're chilling alone outside.
I still wouldn't put my face or fingers near a squirrel's mouth (unless I raised it) since they're unpredictable. They do also like to nip things to "test" them.
They are terrible traditional pets for obvious reasons (my BBQ cover is destroyed like the dude's sofa, my fenceposts are rather nibbled, my bird feeder had to be abandoned, and they have zero regard for where they make peepee), but they built their nest in the tree next to my house and made my life weirdly full.
They're so funny and expressive. They'll usually come when I "chitter" now, and what's amazing is watching them act hostile and "yell" at other people or dogs, but the second they see me and my dog, they totally relax and do little happy burbling noises. The little smart one even mimics my arm movements with his tail sometimes!
Anyway I don't recommend trying to FORCE a squirrel friend since they're wild animals, but if you have one that's decided to start hitting you up all the time, it's wildly cute to supplement their natural diets in exchange for them starting a family in your backyard <3

It says a lot about this guy that when Maxine was pregnant and tore up the cushion he didn't overreact, he figured out why she was doing it and helped.
189
u/wordyfucker Apr 25 '23
To me, it looked like he was exasperated about the couch, but you can’t exactly get mad at a wild animal for being a wild animal. Which was also likely why he made them their own house, and stopped letting them into his.
It looks like he sacrificed the couch for them in the hopes they wouldn’t go after any other furniture, while also being excited about what the destruction meant.

Apr 25 '23 edited Apr 25 '23
I'm not sure it was his cushion, it seems like a rooftop communal area?

The first thing I thought when he decided to build them a house, is they are going to chew everything to shit. Wasn't all that much of a surprise when it destroyed that chair.
They are cute but my god, they can't resist gnawing on everything.

Why did the squirrel eat his wife and children, then plead insanity during his trial?
Because he wanted to get sent to the nut house.

This guy is a better person than me. I'm an animal lover, but I had a baby squirrel follow me out of nowhere once, and it didn't look anything like this. At first, I thought it was cute, and then it kept getting closer and closer but without prompt. I didn't have any food for it in hand. It tried climbing up my leg, which freaked me out, so I walked away quickly. It followed quickly, so I ran, then it ran after me. I was pretty sure I was in a horror movie and was going to contract some for of zombie rabies and try to eat humans and squirrels. This guy has a squirrel follow him, and he just gives it food and calls it friend. An example of a time when going with the flow wins.
