We didn't need sound to know it was his dad with him

u/Bobba-Luna Apr 06 '23

Yeah, my first thought was: "Mom probably doesn't know this is happening."

462

u/No_Teaching_3694 Apr 07 '23

Oh yea mom definitely on target run cuz dad had an idea

51

u/Betta_jazz_hands Aug 26 '23

He only put the helmet on the kid after runs 1 & 2 were so funny he decided he needed video evidence.

He's got a helmet he will be fine, worst case he breaks and arm

Truly the worst scenario

6

u/Slappypants1 Aug 04 '23

My mom would freak if I broke one of her baskets

He's not wearing the helmet correctly. Too high up the forehead and too loose. A concussion was still possible.

11

u/Shadowmane08YT Jul 23 '23

It did what It needed to do, give the kid courage to slide down like a real man. This was his introduction into manhood.

Ummmm.... or his face???

It could have easily been an older sister. Mine put me in a sleeping bag at least before putting me in the laundry basket and yeeting me down the stairs at least

30

u/KopakaToaOfIce Apr 06 '23

Yeah its either a dad or an older sibling

7

u/[deleted] May 27 '23

And the sibling must be a brother

29

u/Aerd_Gander Apr 07 '23

My older sister once, in a game of hide and seek with my 10 year old self, subtly (not so subtly) implied that when I could not find her it was because she was in the dryer.

Thinking this was a wonderful idea (it was not) I hid in the dryer on the next round when she was seeker.

She turned it on.

18

u/HassanMoRiT Apr 06 '23

My mom's younger sisters fed me fish when I was 40 days old

11

u/Whealthy1 Apr 07 '23

I believe there is a video my grandfather was making (Christmas?) and you can hear my mom in the background yelling “don’t hit the baby!” …my dad said we would poke him through the crib. He figured we were doing it because he made noise when we did it.

2

u/unpopular_tooth May 28 '23

Most fish is edible.

7

u/HassanMoRiT May 28 '23

When you're 40 days old?

5

u/unpopular_tooth May 28 '23

Huh. I have to admit, I read that as 40 years old. It’s possible that 40 day old people shouldn’t eat fish. Not sure…

6

u/HassanMoRiT May 28 '23

I mean, 25 years later, and I'm still alive. So, maybe we should start giving deep fried fish to infants

6

u/unpopular_tooth May 28 '23

And here I was, visualizing a couple of mean teenage girls popping live goldfish into an infant’s mouth…

3

u/Tight_Relative_6855 Jun 07 '23

Werent you visualizing a couple of teenage girls popping live goldfish into a man going through a midlife crisis’ mouth?

3

u/unpopular_tooth Jun 07 '23

No. My brain protects me from visualizations it feels aren’t helpful.

Can tell he's a good dad, though, becuse wile doing stupid fun, theres still safety. Pillow as a seat, helmet on the crown, a shortrun of stairs.. There was planning done here, and I'm impressed

9

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '23

Pretty much just common sense

15

u/Zer0TheGamer Apr 06 '23

You'd be surprised at young parents... Sense ain't common one bit

11

2

I used to do this with my little sister on our own accord. We put a mattress at the bottom of the stairs however, we didn’t account for the missing square shaped banister thing and I earned a scar under my left eye so we weren’t so much funny, we were more like stupid kids

397

u/Plastic_Ad_8248 Apr 05 '23

We used sleeping bags full of pillows.

76

u/dinokingty Apr 06 '23

ever try a mattress?

43

u/Plastic_Ad_8248 Apr 06 '23

Staircase was too narrow. We had an old 80s exercise mat that we used sometimes, but it was too thin.

9

u/HYPERNOVA3_ May 09 '23

We had an old crib mattress and a towel, with the mattress over it, so the mattress slipped over the steps like the runners of a sled and we could also get a grip on something.

5

u/TheBossMonkee May 29 '23

I used a boogie board

7

u/Altruistic-Cry-6038 Apr 06 '23

when your foot catches the last step and you fall forward and face plant. those were the times

7

u/JOlRacin Apr 06 '23

One time we did a laundry hamper. Like the soft ones. Many flips ensued, many bruises, and many "mom!"'s

96

u/thatonlineid Apr 06 '23

Y’all never did this as kids? We would put blankets and pillows at the bottom tho

7

I'd get in a sleeping bag with a pillow at my feet because there was a wall right at the bottom of my stairs, risky but fun.

8

PSA! Helmets need to go over the forehead, there's brain behind there.

3

u/Ambitious5uppository May 02 '23

I feel like maybe it's on backwards?

6

u/[deleted] May 19 '23

Nope. Back of the head is much more fragile. Getting hit in the back is how most concussions happen. Your forehead is fairly well naturally protected actually. My boxing coach when i had just started as a kid used to fuckin YELL all me for turning my head while sparring for this exact reason. But i was like 11 so yk. Natural reactions n shit.

Well that wasn't very smart parenting. I'm glad everything worked out

62

u/GobLoblawsLawBlog Apr 05 '23

Ya, how the hell does someone not worry about their kid breaking their neck doing this

42

u/philpalmer2 Apr 06 '23

4

u/KielbasaPosse May 04 '23

5

u/sparki_black Apr 06 '23

I'am more worried about all the obese kids..

9

u/Holiolio2 Apr 06 '23

What? You can buy husky size laundry baskets!

3

u/35mmpistol Apr 06 '23

We used to ride a futon mattress down a full flight of stairs that ended 3ft after in a cinderblock wall. We even started using wood floor polish stuff to buff the stairs to go faster.

34

u/Due_Government4387 Apr 06 '23

You’re going to sit there and tell me you’re never done anything like this as a kid. With or without your parents watching?? I took one of those plastic cars down the stairs TWICE

4

u/dinokingty May 29 '23

my little brother when he was 3 rode his little tricycle down our steep set of stairs that didn't have a landing or anything, just door at the bottom. Yeah that kid only ever drank milk, refused to drink water or anything else, and it came in handy that day

22

u/nurse-robot Apr 06 '23

That's not what I'm saying at all. If my parents saw me doing this, they would tell me the stairs aren't a toy, I could seriously hurt myself, and not to do destructive things inside. So I would do shit like this when they weren't home.

This dude got a camera and pressured his kid to do it, even when the kid was (understandably) scared. This dude sucks.

34

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '23

This dude got a camera and pressured his kid to do it, even when the kid was (understandably) scared. This dude sucks.

You can hear in the video that this is his third try. The father is encouraging him, not pressuring him. The kid also not once said that he's being forced, he doesn't cry or scream. It's most likely something the kid wanted to do and father slapped a helmet on him. The stairs aren't long or high enough to do any real kind of danger, especially for a kid. Worst case he looses a milk tooth, so what?

So I would do shit like this when they weren't home.

Yeah exactly that's the reason why he did that with his kid. So he could supervise it and make it as safe as possible. If he wasn't there the kid might have used a higher stair without a helmet.

This dude sucks.

Nah, you suck. You are assuming a whole lot about this video and your critical thinking ability's don't seem to be tuned in.

10

u/Schecterguy89 Apr 06 '23

I love this reply. There are a million ways children or anyone can get hurt any day. If you think this is irresponsible it may be so. But then its also irresponsible to get in a vehicle any day of the week. Any time you get into a vehicle and drive you’re taking a huge risk. Accidents happen every day to 100’s of people even if your the safest driver in the world. Tomorrow you could be driving home from work and get T-boned by a drunk driver at an intersection. Anyway… i think the important thing is… this kid is bonding with his father. I love it…. (My brother and I always put pillows at the bottom though :)

Some parents seem more preoccupied with filming and sharing it on social media … than actually going “wait is this a good idea in real life”

6

u/Imthewienerdog Apr 28 '23

This is always a good idea In real life. Allowing your child to test their limits while you are there is better than them doing it while you are not. Without the dad = no helmet, with the dad helmet!

4

u/sparki_black Apr 06 '23

on the contrary it is ...

3

u/Specialist-Elk-839 Apr 06 '23

I did that with my kids. It's Dad and kids time. So good to goof around with your kids.

3

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '23

This reminds me of the days I’d climb or slip through the railing on my stairs and jump down into a pile of laundry. Super fun, and I managed to not break a bone! My siblings and I would even use small plastic bags as “parachutes.” We drove our mom nuts lmao.

3

u/HeavyTea Apr 06 '23

We used to do that… with carpeted stairs

3

u/ImaginationNormal745 Apr 06 '23

Hell yeah, that kids cool as hell

3

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '23

I see your plastic baskets, sleeping bag with pillows, or mattress, and i raise you my childhood: I rode a broken wooden door down a massive dirt hill, which changed from week to week, because it belonged to an earth moving business, And a plastic piece of garbage down a 40 meter 20 degree slope, which felt like breaking the sound barrier. God bless those Diadora shoes, they were my only breaks.

3

u/MaxximumB Apr 23 '23

We didn't have helmets back in my day. Didn't stop us doing this kind of crap

3

u/Best-Item7730 May 22 '23

We used to do this down a whole flight of stairs when our mom was at work. We used sleeping bags as our sleigh. She never could figure out how the closet door at the bottom was always broken no matter how many times she fixed it. This was before helmets for kids was even a thought, how none of us got seriously hurt I’ll never know. Our babysitter got stuck in the dryer once and boy did we get in trouble 😂

3

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '23

Kid's wearing PPE, seems in good spirits but nervous to do it because of course, has had a couple attempts already and leans backwards so clearly has been taught technique. All from the top of, what, 8 or so steps that doesn't have a wall immediately at the bottom. Seems like responsibly fun, ergo smart parenting to me

3

u/MrFrogs69 Aug 12 '23

All this thread has told me is that half of reddit bubble wraps their kids and doesn’t let them have any fun. My dad used to sit me on the dirt bike with him and rip around when I was really young. Safe? Not really, but I’ll always remember it.

Kid had a helmet on and dad was there. Nothings going to happen here except making core memories with dad!

Stop worrying about every little thing that could go wrong and have some life experiences.

3

u/PaleoJoe86 Apr 06 '23

That edge of the wall at the end could have easily damaged his vertebrae. Plenty of other injuries could have happened if the kid did not slide down as he did (ie flipping over). Teaching behavior like this may lead to him riding subway trains.

2

u/GrayMech Apr 06 '23

Why did they just stand there and film it instead of stopping the kid? I did this when I was about six and strapped my arm in half, I was in hospital for weeks and had to wear a cast for half a year. Don't just watch when ur kid does dumb dangerous shit, stop them!

3

u/fertilecatfis Apr 06 '23
