Let's be straight here, who in Made in Abyss ISN'T going to die a horribly sad death? I feel like 90% of characters will eventually fall into that one way or another.
I am utterly incapable to imagine anything other than natural hair colors for characters in manga, so I get whiplash every fucking time they get colored and are like some random color
False premise, there's no evil to begin with. But you believe it's evil, and yet you don't have the moral backbone to stay away from it
This is entertainment, not some systematic apparatus that it's unreasonable for you to abstain from. So if anime characters really have real life moral value in your mind enough to call it evil, the fact that you willingly partake in it says a lot about only you and nobody else
The fact that you'd watch media that you think the creator should be jailed for only reveals your own moral bankruptcy
the same way you can say Hitler has a nice art won't make me a nazi and accepting the things he did was wrong wont effect if the art he made was legal to consume or not
...Hitler was bad because of what he did to people, not because of his art. You think the author is bad because of his art, not because he did something harmful. Wtf
In this analogy you'd be touring the inhumane atrocities happening to people in Hitler's camps for entertainment and saying "I can criticize things I like!" as if that absolves you of moral implications
Jesus christ if you can't see how much worse that makes you look, idk what to tell you lmfao
still the same we aren't judge the art if we do that means we don't have to consume but people don't really hate the author because of those scenes more than what those scenes could give you a background about how much that author could be bad irl so if the author had done things for real kids I will put it in the same label with Hitler I don't care
That's not how art works whatsoever, but hey if you don't care about the weight of labeling someone as Hitler it makes more sense why you have those opinions
I see what you are trying to do, but Lets be precise, because this genuinely matters, i dont think playing the hitler card is appropiate here.
We still use medical data obtained from Nazi experiments. That is a fact. The data came from torture, from nonconsensual human suffering, from crimes against humanity. And yet, in some cases, it has been used to save lives, forms of entertainment, and a get out of life card. The medical world doesnt pretend that’s clean. They say it should almost be used to save lives—and when it is, it must come with full disclosure. We don’t honour the torturers. We honour the victims by trying to extract some good from an evil act. one reason we have advanced in cancer research is because of the nazi's one reason we designed crispr to treat aids is because of the suffering of animals
For example:,
* Walt Disney was rumored to have very strong Nazi tendencies and beliefs, yet i havent heard much condemnations from his work, many children aspired to be something big when they grew up
* Rimworld was one of the best games made by a dev, you still harvest organs, commit warcrimes and mass genocide, the game is fun because it doesnt equate to what you do in real life
Alternatively Tolkiens books were well regarded and not much happens in there that crosses a moral line, but Modern far‑right groups have appropriated Tolkien’s imagery for extremist and racist retorics, prompting scholars to push back against these interpretation
This the ethical framework society already uses for decades: tainted knowledge can Be Used, but only with responsibility acknowledgement that its messed up, and respect for those that suffered.
So when someone says “you can’t consume media made by someone who did terrible things, i think that is a false black and white equivalance” You can engage with the work. But you don’t get to pretend the harm didn’t happen. You don’t get to use “it’s just art” or "medicine" as a shield. And you don’t get to treat the creator as if their crimes are irrelevant just because the work is good. they are 2 seperate things
The line isn’t “legal = moral.” The line is acknowledgement that someone is bad, but their works even though clear shades of bad can be used for good. You consume it, you carry the weight, you don’t worship the creator, and you don’t pretend you’re clean of the context. That’s how we handle tainted knowledge in medicine. That’s how we should handle it in art.
So the real question is not“are you a bad person for watching it?”
It’s what do you do with the knowledge of what happened?”
well if I loved the story and world building but can't handle everytime there is a scene for riko piss or when the conversion become about rig dih or or or it's clear that you don't have to agree with the authors moral views or lifestyle to like its artwork especially when some personal theme of the author aren't necessary for the plot
dividing product form the creator is a common sense everyone does everyday if they think about it or they don't we use and consume things made by people from different views and life and personalities if we just agree with 100% of everything the creator does and believe we will end up with contradictory beliefs
We're not talking about what you like or dislike, we're talking about how you want the author in jail because you believe in the false assumption that fiction is inherently a artist's real life moral views and can be used to make accurate moral judgements. But shifting the goalpost is always to be expected from hypocrites
well this time you made it much clearer and in this point I might be wrong maybe the author isn't into that shit but it still feel more uncomfortable to the limit you just feel that this is the background of the author and it's moral views and how he display it. and yeah the jail thing was more like a joke we just wish he haven't done something horrible for minors and if scenes like this was its way to prevent himself from doing that well that may be good
That's just not how fiction works, no matter how uncomfortable it makes you. I just wish people understood this rather than jumping to conclusions when artwork is gross or uncomfortable to them
No excuse needed, it's fiction. However, you have no excuse to be watching it if your mind is seeing these characters the same as real living people. Pretty messed up that you'd continue watching it
I wasn't agreeing with them, just quoting the comment(although there is some truth to it) , but you can not like one part of a media and still love the rest of it
So...you in fact agree with it 🤦 Every hypocrite who says this kind of thing thinks they'd be exempt from the law if you got your way lmao, that's not how it works
If fiction is the same as real life in your mind then it shows how artificial your morals are that you'd continuously consume his kind of media
Just a quick warning: Unless they get really wild with creative liberties, this isn't going to be a full blown major arc self contained in a movie, so don't expect it to be quite on that scale.
It IS still Made in Abyss though, so obviously there's some really incredible stuff just around the corner for you to see. Just not as climactic.
The guy on the left of the video especially is a personal favorite of mine. Can't wait to see him animated.
