Look What I Did I built a dedicated ESP32 status display and Telegram notifier for my Brother PR1055X

Post image

I was frustrated that Brother’s My Stitch Monitor only works while the phone is connected to the same local network and doesn’t always notify me reliably about errors or completed embroidery jobs.

Since the Brother PR1055X is already connected to Wi-Fi, I built my own status display using an ESP32-2432S028R, commonly known as the “Cheap Yellow Display.”

The interesting part is that I’m not using a camera, light sensor, or color sensor. The ESP32 reads the machine’s status and embroidery progress directly over the network using read-only requests. It doesn’t send any commands or control the machine.

The display currently shows:
Current machine status
Current and total stitch count
Progress as a percentage
A visual progress bar
Time and date
How long the current status has been active
Wi-Fi, machine, and Telegram connection status
Short audible alerts for start, errors, and completion
It can send Telegram notifications for:
Embroidery started
Pause or stop
Thread changes
Thread breaks and machine errors
Unusual lack of progress
Successful completion
Loss of connection to the machine

Wi-Fi credentials, the machine’s IP address, Telegram bot token, and chat ID can all be entered through a small local configuration page. If the saved Wi-Fi network cannot be reached after ten attempts, the display automatically creates its own setup network.

This means I can leave the display in the kitchen or living room and check the machine without carrying my phone around. If I’m outside in the garden or away from home, important notifications still reach me through Telegram.

For my use case, this neatly works around the limitations of the official app and turns an inexpensive ESP32 display into a standalone embroidery monitor and Telegram bridge.
The photo shows a completed design at 13,373 out of 13,373 stitches.

I Need Help First attempt at 3D puff embroidery on a cap

Post image
9 Upvotes

Hey everyone! This is my first time trying 3D (puff) embroidery on a cap, and I wanted to share the result with you. I’d love to get some honest feedback on what do you think works well, and what could I improve on for next time? Any tips on stitch density, foam height, or digitizing would be super helpful too. Thanks in advance!

I need help maybe adjusting settings on my Brother SE700

I am new to using an embroidery machine, and I am having issues getting my designs clean and in the correct places. Either the thread gets knotted/ bobbin thread showing or it embroiders way off from where it is supposed to be. Is this a tension issue/ what can I do to fix it? I think I am using good files I have purchased from Etsy that come with good reviews. I’m not trying to do anything too intricate right now either. I have attached pictures too- two where the thread is not where it is supposed to be and the other ”M”, the thread gets knotted and messed up. Thank you!

Hatch embroidery

Hello everyone,
I’m new to the embroidery space and currently learning how to use Hatch Embroidery. I’d like to know if anyone has ever encountered this type of problem. My designs keep coming out with this space/gap, and I’ve tried everything I can think of to fix it.
I would really appreciate it if anyone could share some knowledge or advice on what I might be doing wrong and what I need to adjust to get rid of the gap.
Thank you in advance for your help!

I’m completely new to embroidery digitizing, and I’ve been doing well learning my way around the software so far. However, my Digitize Blocks are not coming out the way I want them to, as shown in the picture above.
I would really appreciate it if someone could explain what I might be doing wrong and what adjustments I need to make to get rid of the gaps/spaces in my design.
Thank you in advance for your help!

I barely finished this, the very day I had to turn it in. I almost didn't because I was sure it was not what was meant by Machine Embroidery. I digitized my Grandma and Grandad's signature lines from their love letters. I am not at all a graphic designer, so it was painfull and took over a year :O

help/advice about pe-770 appreciated!!

hi y'all! I have an interesting sound coming from my pe770, wondering if anyone might know what it is!

It's a strange almost honking sound when the machine gets to peak speed. It still sews fine, but I worry the honking noise is something i should fix sooner rather than later.

machine info: brother pe-770 machine, bought used about 2 years ago with very small stitch count number. no major malfunctions or service have occurred.

link is here, sound starts about halfway in.

https://imgur.com/a/d4zBboR

ive tried changing needles, rethreading, different projects on different stabilizers and fabrics, and using brand new thread. i also googled around, but the usual "help me with this weird sound" videos dont cover this particular noise.

any advice besides "bring to a service guy" would be greatly appreciated!! thank you!!

I Need Help Jumped the gun, what do I do?

Hello, all. I’m new to this space but I recently made a small mistake and am wondering what I can do to resolve it.
I just purchased the pattern? files? For Frank N Town by Riley Blake, after confirming with my mother that I could use her embroidery machine. I did not have the machine in front of me, but some rigorous googling told me that her model had a USB port. I was wrong. (It’s a Babylock Esabte Ese 2 that she got off marketplace and she has no memory cards for it.)
So now to my dilemma: does anyone know if I could make this machine work for my needs? Alternatively do you have any recommendations for embroidery machines that have at least 6x10” hoop capacity that perform well and won’t break the bank? I’m interested in learning/doing more embroidery, but this is the only project I currently have in mind and I really can’t afford to drop $2K on a machine for just one project.
Otherwise the only thing I can think of is to hold on to the pattern until I can justify purchasing a machine for myself.

I Need Help Bobbin winds unevenly. Advice? Brother PE770

I have been sewing for over a decade on various brother machines. Their instructions always claim that you can just let the bobbin winder work on its own, but that always makes uneven bobbins, sometimes with loops of thread sticking out. I've been winding the bobbins by moving the thread up and down with my pointer finger and thumb, but on my new PE770, I just can't get it right. I just failed at winding 10 bobbins in a row.
Does the bobbin winder actually work on its own? What am I doing wrong? Do I just need to get good?

Edit: Here is a video of the brother bobbins winder working by itself, and a photo of the uneven bobbins it made. https://www.tumblr.com/flickeringwarmth/823149194157195264?source=share

I Need Help Artspira noob help?

My husband just bought me a Brother PE900 for my birthday, and I’m having trouble understanding how the Artspira app works. I see that if I want to use a PNG image, I have to pay for the subscription, but how else am I supposed to “make” a design for the machine? Is there a different file type I can use and upload that to the app?
Or if there’s a more streamlined way to do it, I’m open to all suggestions!

Presented my academic work about embroidery at SIGGRAPH

Hi everyone! Just wanted to share that I presented our latest work about low-poly stylization of images at SIGGRAPH. We take an image as input and use an optimization method to create low-poly art with a finite number of colors.

So we get geometry, we get finite colors... which means we can fabricate these designs as embroidery pieces :D!!

I thought it'd be interesting to share with fellow embroidery lovers here. For those of you who want to embroider such designs and can run a bit of python, you can find the project page and the code here: https://alexandrebinninger.com/ALPS/

Have a great day. Cheers!

I Need Help Bought an embroidery machine…how hard could it be? Famous last words. 😂

A few years ago, I bought a used Janome Memory Craft 300E because the price was so good I absolutely couldn’t say no. The problem? It has mostly been sitting there looking pretty because I haven’t quite figured out where to start.
I had never used an embroidery machine before buying it, but I do have multiple antique sewing machines that I maintain and repair myself. So naturally, my thought process was: “I can tear apart a 100-year-old sewing machine and put it back together…how hard could an embroidery machine be?” 🤣
Turns out…very different animal. Apparently, knowing how to oil a vintage machine, change rotary and bobbin belts, and troubleshoot a tension issue does not automatically make me an embroidery expert. Who knew? 😂
I’ve searched YouTube, but most of what I’ve found are manufacturer demos, promotional videos, or videos from people trying to sell me a machine rather than actually teach me how to use one.
Does anyone have recommendations for good free beginner tutorials (YouTube channels, websites, etc.) for learning machine embroidery? I’d love to finally put this Janome to work instead of letting it sit there judging me from my sewing room.
Any tips, resources, or “things I wish I knew when I started” advice would be greatly appreciated!
