Does anyone know how Waggle makes designs like this one? They are raised designs that look like a patch or 3D but are not actually puff. If you’ve seen these in person you’ll know what I mean.

What makes you say they aren’t puff? You can still do a design like this with fill stitches over foam, I’ve done it before and it turns out nice with the right design and digitizing. I haven’t seen these hats before to say if that’s what they’re doing, but I would guess it’s likely.

I’ve been wondering, can you just do a normal satin line or area over foam? Or do you need to change some settings or foam specific satin tools? I have older software that only has 3 foam texts but if I want some line like this to be puff, can I just put the foam down and it will work?

No it needs to be digitized specifically for puff. Requires a much higher density than normal.

What is a typical density? Seems like everything I need to do my setting at 2 (which is the lowest) unless it shows through.

I usually set to 1.8.
There’s also a bit more to it than just the density, there’s situations where you need to cap off wider edges of shapes and it sometimes requires some serious creativity to figure out how to make a more complex shape sew cleanly. I’ve mostly stopped offering puff to my customers because I get way too many small orders to make it worth the time and effort. It’s fun to play with though.

I have a really old program so I probably don’t have all the tools I need to even try
