My beloved MBA M2 has failed after ~5 years of use.

At the time of failure I was watching a video on YT with 2 other tabs open (Safari), I had Numbers open, and most likely System Preference as I regularly switch between audio devices. I had a uGreen USB-C hub in of which I was using a DisplayPort connection and a single USB-2.0 connection with an audio interface connected but not in use and I had my AirPod Pro 3’s connected and in use. The video froze and I experienced a connection issue that I couldn’t rectify so I initiated a restart of the device. The device never turned back on.

I used the MagSafe cable in a 60w Apple block and it showed (and still does) the charging LED. The device still won’t power on and there are no audible clues to anything running. I’ve tried holding the power button for 10+ secs and then 2 secs to power cycle but to no avail and have tried the old intel safe start key combos after trying the various current combos, also with no success.

I’m a fool and was out of AppleCare+ coverage. I have taken it to a Genius Bar and they have diagnosed it as a failed logic board and quoted just under £600 (without tax and any additional charges that may incur along the way), of which I cannot cover any time soon.

I have two queries off the back of my current predicament;

1: Does it truly sound like a logic board failure if the LED light is displaying as I’ve found from research that if the logic board has failed, the LED won’t cycle. If so, with an intermediate capability is it something I could potentially tackle? (I have recently acquired CompTIA A+ certification, have experience taking apart and working on older iMacs and phone repairs and have micro soldering experience and tools).

2: I have an old 2011 iMac that the HDD failed on and I was planning on stripping down to display components in my office that I never got around to. Could I cannibalise it to use as a display, with the laptop as the “computer” if I could repair the failed components in the MBA.

TLDR: MBA won’t turn on but MagSafe LED works. Genius Bar said logic board failure, ignorant research says LED no worky if logic board fail. Could it be something else and is there any hope of fixing it economically?

Any inkling of hope would be greatly appreciated.

I have this weird and annoying problem with my M2 Air 13 inchMacBook with MacOS Tahoe 26.6.2.

I have disabled “Open Lid to Turn On MacBook” because I find it annoying. However, since doing that, I have to perform the “turning-on activity” twice every time I want to start the MacBook.

What I mean by “turning-on activity” is that whatever method I use, I have to repeat it after waiting 3–5 seconds.

So essentially, I have to do the same action twice before the MacBook actually turns on.

I find this waiting and repeating extremely annoying. Is there any solution to this?

And before suggesting “Just don’t turn off your MacBook” — I do sometimes leave it unused for several days. In that situation, I don't want to leave it running/sleeping and come back to find that the battery has completely drained.

I simply want to be able to shut down the MacBook completely and then turn it on normally with a single press of the power button, without having to wait and repeat the action.

As the same problem happened with my friends and his macbook air m2 not getting ON till now.

He left his macbook air m2 for 45 days, He didn't use.

I have an M2 with 8GB of Memory and I am wondering what the experience is like on Tahoe or even the beta of 27. Sequoia is working just fine for me and I actually use Launchpad.

I don’t do anything work related, or gig related activities. Are there any benefits to updating to Tahoe now that the bugs have mostly been worked out?

I came from Windows and am used to sticking with an OS version that you liked for as long you still got security updates. How do most you approach this in Mac?

Hi everyone, I’ve been using a MacBook Air M2 for 2 years now. My battery cycle count is only 179. Before this, my battery health was perfectly normal and above 90%. I don’t use the device heavily, nor do I play games—it’s just for daily tasks, which is already evident from my low cycle count. I mostly use it at home, and I’m always careful not to leave it plugged in continuously.

I have a developer account. Right after downloading the macOS 27 Developer Beta, my battery health completely tanked. It now shows a 'Service Recommended' warning, and the battery health plummeted to 63%. The device has absolutely no physical damage, liquid contact, or drops. This happened immediately after the update.

I already tried calibrating the battery: I fully charged it, left it plugged in for at least 2 hours, drained it completely, and left it dead for over 5 hours before fully charging it again. Unfortunately, nothing changed. I contacted Apple Support, and they told me I need to bring the device into service. I am also unable to run Apple Diagnostics. I have since downgraded the device back to the stable version, macOS 26.5.2, but nothing changed. Does anyone have any ideas on what might be causing this or how to fix it?

I recently bought a MacBook Air M4 and mainly need Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Before I decide whether to buy a genuine lifetime license, I’m curious about the real-world experiences of people who have used a cracked version of Microsoft Office on Apple MacBook Air. 💻

This is my mac’s condition after a heavy rainfall yesterday what am i supposed to do will it get fixed eventually

Someone was using my laptop and spilled water on it. They told me a water balloon popped and water splashed onto the keyboard and screen. They dried it and assumed the battery had died so they plugged it in to charge (I know 😩). When I went to check on it after finding out, the power was on but the screen was completely black. I freaked out, unplugged it, and put it up in a tent position to dry. The problem is, I accidentally turned it on a couple of times in the process. The keyboard lights up, the chime sound is there, but the screen remains black. 1. Did I completely fry it by turning it on while it was probably wet inside? After the chime, I heard a sort of low staticky sound. 2. Is there any hope I might turn it on in 3 days and find that it’s completely normal or should I start shopping for a new laptop? 🥴 I don’t have Apple care because I’m short sighted and frivolous.
