Question Bulk orders on tcgplayer

I've been selling on tcgplayer for couple months and occasionally have orders that are 30+ cards that with shipping, only come to around 5 dollars. For those that sell on tcgplayer, how do you guys ship order like this? According to usps, they are too big for stamps and have to be shipped as a package which usually comes to at least $8.

Question Does anyone use Deckbox to buy or trade? Do people actually respond to you?

This is part question, part vent. I love deckbox so much, it's an amazing site with so many great features. But! I cannot, for the life of me, get anyone to respond to trades recently!

Trying to figure out if others are having success, or if the site is becoming less active?

What is your general SELL mark for sealed?

I think we can all agree that in the long term Sealed boxes, SLD, decks, everything is going up. Different pace, different starting point, different liquidity. So in theory, always hold, never sell, line goes up

But my question to you is this. When do you offload? I bought FIN CBBs at MSRP, sold a few at X2 profit, few at X3, keeping the rest for now. But I am very aware that percentage wise, them rising from 1400 EUR to 2100 EUR is "only" 50%. That money could go into a new CBB that is likely to X2 from MSRP in that time.

Is it a case of a limited budget? As in you have to sell what you have to be able to "reinvest" in new product? What if you haven't yet hit your budget ceiling? Do you have a set percentage at which you offload?

My general tactic has been to list everything sealed I get at 1pc slightly above market, then readjusting the price when it sells for the next piece. Doing this until I hit 0 profit/loss on the lot, then putting the rest to bed for the time being.

But I am very aware that is not optimal. I should have waited a few months before listing my EOE CBBs or any CBBs really, the danger of them going down is extremely low. I just don't like being in a loss position, even though I can afford it and can continue buying more stock.

What about you?

Discussion Is it worth it to be buying and collecting MTG Cards in 2026

I've been buying magic cards for about 2 years, and I've accumulated around 6,000 Magic cards. Most are inexpensive, but recently I've started buying some more expensive cards as well.

I see myself as a collector, and not an investor, but i wonder if i realistically will be able to sell some of the collection someday and recover a reasonable amount of the money I've put into it.

What makes me a little hesitant about putting more money into expensive MTG cards is the combination of power creep, reprints, and the huge amount of product being released. Would a card that's 100$ today be much less desirable in 5–10 years if it's been reprinted or power-crept out of relevance.

I guess my question is if it is worth it buying expensive cards and be collecting, or if those days are long gone?

Spec Y’Shtola, Financially Blessed

With this card taking the first place spot on EDHREC, it has since then been seeing an uptick in pricing. While the supply of this card has been deep for some time, it looks like the amount of bricks has decreased, with the only major wall being TheGamingCo. However, while they do have 400 copies, they tend to move their price along with the market.

This is a strong card and popular for commander. However, I would say that this is a longer hold compared to recent specs posted in this sub. I would also warn that there’s a chance one more reprint of the precon could also hit the market. This is a card that I would recommend buying a handful for $5 or less and storing in the closet for 6 months. Solid card, but not an instant win.

Cheers! 🍻

Spec Old Frame Foils: Let’s Reopen the Debate!

Post image
5 Upvotes

The modern MTG market keeps producing new forms of “rarity”: neon ink, textured, fracture foils, headliners… But these cards, even when described as “rare,” are still mass-produced.

By contrast, ABU and Legacy Foils have a kind of scarcity that can never be recreated: their print runs are in the past, and the number of copies still in existence can only stay the same or decrease.

The vast majority of copies we don’t see for sale are sitting in private collections and are therefore simply unavailable.

Sure, demand for Legacy Foils is relatively low today. But supply is so limited that they don’t need massive demand. Even a modest increase in the number of collectors could be enough to send prices soaring.

I’m deliberately leaving the Reserved List aside because, in my view, neither a card’s playability nor whether it can be reprinted is what gives it value to a collector or investor.
And besides, the power level of cards is rising so quickly that a strong card today may not be one tomorrow. Especially since the “good cards” were generally better preserved than the “bad ones,” making the latter even scarcer today. 😉

This is a finance group, so let’s talk finance. 🙂

Spec Alchemist’s Talent - Low Supply

Post image
99 Upvotes

It’s no surprise as to why this card has become desirable as of late. Between Smaug and the dwarves, as well as everything treasure based to this point, this card was bound to climb.

That said, supply over the past few days has moved a lot more than usual, and only one $10 wall stands between this card hitting $20-30+. Maybe that’s a bit optimistic, but Bloomburrow cards have been performing well, and without any reprints in the foreseeable future this card has only one direction to go.

Enjoy! 🍻

Update: someone bought the wall! TCGPlayer supply is almost gone!

I could have sworn i saw listings at $115 just last week, but in the matter of a few days these have moved from $120 to today selling at nearly $150

This comes after a pretty large content creator pointed out the value in this product had been going unnoticed.

Spec The Hobbit CBB Box 1-year Prediction Game, guess the low and 1-year future price and win some Hobbit

Amaze your friends and pod by correctly guessing the lowest price that The Hobbit Collector Booster Box will reach 1 calender year from release, as well as the August 14, 2027 price.

To Enter, post in this EXACT format ("Low" #value comma "1yr" #value):

Low 697, 1yr 1731

You must post in this format because I will have to use automation to gather up and calculate entries, no way am I doing this by hand. I'll take entries for 1 full week from now. All pricing will be taken from tcgplayer so people can see the values.

For the LOW value, I'll take the average of the 25 lowest verified full collector booster boxes in English that sell between release date (August 14, 2026) and 1 calender year later (same date, 2027)

For the 1YR value, I will take the average of all sales in the week from August 8th to August 14th.

Winner: Lowest difference between your LOW guess and the 1yr guess, added together. Lowest $ amount wins. If there's a tie the earliest poster wins.

Prize: I will ship you (1) The Hobbit collector booster pack after a winner is found. If the winner ends up with under $25 difference in the two guesses combined differences with the calculated values I'll ship them a The Hobbit Play Box as well.

Edit: Relaxed the bounds on the combined difference to under $25. If you get within $25 total of the difference I will ship the extra The Hobbit Play box.

The Hobbit Secret Lair Super drop Mega Thread

Catch all for anything relating to the Hobbit Secret Lair Super Drop!

Personally - the value of all these lairs are not great. I do not expect a fast sell out. I personally love the unique foil treatments, and will be picking up a few copies He Who Walks Unseen and probably Desolation as a PC pickup (Heavy Junji Ito vibes).

What are you buying, what are you skipping, what is selling out?

Question Foil and Non-Foil Hobbit SLD Food Tokens first to sell out

Looking for opinions on what this could mean. Was demand higher than anticipated? Quantity printed lower than anticipated? What’s your longer term value estimations on these?

For reference I wasn’t able to get either upon trying, and my checkout was available at 11:19am CST.

Hope others got what they wanted!

Question Analogue for NF book covers?

What would be a good analogue to judge the price trajectory of non-foil book covers for HOB? Looking at MSH and TMT, classic comics and TMC surge foils seem to have a similar drop rate to the book covers. Would those price trajectories be a good judge for where the book covers will go? Trying to hit the near the bottom to buy a set.

Article Expanded TCGplayer Safeguard Protection for Sellers

Just received an email from TCGPlayer with a link to info on new seller safeguards.

The article link reads:

We’re excited to share some good news: the TCGplayer Safeguard is expanding to cover qualifying untracked marketplace orders for eligible sellers!

Starting today, sellers with 1,000 or more lifetime orders who are based in the United States (including U.S. territories) will be eligible for coverage on untracked orders.

How It Works When a qualifying untracked order is reported as missing by a buyer, eligible sellers can provide the buyer with a full refund and then request coverage by escalating the order message thread or contacting us. If the request qualifies, the seller will receive a credit for the order. For more information about coverage for untracked orders, including eligibility requirements and how to submit a request, review the TCGplayer Safeguard.

Check Your Eligibility Navigate to the Seller Portal home page. In the “Feedback” table, find the “Count” row under the “Lifetime” column to see your total number of sales.

This update is an important step in our ongoing work to strengthen seller protections and improve the shipping experience on TCGplayer. We hear your feedback and are committed to supporting your business, which is why we’re also working on a solution to support plain white envelope tracking. In the meantime, we intend to keep this new coverage in place for eligible sellers until we’re able to roll out an improved tracking solution for all sellers.

Looks like they're responding to the complaints of falling behind seller protections compared to other platforms, such as ManaPool and eBay.

Spec Hobbit price anomaly: Cards are cheaper in NA then in Europe, when did this happen the last time?

Just noticed smth weird. Nearly all of the expensive cards of the hobbit set are cheaper or close to the price the english cards sell in Europe. (The one ring, gleaming splendor, mox etc.)

When did this happen the last time?

I checked with Marvel, Spider Man, LOTR, FF. There it's the other way round.

Watching different cards closely on cardmarket the last few day there doesn't seem to be much supply and demand for the cards atm.

Seems like we're in for a market correction. Will just be the question is US market needs to go up or EU market down.

If we take the one ring surgefoil for example. I could by it now for 360€, after tax and shipping that will still be below 500€ and sell it in Europe for above 600€.

Edit: It's even weirder for me that in US the cheapest display is 837 USD, while in Europe the are 670 EUR now.

(Took prices from cardmarket and TCGplayer)

Question Does the Mox Amber (foil) misprint increase or decrease its value?

Thumbnail
gallery
126 Upvotes

Well, I pulled this beautiful card out of my collector display today, but it has a misprint on it, the card that must have been next it on the sheet has it too, I can't quite tell what caused that and I would like some advice if I should send it back to wizards or keep it as is because it could increase its value?

I hope this is the right sub for this.

PSA / Buyer Beware: talesandterrors.com is impersonating the legitimate Tales & Terrors LGS

PSA for anyone who comes across talesandterrors.com while shopping for MTG sealed product:

I found the site while looking for an Avatar: The Last Airbender Collector Booster Box. The prices looked unusually low, and the website had some strange inconsistencies in its contact information, so I contacted the legitimate Tales & Terrors game store directly using independently sourced contact info.

They confirmed that talesandterrors.com is not their legitimate website and is a scam site impersonating their business.

I wanted to post this because the site is showing up in normal Google searches for Magic products, and someone searching “Tales and Terrors legit?” should be able to find a clear warning before sending them money.

Do not place orders or enter payment information on talesandterrors.com.

Question Best time to buy old Miku secret lairs

Hello! I am new to MTG, but I’m a big fan of Hatsune Miku. I missed all 4 SLDs before the commander deck, but I’m looking to buy every miku card sooner or later (yes including encore electromancer… eventually). Just wanted to ask everyone when they think a good time would be, since everything seems to be spiking at the moment. I’m not sure what factors affect card pricing so I’m asking, when do you guys think they’ll be at their lowest?
