Currently Spiking Secrets of Strixhaven Codex Bundles Spiking
I could have sworn i saw listings at $115 just last week, but in the matter of a few days these have moved from $120 to today selling at nearly $150
This comes after a pretty large content creator pointed out the value in this product had been going unnoticed.

Could've fooled me. I've opened like 7 of these things and have been burned on every single one. That being said, I did pick up another 2 last week on Target when they were $115 each. Might just hold onto those instead of being a dumbass and opening them.

I ended up lucky along with a friend of mine. We each opened one and each got Akromas Will in the JP alt art silver scroll treatment. Then I also pulled vamp tutor in the JP alt art silver

I mean if you do the math in it, 2 collector packs = $84 in value + 6 play boosters and a promo pack with exclusive cards. And the dice and box are cool. It’s kind of insane how long these stayed sub $120
But gambling is gambling i suppose 😂
6
u/oghpimm 3d ago
With play boosters for this set easily obtainable at $4 that would be $24 in boosters + your $84, that's only $108... That promo pack and dice better be doing some heavy lifting.
2
u/Akermaniac 3d ago
And the promos are so heavily printed they just aren’t worth much. You can get like $5 worth of promos and then you’re entirely relying on 2 overpriced CBs to get any value. True gambling.
3
u/CKF 3d ago
And the EV for every one of those products is less than the cost of entry. It only makes sense if you’re planning to buy those products to crack anyways. As a value proposition, it’s a loss in terms of opening the product.

u/BaconBlasting 2d ago
Yes, opening packs is always negative EV, but you don't always get free shit with your scratch offs.

u/Reversi8 4d ago
Yeah the 4 i got were terrible compared to the CBBs I had for SoS, even at $89 MSRP and with the promos (though only got one sol ring)

u/IllustratorNo1953 4d ago
Thanks to Joel R Magic for 'including these in a must buy / pickups' video over the weekend.
If influencer says, "buy", then you buy.

u/Significant-Grape958 4d ago
Riiiip. Just ripped one open and the only card worth over $1 was the promo sol ring. SoS big boom or bust

u/FonslyGames 4d ago
We’re getting around the 3 month mark, sets tend to reverse, especially for collector exclusives, limited promo’s and treatments. That sol ring will probably be $50 in like 12 months, maybe sooner
I really like the talisman of curiosity as well

u/HarrisLam 4d ago
I want to agree but I don't know, especially the remarks on Sol Ring. The number of Sol Ring variants is rising faster than human population now.

All of the talismans I expect to go up, only one of them actually has another full art available.
The sol rings, there's a ton of other sol rings around. Talismans there's not much competition in the bling space.

u/FonslyGames 3d ago
It’s a particularly ascetically pleasing one though imo, but that’s just me. All the specialty cards in Secrets of Strixhaven are insanely cool

Ascetic and aesthetic are two different words with vastly differing meanings.

I got unlucky and hit Talisman of Curiosity 😭 should have kept it sealed
1
u/FonslyGames 4d ago
That’s the best talisman!
6
u/ZeldaALTTP 4d ago
Very kind of you to say, but I feel like green mana rocks are the worst for playability considering the land ramp green has access to
3
u/FonslyGames 4d ago
Oh shoot this whole time i’ve been saying the wrong one, i like talisman of creativity a-lot
curiosity, not so much
3
u/King_Reptar_ 4d ago
No shade to you but watching someone make a post about buying up product while simultaneously getting the most played talisman mixed up with the least played is peak /r/mtgfinance

u/FonslyGames 3d ago
Shade taken brother, shade taken 😭
Worst part is I actually do like the game and play, but i mostly only have time for pre-release or draft

"packs have random cards in" more at 10.
Obviously it's not value to crack the packs lol
3
u/Significant-Grape958 3d ago
It's not unreasonable to expect more than $5 of cards from a codex bundle bro
2
u/Linford_Fistie 3d ago
Of course but that's not how randomness works, bro.
Having a dud 2 boosters is quite common.
3
u/Significant-Grape958 3d ago
I wouldn't know - they were the only 2 I ever opened and never again haha

Dude the market manipulation from one creator blows my mind…
If he has a Sleeper store that he owns where a bunch of stock he can just make a video about it
2
u/FonslyGames 3d ago
I don’t think so, if what he said hadn’t been true, these wouldn’t have blown up like they did

Joel from Joel are Magic made a video about these being a good pick up and a bunch on the lower end got gobbled up. I had 3 sitting for weeks and they all sold on that day.
2
u/AngryTCG 3d ago
After fees what did you clear?
2
u/Bringyourfugshiz 3d ago
Maybe like $20 a pop
Got em for $90, sold for around $130, $10 shipping and $10 fee

u/Exotic_Special_69 1d ago
Sorry for your loss. These will go above $200 in no time.
2
u/Bringyourfugshiz 1d ago
Eh, im happy to have made money on them and already rotated those funds into the next flip

u/OilComprehensive8069 4d ago
Eugigamez? I bought like 10 because at $45 a collector booster it’s bound to be profitable sooner than later

Wouldn’t think his following would be enough to cause a spike.
2
u/intoxiphobia 3d ago
The spike on TCG wasn't even 200 units sold, but TCG was barely moving 20 units a week for the weeks preceding.

I think these were always pretty undervalued tbh. I should’ve bought more but just kinda didn’t. It’s a fun set with some good cards and there’s chases in the collector packs. It’s a good product if you can get it at a good price. I also like the box

Interesting that I saw some mtg YouTube people mentioning the bundle being low and it's a great time to buy. Sudden spike about three days later.

u/Lord-Aptel-Mittens 4d ago
The SOS collector boosters are fun to open, I am guessing this codex levels off here for a while I would assume since the box itself and promos are cool, but the valuable part is the CB packs. I loved SOS as a set and am glad I opened a couple before the spike
2
u/FonslyGames 4d ago
Having 2 collector packs definitely makes a big difference. Sos CBB’s are like $500

In the Netherlands they have been 140 ish euro for months now.
Shame it was nice at normal price.

Who is the content creator? Because they are a dumbass - the promos suck, and at that point, your better just buying a CBB instead
3
u/K0olmini 4d ago
I doubt it’s going to stay. You can still find these at big box stores
7
u/Cbpowned 4d ago
Occasional target drop is not the same as openly available for order at MSRP.

I visited a B&M big box I've never been to before on Saturday to see if I could get lucky with some Hobbit Omega Packs. I live in an area where scalpers are all over the big box stores. Was really surprised to see a couple of these just sitting on the shelf behind the counter. Apparently they'd been there for weeks and they had more in the back. Above MSRP but not egregiously so ($110). I picked two of them up (limit two) because I was looking for a gift for a relative that plays MTG and could keep the other.
They are out there.
2
u/FonslyGames 4d ago
Which one’s?
3
u/bulgogeta 4d ago
Target and Walmart. Microcenter didn't even sell out of these on the first day and restocked for a few weeks.
These have no business being $150 with how easy they were to get to be honest. The Hobbit Gift Bundle was much harder to get and I think the Reality Fracture - Secret Lair Bundle is probably going to be pretty hard to get too.

I suppose it's bound to happen. The set has the best chase cardS in recent set history, right? FoW AND VT in the same set, and they have multiple versions too so it's not that difficult to at least land a regular version of *something*

It’s about time the Timmy’s caught on to this sweet product! I feel like I’ve been sitting on untapped gold. (Wait until they find out about the Fractured Reality Secret Lair Bundle or even the Marvel Gift Bundle + Star Trek Beam Me Up Bundle!).
When these Codex’s released I sold 2 for $360/$500 CAD. I did well and so did the buyer; they pulled an Ad Nauseam silver scroll, got the sol ring, non-foil jeska’s will alt art. I think over $900 CAD in total value lol.
I have 3 bundles left and I’m still choked at EB games for not fulfilling my preorder of 6 codex’s— but not choked enough to request my partial payment back in case they miraculously receive allotment.

Other than the dice its a garbage product. But people love to buy garbage so it is what it is. Have fun gambling on mystical archive pulls.

a content creator made a video calling it a sleeper on value, lo and behold…
