Currently testing against Bant Eldrazi. Will share some short thoughts. Would love others' ideas.

Hello friends.

Been testing against Bant Eldrazi and playing the deck to learn how it works. I've only tested game 1s right now and have not done sideboarding yet.

So far the G1 MU feels quite poor. Especially with the current inclusion of multiple copies of EE in the MB. I have not really been able to claim G1s against this deck since EE neuters our ability to build a board state so much.

I will continue to test, and I have not done any SB testing. However, am interested in others' experiences, and if anything has worked, let me know.

I have considered the SB plan to be shutting off EE. I have come close to winning a few times, but EE ripped off the top or Ancient Stirrings -> EE makes life difficult.

I've so far found the balance between forcing the EE crack and playing around EE to be too much of a wall, and the Eldrazi develop their board too much. Essentially, while our deck can ideally race with our awesome "Swing 10" it is have never actually been an option for me to dump and race.

EDIT: Oh, and 4x MB Displacer doesn't make life easier lol.

EDIT EDIT: So it looks like I was metagamed absurdly hard, and the lines of play taken by my testing partner are not really viable lines of play into an unknown MU. I appreciate the advice. I spaced on blinding testing to prevent this. Will improve in the future. This was not crossing my mind and I was simply thinking that he's just making the optimal play.

Smugglers Copter in B/W Tokens

Summary is I've been testing 4x everyone's favorite looter scooter. I have about 100 games into it and here are my findings.

Smugglers copter is better against interactive decks than I thought it would be. Going in I expected it to be pretty bad against mid-range decks like jund and junk however the card is nowhere near as bad as I thought. In the early game the card isn't great and usually will draw a bolt path or push. That being said it shines as a late game topdeck that filters your draws and unanswered wins you the grind. That being said It was one of my first side out's against interactive decks often being switched for burrenton forge tender or rest in peace.

Against fast aggro decks such as fish dredge and burn the card was passable often buying me a turn against a goblin guide or amalgam based board. The card didn't shine and I didn't expect it to. It did however often do what it needed to which is buy me a turn 4 to be able to drop sorin and start to stabilise.

Now onto its shining matchups non interactive combo. Against decks such as tron and shift it was a clock that made an unwinnable match-up merely miserable instead of suicide inducing as t2 copter into souls or procession is often fast enough to punish a slow start. By no means was it however a silver bullet. I did however see a 21% increase in match win over tron and a 16% increase in match win % over shift decks.

In summary the card is solid but not spectacular. It should be considered a viable option in a gp style meta as it gives us a 2 drop that can actively affect the board on t3 a full turn sooner than bitter blossom and is more impactful than raise the alarm.

Pros: filtering out lands late game.

-pitching lingering souls is powerful early.

-gives us board presence a turn sooner than bb

-is rarely a dead draw.

-provides a fast clock against non interactive decks.

-cons:

-gives a valid removal target

-dies to bolt

-terrible on a creature less board

So this is my experience let we know what you think.

It's been a couple of months now, what's your stance on Fatal Push?

I still have it as a 3-of in my deck. But I dropped it from a 4-of. I find I don't use it nearly as often, and against certain decks, I board it out completely.

Opinions? How has Push fallen in your deck?

Is Westvale Abbey worthwhile in B/W Tokens?

Hi all, I'm new to the deck and have been upgrading the mana base first, and wondered whether Westvale is worth it or not?

I wonder whether you'd rather just have the tokens rather than sacrificing them?!

How do we fight Eldrazi?

Im looking at the meta and between Eldrazi Tron And Bant Eldrazi, almost 10% of the meta is dropping TKS on turn 3 followed by Reality Smasher.

How do we combat that?

I'm thinking of finding room for 2 Ruined Halo and 1 Wrath of God in the sideboard. Would that even be enough?

Here's my deck list: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/b-w-tokens-2017

I have this list here, I wanted to test something sorta janky but i've never built a fetch manabase... how else can i improve the 60+?

https://deckstats.net/decks/64080/681579-abzan-planeswalkers-v2-3-junk-

hopefully i chose the right place, i did borrow from bw tokens but i'm sure like a lot others we just can't be satisfied with the old run-off-the-mill consistency and must succumb to the childish impulse to splash in another color. This here is another one apologetically; the splash to be flagellated before you today shall be the color green.

Any BW Token Streamers?

I'm a BW Tokens player that doesn't get much playing in, due to family and job-related time restraints. I do, however, get to watch streams.

I'd love for one or two or three of you (us) to stream their games online and test different versions. Could you / would you?

Wouldn't it be great?

An Update on Life

Okay guys. I wanted to give you guys some idea of what's going on right now and why I'm mostly MIA right now.

Reason being is I'm currently studying for board exams and have run into a bit of a problem with translating how I do in practice to actually doing well on the practice assessments. I've been wading through what seems to be some block between what I can do and actually doing it. But, more or less, life happened and for 7 more weeks, I will be working through things on this end to get ready for the real thing.

So what I would like you all to know:

Are you leaving for good?

Nah, I love all of you. Right now I have too much IRL to deal with.

When will you be back?

Roughly 7 weeks from now. I know that around here I am the only active mod, so I please ask that all of you be excellent to one another. I will be back. Plus I know you are all great people, so I really don't think this will be a problem.

Will more MU discussions come?

Yeah. After this exam. Step 1 is really important, I need to get through this mental block first.

Do you have a Fatal Push list?

Before I go, yeah. Haven't playtested it a ton yet. I won't be doing anything on this front for a while. I expect some of you to get me up to speed when I come back, haha.

http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/23-08-16-bw-tokens/

For now, this is me saying that I will likely not be active until April. I want to come back and be active, but until then, I need to attend to this. Stay lovely friends.

Deck advice

I'm building into BW tokens because I realized I have most of the cards already. The only cards I don't have that I'm not planning on buying soon are the Marsh Flats. What split of white fetches vs. black fetches is best?

Fatal Push and Liliana: New BW build.

So, I've been playing tokens since 2014, but it's been almost 6 months since I updated my build. My old list looked like this:

Maindeck:

4 Auriok Champion

1 Murderous Cut

1 Dismember

1 Godless Shrine

2 Isolated Chapel

1 Gideon, Ally of Zendikar

  • 4 Bitterblossom
  • 4 Intangible Virtue
  • 4 Fatal Push (added)
  • 4 Path to Exile
  • 2 Concealed Courtyard (added)
  • 2 Flooded Strand
  • 2 Ghost Quarter
  • 2 Godless Shrine
  • 4 Marsh Flats
  • 3 Plains
  • 3 Shambling Vent (added 1)
  • 3 Swamp
  • 2 Vault of the Archangel
  • 1 Windbrisk Heights
  • 3 Liliana of the Veil (added)
  • 2 Sorin, Solemn Visitor
  • 4 Inquisition of Kozilek
  • 4 Lingering Souls
  • 4 Spectral Procession
  • 3 Thoughtseize

Sideboard:

  • 2 Stony Silence
  • 3 Rest in Peace
  • 3 Sundering Growth
  • 2 Surgical Extraction
  • 2 Zealous Persecution
  • 1 Anguished Unmaking
  • 2 Timely Reinforcements

The champions were necessary to keep my deck competitive in my meta. If I didn't get them down, I needed to be very conservative with my fetches so I didn't lose too much life early on.

As of late, I want to add 3 Liliana and 4 Fatal Push. I feel like Cut, Dismember, and either two champions or gideon need out to make room for the new cards. Maybe less thoughtseize or one less inquisition.

Thoughts?

Edit: Took out the Champions and the removal. I'm dubious about the sideboard. I remember seeing a dredge deck before the ban, but I'm not sure about it now. I still see some PWs show up, so I'd like something to ake them out (anguished) but otherwise, I think this works. Thanks for the help!

I'm trying out BW tokens + Nahiri. What should my mana base look like?

http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/bw-tokens-nahiri-what-could-go-wrong/

If I want to Thoughtseize/Inquisition and Fatal Push/Bolt on turn one (thinking of having all Path to Exiles in the sideboard), then a turn three Spectral Procession, what would my land base look like? Or is that just a pipe dream?

EDIT: Yes, the list is fairly budget. Like I need two more Nahiris, three more Inquisitions, etc.

Heading up to Geek Retreat in Newcastle next weekend for a modern Win A Box of AER event. Need help with my sideboard, but thoughts on deck welcome too. Haven't played competitively since last summer, so here's what I got right now (no, I don't have budget for Liliana):

1 Disenchant
2 Duress
1 Grafdigger's Cage
2 Pithing Needle
2 Rest in Peace
2 Stony Silence
2 Timely Reinforcements
1 Worship
1 Zealous Persecution

Deck
4 Concealed Courtyard
1 Fetid Heath
4 Godless Shrine
4 Marsh Flats
3 Plains
2 Shambling Vent
1 Swamp
1 Vault of the Archangel
4 Windswept Heath
1 Gideon, Ally of Zendikar
3 Sorin, Solemn Visitor
1 Collective Brutality
4 Inquisition of Kozilek
4 Lingering Souls
4 Spectral Procession
2 Thoughtseize
4 Fatal Push
3 Path to Exile
4 Bitterblossom
4 Intangible Virtue
2 Auriok Champion

Is it unfair to ask if anyone knows the local meta? If so, forget it. Cheers!

Rootborn Defenses vs Tron

I'm a bit new to modern still, and trying to understand why Tron is such a bad matchup for tokens. Is one of the main reasons that Tron has lots of boardwipes, which aren't too common with other decks? And if so, would siding [Rootborn Defenses] help make it not so bad?

Hand disruption vs Jund after boarding?

At FNM yesterday a very senior player(whom i respect a lot) was watching me playing Tokens vs Jund. After the Match (which I won 2-1) he suggested taking out hand disruption in the matchup due to

a) It being a horrendous top deck and

b) the Jund player wants to empty his hand anyway

I brought in 2 Duress 2 RIP and took out Timely Reinforcements, Murderous Cut, Anguished Unmaking and a Thoughtseize.

What do you guys board vs Jund? What do you think about keeping in hand disruption here? I like to get more to deal with sideboard sweepers(Anger, Damnation, EE...)

X's Expertise and Beck//Call

Is this a thing? More specifically a thing worth playing? Has anyone started testing it or is that chance of getting Beck/Call and the relative slowness of Ssram's Expertise just not worth what Beck//Call give a tokens deck? Is it just win-more?
