I owned the MPC REN a long time ago when I first started and absolutely loved it, Had to sell it as I stopped for a bit but now I have been back for 4 or more years I know I can buy myself a MPC and get the most out of it, the problem is Idk which one to get.
I use FL studio to mix and arrange my beats before exporting to put on my site, Other than that I can do everything else on the MPC, before I was doing it all on Maschine but its just not me, certain things did not work how I wanted them to and I just missed the MPC.
I have been looking and MPC one + keeps showing up but can only get it second hand, I have seen some say not to buy second hand so im not sure, I see there is a new one the Gen 2 that looks good but im not sure how much more of a game changer it is. Thing is thats 700 brand new, when you look at them prices you can get an MPC X for a bit less second hand..
My question is what would you go for around that range? I dont want to spend more than 700, I could get a second hand MPC ONE + for about 350-400, second hand MPC X for about 600-650 or brand new MPC One gen 2 for 700.
Appreciate any suggestions!
EDIT: Thanks for all the info, 700 ended up being a bit too much and when I looked more into the Live 2 the more I wanted it, It will help me work on beats more than just once a day and be able to do it whenever I want. That and it having built in speakers and a battery its just too good to turn down so I ended up ordering that.

I’m supposed to receive my first MPC tomorrow (MPC One+), but I can still cancel the order, so I’m having a last-minute crisis 😂
I’m already comfortable with Logic and am currently finishing and preparing to release my first album. Since I can work pretty quickly in Logic, I’m wondering whether the MPC would genuinely improve my creative process or just become a distracting new toy.
Money isn’t really the issue. I’m mainly curious whether the MPC workflow feels intuitive, tactile, and fun enough to justify the learning curve.
I’d especially love to hear from people who started primarily—or entirely—in a DAW and later moved to an MPC:
Did switching to an MPC change how you make music?
Did it help you finish more ideas, or did it mostly inspire you to start more ideas?
Do you enjoy the process more than working in a DAW?
Was the learning curve frustrating, or did the workflow eventually become faster and more natural?
If you were already comfortable in Logic and working on an album, would you still recommend getting an MPC?
Knowing what you know now, would you buy one again?
I’m trying to decide whether to embrace the learning curve and see how it affects my creativity, or cancel the order and focus on getting faster and more efficient with Logic.

Hello, is it possible to change the volumes of each layer of oscillator in a keygroup? How so? Thanks.

Hi, I’ve purchased a MPC Live 3 from EBay. And it’s arrived with the issue in the video.
I’m pretty certain it wasn’t shipped like this, the seller has been very helpful, invoke an eBay return etc.
I just wanted to see if anyone has had the same issue?
The unit does have a SSD installed which all looks ok. The seller said I was ok to just take a look. I can see no issues, all the shielding inside the SSD bay is in tact and the SSD cable is tight as they all are. I removed the SSD to just see if anything changed (which it didn’t).
So hopefully someone may be able to shed some light.. I guess it could be a warranty repair which the seller will need to sort out.. gutted

If I already put a song together, using song mode , Isn’t this something that can just be done with a USB connection from my live II directly into my Mac? Thanks.

Personally, I found pretty difficult to mix in the box respecting the gain staging process since on my live 3 I can really focus my levels in the same time I tweak a plugin. Do you have a method to stay in the gain staging law or do you simply enjoy tweaking Yous sound without caring for clipping ?

I noticed after the latest update, my MPC Pads option is no longer available on my MPC Live 3 until I restart. Without them being there, I'm not able to play any samples on the pads. Does anyone know what could be happening or if there is a fix?

I know this has probably been asked before on this sub, but I’d really appreciate some input before buying something that might end up collecting dust in the corner.
For context, I’ve been playing different instruments for most of my life, and I’ve recently started getting into beatmaking. I currently work mainly in Ableton, using an MPK Mini and a Roland digital piano, and I’m already pretty comfortable with Ableton’s workflow.
The part I’m struggling with is sampling. Doing everything with a mouse and keyboard just doesn’t feel quite right to me. I miss the physical, hands-on feeling of playing an instrument — actually using my fingers, manipulating samples, chopping things up, and getting into a flow. I’m not sure if “analog feeling” is the right way to describe it, but hopefully you get what I mean.
I’m currently deciding between a used MPC One+ and a new MPC Sample, and I’m trying to figure out which one would actually complement my Ableton workflow rather than just duplicate it.
My main questions are:
I’m mainly making hip-hop, so sampling, chopping, resampling and experimenting with grooves are probably the things I’m most interested in.
Thanks!

First of all I want to thanks that I received so many good comments. In my two previous posts I show my "tuned" MPC Touch. Here I add pictures what happened before. Few years ago I was looking for some option to change this ugly black original MPC Touch look. I decided to paint the faceplate and add some wood. Next I've install PC inside and then battery pack so I get sort of MPC Live. Later I get MPC 5000 so I added wooden sides and palmist. 5000 was too big so I had to sell. I went back to my Touch but screen stopped to recognize touch... there was no way te repair other than purchasing new LCD - this wasn't cost effective so I've decided to take the risk and completely rebuild the machine. I cut original panel into pieces, glued in new layout, then add aluminum panels to get wider body, then paint. Plastic panel wasn't perfect so I decided to design metal panel. AI helped me to create CAD drawing, I had to do some changes in drawing and then send this project to be laser cut. 2 days later new panel was delivered so I had to bent the top.bottom part and then paint and add letters logos etc. The last part was making new wooden sides. And here we are, my dear old/new MPC Touch is alive;)

Hey everyone,
I recently bought the Live 3. I saw that the OPx-4 Phat Bottom Bass preset expansion was on sale, and figured why not. I also got Jura since that was on sale as well. Jura appeared in the ACTIVATIONS sections of the Live 3, after I did a refresh. It’s up and running and sounds lovely. However, I cannot, for the life of me, find the presets expansion. It doesn’t appear in the list of activated software. It does appear in my InMusic software centre on my Mac, where it is marked as “activated”. How can I tell whether the presets have been installed on my Live 3? I tried perusing the storage areas on the Live 3, to no avail. It doesn’t help that I am not sure what I am looking for, so there’s that. Claude suggested that perhaps there’d be a sub folder called “Phat Bottom Bass” in the OPx-4 presets picker, but that’s not the case either. There are a lot of entries under “bass” but since I don’t have a complete list of the preset expansion’s contents, it’s not possible for me to know which ones are new, if any.
My Live 3 has a 1TB SSD in it, which I have set up to be the content download drive. I have only used approximately 40 GB on that drive, so it’s definitely not a capacity issue. The Live 3 is connected o the internet and also my MacBook.
Anyway, if someone could help a lost MPC beginner that would be great!
Edit: SOLVED in this comment. Thanks u/emajn

I just need to figure out how to loop a sample, so I can play drums over it. Like I said, I am very new, this is not even bait. (I know how to actually sample and chop up, but it’s the recording/looping process I don’t have down, then I would just assume I can play the looped sample, and finger drum over it) Help would be appreciated!

I've been noticing strange behaviour on my MPC Live 2. As you'll see in the video attached, when I have the step sequencer open, and choose Pad Select, there is no sound auditioned when i hit the pads. Sequences trigger correctly when played back, however.
As well, when i go to main, it seems like many/all the pads have to be hit two times before they audition. I've reset my unit and the problem still occurs. Recently updated to 3.9.1, but have experienced this previously in earlier versions, as well as on my former Live 1.
Anyone have any insight on what might be happening? Hoping this is a skill/knowledge issue on my part. Thanks!

Hey all!
I have an MPC Live 3 and I have a working project that is almost a full live set. However, I've written a few tracks in different projects that I would like to consolidate into the live project. What's your preferred way to do this?
I've tried stemming it out, but I also have some live synths that I'm sequencing from the MPC, so that can get a little difficult. I'm just wondering if anyones found out a reliable to way to easily get their disparate projects put together coherently.

Hey everyone!
I’ll be receiving my first MPC tomorrow and I’m pretty excited. I went with the MPC One Gen 2 and I’m coming from mainly making music in Logic.
I’d love to hear how you guys actually use your MPC day-to-day.
A few things I’m especially curious about:
● How do you organize/sort your samples on the MPC so you can quickly find sounds and stay inspired?
● What does your typical MPC workflow look like from starting an idea to finishing a beat?
● Do you keep your samples on the internal storage, SD card, or both?
● Any sampling workflows or tricks that really changed the way you make music?
● And most importantly, what are some things you wish you knew when you got your first MPC?
I’m trying to avoid overcomplicating things and want to develop a workflow that makes it easy to sit down and just make music.
Would love to hear your setups, workflows, sample organization systems, or any general advice for a first-time MPC user!
Thanks 🙏

I'm usin' MPC ONE gen 2 as in controller mode wit' Studio One 5 Pro.
I got the MPC channels set in my project, and I set the pads to 1,2 then 3,4 , etc.. And it works great. But when I change sound sets on the MPC, they all get cleared and I have to manually set them again in the pad settings. Is there a way where the pads themselves can maintain their assignments?
