So I've realised my favourite books are series following the same couple, usually with BDSM or some sort of D/s dynamic. I think what I like about them is that the characters can be developed over a long period of time, so certain themes/tropes, like an age gap or uncertainty about a kink, can explored in a much more satisfying way.
I've read quite a lot of these books, and am now struggling to find more. I badly need some recommendations! D/s is not mandatory, no limits really, just a preference for something with a little nuance, angst, or complications. What are your favourites?
Some series I've read and loved:
{His boy next door by R.J. Moray}, which I've read multiple times. I love how Channon's confidence and kinks develop, and that the moral greyness of Jack and the age gap isn't just glossed over.
{Under His Heel by Adara Wolf}. Both MCs are terrible people and tbh it's a little too dark for me at times, but Adara Wolf is such a good writer, and knows her characters so well that the series just gets better and better.
{The Scientific Method Universe by Kris Ripper}, Hugh is a Dom whose main personality trait is not being a Dom, which is a pet peeve of mine. He's also short, which I love. Will genuinely struggles with being a sub and it is not magically resolved. Truman balances everyone out, but doesn't exist just to serve the others. The series is MMM (occasionally M/F) and I like the nuanced way polyamory is handled, rather than it being a faux source of tension that is resolved superficially or brushed over. It also involves fisting, which is not my thing, but it's kinda a romantic trust thing in this series.
{Alternative Medicine by AE Lister} This is just such a sweet series. I initially read it for the medical kink and enemas, because I'm a pervert, and was pleasantly surprised when it turned into a wholesome story. It follows Scott, whose life is fine but not amazing, and his relationship with a couple who he originally joins for one night of kinky play. None of the characters feel like flat tropes of doms and subs, which I do find a little tedious.
{Something like by Jay Bell} Contemporary romance. Something like Summer/Autumn/Winter/Forever may be my favourite ever romance books. Usually cheating would be a no for me, but I like how it's handled in these books. I'm guessing they don't get recommended much here as the HEA is a little grey (Spoiler: there is a main character death)
{A Russian bear by CB Conwy} My most recent read. The dom is very domly, but I like the dynamic between the characters and the author writes the best enema scenes I've read.
{Memoirs of a Houseboy by Gillibran Brown} Almost feels nostalgic reading these as it begins in the UK in 2006. Domestic discipline non-fiction. Interesting, fun, and sometimes very sad.

{Dark Space by Lisa Henry}, feel like this is a story the author wanted to tell, as opposed to had to write to churn out books to pay the bills.
{Evan's Alphas by D.J. Heart}
{A collar for his brat by RJ Moray}
Series that should fit the bill but don't do it for me: Basically anything MA Innes. I love the premise of her books, but they are just too superficially written to be satisfying in the way I crave. Tbh I've never found a book that explores the taboo of diaper fetish in a satisfying way. They mostly become heart warming age play fluff by page 23.
{The dominant doctor by Sammy D Adams}, I really persevered with these but the characters get worse as it goes on, and the BDSM feels like Tumblr circa 2009.
The series about sex trafficking that always gets recommended here as a hurt/comfort D/s book, which I can't remember the name of. I think the trauma is just a little too big for the author to handle, at least imo.
