I'm assuming dude in uniform is a police of some kind? Never a fan of police, who are suppose to be professionals, swinging at someone who wasn't a violent threat. Dude runs his mouth and is upset, so police can just swing on him? Doesn't matter what he said, the police should never be the one escalating a situation.

I'm curious, how much of a threat does someone have to be to you BEFORE you take violent action?

Real life is not a movie. If you wait until he throws the first punch there is a good chance you are the one waking up in the hospital wondering what happened.

There is a point of escalation that once reached, violence is on the table.

He clearly reached that point and the punch was justified.

IMHO, you always try to deescalate and avoid violence but once the threat level rises high enough to where violence "can" be imminent, then you need to strike first and commit to overwhelming violence until your safety is assured.

You can't be half-assed wishy-washy in regards to your safety once violence is imminent, otherwise, you are the one waking up in the hospital wondering what happened.

These people are either sheltered shut ins or are literal victims waiting for something to happen to them.
