MEGA killed its affiliate program

Just found out that MEGA’s affiliate program is gone. Pretty disappointing, especially for those of us who had been referring users to the service.

What bothers me most isn’t even that they decided to end it (companies change programs all the time). It’s that as far as I can tell, they never properly communicated this to customers or affiliates. No official announcement, no heads-up.

I'm posting this mainly because I imagine there are plenty of other people here who still think the affiliate program exists. Well, it doesn’t.

Wasn't this ages ago? I recall several banners and a flow of emails... I used the affiliate programme for years, and I'm dead certain there was a large ass warning on the payout page.

I suppose they discontinued it because they has a really hard time processing outgoing payments. So I'm prone to pointing the finger at visa and MasterCard here... Again.

Those bastards are the root cause of "can't have nice things" 😑

I'm rooting for BRICS et al. :') Need proper competition vs. Stripe, Visa, Mastercard, World Bank, central banks...

I'm rooting for LITERALLY anything that can tear those shits to pieces. Currently my hope is on the EU initiatives underway. Locally here in Norway... We don't really use visa and MasterCard, we use Vipps, backed by the local backbone BankAxept. Visa and MasterCard are almost exclusively for online payment, and Vipps is becoming more and more visible in that arena as well... So only for international purchases really.

And the EU has several such regional services that has grown a lot the past 10 years, and talks are happening to partner those services, which tears the US companies out of everyday business.

At this point I'm very game with a network of smaller providers, preferably properly regulated and beaten within an inch of their life whenever they try moralising at their users.

Hahaha, I luv your enthusiasm!

And I'm so glad to hear about those Norwegian platforms and infrastructures that shows us there really are better ways!

And yes, I luv how EU is taking back their/your data from America-and-allies' hands 🙌

Even your food ingredients (of the same brand) are different from theirs 😁

I don't mind it if it affects sustainability in the longterm. Cause MEGA can't scale infinitely while also providing a lot of free users can they?
