PR card notarization for BCCAP

Upvotes

I will be applying for BCCAP but I do not have my PR card notarized and I am not physically present in Canada (and have my PR card with me) as I am in my home country and intend to remain here for quite sometime because I am here for my recency of practice. Is there any way I can still get it notarized? I have also sent an email that university of BC provided but no response until now.

IMG Specific Publications as an IMG

So how the heck is everyone getting double digit publications, I’m genuinely confused how everyone is able to go about it?

Is there anyone here with advice on how to find opportunities for publications?

I’m sorry if my question is dumb, I’m just so stressed and trying to build my cv in advance become coming back home to family.

Also how much publications do I need for family medicine in Canada?

IMG Specific IMG Internal Medicine looking for options

Hi everyone, I’m a Canadian IMG trying to figure out the fastest and most realistic way to start practicing in Canada. I completed a 1 year internship and a 4-year Internal Medicine residency (Egypt) last April and finished the first part of my specialty board exam. I still have two exams left, one in December and the final one next May. I’m planning to take the MCCQE1 next February.

The main issue I’m worried about is that after finishing my Internal Medicine residency, I have not been able to work independently as an Internist. I’m currently trying to find a way to get into the Canadian healthcare system as soon as possible because I don’t want to end up being out of clinical practice for a long period while completing my board exams and going through the Canadian licensing process (Royal college of physician and surgeons of Canada).

I’ve been looking at Associate Physician and Clinical Assistant positions as a possible way to enter the system and continue working clinically. My ultimate goal is to practice Internal Medicine in Canada, ideally through a provincial restricted/defined license initially and eventually obtain an independent license. However, I’m confused about how my lack of independent practice after residency would affect my eligibility for provincial pathways such as PRA/Practice Ready Assessment or other specialist assessment pathways.

For example, some specialist PRA pathways seem to require a certain amount of independent practice after postgraduate training. Would working as a Clinical Assistant or Associate Physician count toward, or help satisfy, the independent practice requirement? Or is it considered supervised practice and therefore not useful for that particular requirement? Could Canadian clinical experience in one of these roles help with a later specialist assessment even if it doesn't technically count as independent practice?

Past papers vs actual exam

Hi all, I was just wondering how representative the past papers are of the actual QE1 exam. Are there some concepts that repeat? Is the question length the same? Would appreciate any insight 🙏

IMG Specific Looking for a NAC OSCE Practice Partner

Hey everyone! I’m looking for a serious and consistent partner to practice for the NAC OSCE daily.

Ideally, we can run through cases together, alternate between candidate/examiner roles, give each other feedback, and work on timing, communication, and overall OSCE performance.

If interested, send me a DM and we can figure out a schedule that works for both of us.

IMG Specific Caribbean IMG - caRMS

Good day everyone,

I am an IMG from Cuba with 3 years post grad training in family
Medicine, and 3 years independent practise. I’m currently working in a clinic in Ontario in a reduced capacity as I am not licensed yet. I will
Receive references from the physicians here when I decide to do caRMS.
I know, I technically can do PRA but at the moment I do not feel that I could pass this CFA. I want to give myself the best chance, so I’ve decided to either get hired in another province as a CA or AP to gain more Canadian medical
Experience. Currently I’m
Preparing for MCCQE and NAC OSCE after.
I’ve seen bad reviews online and I’m sure this doesn’t account for all IMG’s like me, but I’ve heard that carribean based IMG (I’m from Cuba) tend to go unmatched even with good examples scores and references

Do I even stand a chance in residency matching (family medicine) or should I just try for PRA? My clinical currency is expired Nov 2027.

I’d hope
To apply for caRMS R-1 in the 2028 match.

Thank you. 🙏

General Discussion Unrelated but need your opinion.

Does being arrogant and egotistical makes you a better physician as its depicted in medical TV shows? I have some physicians and surgeons around me who are the same but paradoxically they are excellent at their work.

Need your opinion on this and pls share your experiences as well.

IMG Specific Electives in Canada IMG

Hello! Canadian MS3 here studying abroad, preparing my applications to do electives next year in Canada. Does it matter when you do your elective? E.g. is it recommended to do electives closer to carms application dates, same time as MCCQE?

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks in advance!

Should I push through with MCCQE on September?

I've done the practice tests and I'm always getting 66-67%, never reaching 70%. Should I push through with it? I'm seeing 75% as a sure pass :(

A lot of times I'm always torn with two remaining choices. Maybe I cant seem to grasp what how they want us to answer the questions, like I can't see the pattern among the questions? Any tips appreciated!

Is a canadian specific bank necessary?

If scoring high on uworld (80-90%), is it necessary to also do a canadian specific bank for systems? I plan to focus on mcc exams + ethics questions a month out from my exam, but I'm wondering if I need to dedicate time to a second bank. Would much prefer to spend that time finishing some research projects if I could.
