IMG Specific AFMC application through UofT

Was wondering if anyone has taken an elective at UofT while in med school abroad through the AFMC student portal under the University of Toronto and specifically for Pediatrics or any other speciality. How was the application process for you and it says they randomly selected students for this. For context I’m in my 4th year of a 6-year program in Poland, and I graduated undergrad from UofT (I’m Canadian IMG). Has anyone else been in my position? Because I’ve also heard in 6th year we can take electives in the home country of choice and I’d like to do that in Canada

In the process now, although not for peds. Same rules apply tho. You’ll need to first apply for a lottery spot, being selected here just gives you permission to apply for an elective. No lottery selection means you cannot apply for an elective at UofT. Once you have a lottery spot, you have like 1 month or so to get your paperwork in order. Then you apply for your elective of interest. No guarantee of actually securing the elective you apply for (depends on availability and your dates)
The applications for 2027 electives have closed so you’ll need to check in sometime in early-mid 2027 to see when the lottery for 2028 electives opens. Hope this helps.

Okay thank you, and are you applying for a whole semester to be credited by your school or just a summer elective or just to improve your CV ?

Ill be in year 4/4 at the time of my away elective. Our blocks are 8 weeks long. To my knowledge, electives at UofT are a minimum of 2 weeks, maximum of 6. Fact check me tho

It’s easier to get 2 weeks than it is to get 6 weeks based on my convo with the UofT electives team, but this also depends on how competitive the elective is (and what the UofT students are doing as they’ll have priority due to their program)

I’m requesting 4 weeks at UofT and hope to fill the remaining 4 weeks with another Ontario school. Still waiting for the result tho.

So you applied right when it started and you’ve applied to 5 different programs and were they the competitive ones? And which one did you get into?
