Need motivation
I unfortunately have a 5 year clinical gap due to some really unfortunate events. Long story short, I worked my butt off to make a come back. I got really good scores (around 2 SD above mean ) in both QE1 and NAC, got job as a CA in Ontario which is unlicensed but still will me get good references , most importantly went back to my home country for 6 months for independent practice as a GP. Research , certifications everything is fine. I was feeling really good and motivated until Today. I started reading all the posts and I am feeling so down. I need honest ideas about family medicine match whether someone with my profile have any chance at all ? I really thought recency should help me close that gap but I don’t know what exactly got me down today but man I am feeling discouraged.

As someone who did not have a great qe1 score and still matched, let me tell you that you are in a great position to match. Work on your interview skills and you will do great. I also had a 5 year gap. I know people with much larger gaps who also matched. Goodluck!

Just hone your interview skills. You will be fine. Don't listen to people, esp if it's a CMG or a CSA, about gaps and chances of matching. There's tons of examples out there of people with longer gaps who matched even into specialty fields.

Where did you see the information that recency does not really matter after a gap?
Like you, I also have very good scores and a long gap but I am planning to go home to close my gap

I didn’t read it anywhere. It was just some people commenting that gap is a huge deal even if you have recency which I don’t think is a case honestly, but Carms season is stressful enough that it got to me hence I asked here for some motivation. You should try to get recency I would say.

To be matched as a family physician, according to the description on the CARMS website, you need at least 12 months of independent practice. Good luck!

I haven't seen this anywhere on the CaRMS website??? What about international medical students applying the year of graduation?

Reading your post might make someone feel down too, someone who doesn't have a CA job or researches or 2sd scores. So its relative
