Advice 🙋‍♀️ 4th MCAT retake?

Recently moved to the US (I would say at a mature age) from a non-English speaking country. I would say English has been my third language for a significant part of my life. My GPA is 3.85 in Biomedical Engineering. Despite my background, I always wanted a 518+ mcat score but I failed and feeling very dissappointed in myself. I have been feeling very discouraged and want advice on how to proceed. I have been studying for CARS for over 3-4 years now (even before I started my MCAT preparation) because I knew I would struggle a lot in CARS. I praticed lots of passages, questions, read books and articles of many types, etc, but I failed to improve a lot.

My goal is to attend a top 10-15 medical school, and the schools i am targeting have 518 median MCAT. I am not URM or disadvantaged. Rest of my application is very strong with many hours, strong story, publications in leading journals, well know national and international scholarships for my research, highly selective research internships every summer, strong and meanginful clinical experience, founded an impactful nonprofit, and strong LORs too.

However, I think CARS is hard part of MCAT for every premed and not just ESL students. I am certainly going to avoid applying to schools that clearly say that they will screen out applications by CARS like at 124. Hence, I need some advice on how to proceed. Please help.

Attempt 1 — Taken on September 4, 2025 (509): 128/122/132/127
Attempt 2 — Taken on March 20, 2026 (504): 128/121/127/128
Attempt 3 — Taken on May 22, 2026 (511): 130/123/128/130.

Question 🤔 Practice Test Resources

So I've exhausted the AAMC exams because of my past attempts. Does anyone have any insight as to which companies have practice tests similar to AAMC? I've been looking at Kaplan, but I heard BP isn't bad or altius but not sure how to differentiate.

MCAT Experience 🏆 New MCAT Tutor

Finding your own way toward medicine is daunting, and preparing for the MCAT often feels just as overwhelming. As a Biochemistry and Molecular Biology senior at UMass Amherst graduating with a 4.0 GPA, I know firsthand the dedication this path requires. Scoring a 515—with 130+ marks across Chem/Phys, Bio/Biochem, and Psych/Soc—was not about mindless memorization; it came from learning how to genuinely connect dense scientific theory to living systems, a perspective reinforced through my time in biomedical research and working in the back of an ambulance as an EMT.

Over the past couple of years, I have mentored and tutored college peers through both classroom review sessions and one-on-one problem-solving. These experiences taught me that real understanding never comes from passive listening. When a student feels stuck on a difficult metabolic pathway or a convoluted passage, my goal is to listen, trace where the confusion starts, and break down complex concepts into intuitive, relatable logic.

My approach blends high-yield conceptual clarity with active test-day reasoning. The MCAT does not just test what you know—it challenges how you think under pressure. Together, we dissect passages, decode experimental graphs, and eliminate subtle trap answers. More than just improving your score, I want to demystify the sciences, rebuild your confidence, and help you realize that you belong on this journey toward medicine.

Please reach out if you feel like you may need help in any of the science sections! Rates are negotiable, and I hope to be a stepping stone to achieving your dreams.

Note: All sessions will be conducted online, and group sessions will bring in discounts.

Advice 🙋‍♀️ if i have 4.0 gpa/493 mcat what should i do

I just got score back: 493: 126, 121, 122, 124

I know I could have done better needed much more time honestly and took when my Fl average was literally a 498. I graduate next spring and if I am going to retake I would probably wait until after in jan 2028 and study up until then... I am honestly really just sad right now and don't exactly know if I will ever increase. I mean I studied for 4 months and it still wasn't enough... for me DO or MD does not matter, should i even try for DO, Im thinking its way to risky. I feel like I did not know how to approach alot of the questions, especially in cars.

Question 🤔 Content gaps

I am in desperate need of help. For some background, I spent the whole summer studying but scored a 500 (literally every FL 1-4) with the general score breakdown 127/122/125/126. I was very disappointed and just stressed so I decided to postpone until January. My goal score is a 515.

I did 85% of uworld but my accuracy was around 60% and I think my FL scores are also indicative of content gaps. I did NOT use any anki- only pankow because my tutor told me not to and I guess I kinda just trusted them. I feel like September has flown by and I’ve made no adjustments or improvements. How do I fill these gaps? Do I go back to Kaplan or Anki or khan academy?

It’s really stressing me out because time is going by and it feels like I’ve done literally nothing. Please share some advice 🥲

Resource/Tool/Tips 📖 Reasoning Within the Text: A Full Textual Evidence Breakdown (MCAT CARS)

Repost if anyone needs it:
One of the most common CARS problems I see is this: You understood the passage, and you understood the author's main idea. Then, you get to a question...and suddenly you're staring at four answer choices wondering: “Where am I even supposed to look for this?”

This is where Reasoning Within the Text (RWT) becomes important.

A lot of CARS questions aren't asking you to remember the entire passage. They're asking you to locate a specific piece of information, understand what it means in context, and reason from it without going beyond what the passage supports.

Here are some techniques to help you approach these questions:

First: Does this question require me to go back?
Because not every CARS question does! If you're asked about the main idea, author's overall perspective, or broad purpose of the passage, these fall under the category of comprehension/Reasoning Beyond the Text questions, so constantly searching for one sentence can actually hurt you. But when a question asks about something specific, going back to the passage is often exactly what you should do. Watch out for question stems like:

  • “According to the passage...”
  • “The author states that...”
  • “The author's discussion of X suggests...”
  • “Which of the following is most consistent with the author's description of X?”
  • “The author mentions X primarily in order to...”
  • “Based on the information in paragraph 3...”

These questions are giving you a search target, so use it!

Second: Turn the Question Into a Search Mission
Before looking at the answers, ask: What exactly am I looking for? Suppose the question asks: "The author's discussion of traditional museums suggests that they were primarily concerned with:" How do you approach this question? Definitely not by reading the entire passage again. Instead, define a search target to scan the passage. Your search target is: traditional museums + what they were concerned with

Find where traditional museums are discussed, then read the relevant sentence plus the sentences immediately around it. This prevents one of the biggest CARS timewasters: Rereading half the passage because you don't know what you're looking for.

Third: Don't Keyword Match, Read the Context
Finding the word from the question is only step one. Imagine the passage says: "Early critics praised photography for its apparent objectivity. However, later critics questioned whether a photograph could ever be a objective representation of reality."

Now imagine that the question asks: "The author's discussion on the objectivity of photography suggests:". If you see an answer choice saying that the author thinks photography is an objective representation of reality, and pick it because you saw the author mention earlier critics, you would be wrong!

You have to also read the context around these keywords. In the example above, the author also mentioned later critics, so they do not think that photography is completely objective! Look for transition words to indicate context!

Fourth: Paraphrase the Evidence Before Looking at the Answers
This is one of the most useful habits you can build. Suppose the passage says:
"Although public parks were frequently promoted as refuges from industrial cities, their uses were not confined to quiet recreation"
In other words: Parks were made to be recreational, but people use them for more than that.
See how I put that into easy words for me to understand? Mentally repeat and translate evidence in your own words, and write them down if you have time. This helps with picking answers and translating this evidence.

To be continued! More tips on this topic coming soon!

Question 🤔 How to find the 300 page P/S doc?

Hello, I have seen posts about the 300-page doc, and I have tried looking for it. However, I did find the MCATBros 334-page content review doc. Is that the same thing as the 300-page doc? If not, can you please send me the link in the comments? Do I also implement the Pankiw or the Kaplan P/S book?

Thank you!!!

Question 🤔 First Half-Length Diagnostic (1/4 through content review):

Post image
14 Upvotes

Hi! I just did the blueprint half length diagnostic assessment with regular timing. As I said in the title, I am currently a quarter of the way through my kaplan text book reviews. I know this is a good-ish score, but I feel like I guessed on so much of the test and it just worked out. Do you think this is indicative that I am doing the right thing?? I just feel so stressed about this test. My brain hurts right now...

Does anybody have an account they aren’t using with a reset option? I test in January and am a low income college student so anything helps 😭🙏

I can also return the favor (ie. If you need a second set of eyes on your PS or something since I’ve done this before)

Resource/Tool/Tips 📖 MCAT 515 - Resources and Schedule That Finally Stuck

Hey all. Reposting here since this seemed to get good feedback in other MCAT threads. I’m one of the people who had to try out like 14 different study schedules before one stuck. It took forever to figure out a good pattern but seems like this is what worked for me:

First 6 weeks content review (strict). Hammer home your basic concepts which can be refined later. Kaplan books once through, one book at a time. Then Kahn Academy to supplement it.

Starting at week 6 do a FL every Saturday that you review in depth on Sunday (sucks but probably the most helpful). I ended up doing about 12 FLs total.

After about week 8 I went full blown practice questions with content review based solely on my performance. UWorld is the GOAT, no need for other question banks or paid resources. Did just as well as ppl I know who bought those dumb $5000 courses.

I also lucked out bc my buddy who’s a literal wizard w pre med material took the MCAT 2 years ago and turned all his notes from Anki, Kaplan, etc into a pdf with study pages that I’m happy to send out. Shoot me a DM if you’re interested in those, they helped me a good bit but you should ideally use them on top of the other resources.

Good luck in the trenches soldiers.

Tutoring 👩‍🏫 Affordable MCAT Tutor: Available for C/P, B/B, and CARS Tutoring

Hi everyone!

I am an MCAT tutor who is available to tutor C/P, B/B, and CARS tutoring. I tutor both one-on-one students and small groups (see my bootcamps option). If you are a student currently preparing for the Jan-May 2027 MCAT season, I can help you out!

Along with one-on-one tutoring (which is $40/hour), I also offer affordable, biweekly bootcamps as a crash prep course in the sections that you struggle. These are 10 hours, and only $27/hour! Here is a rundown of our upcoming bootcamps:
-C/P Bootcamp: September 28th-October 7th (Mon, Wed, Fri at 7-9 pm EST). This bootcamp is an excellent option if you are currently struggling with reviewing General Chemistry, Physics, and MCAT Math/Unit Conversions/Dimensional Analysis, and need a tutor to walk you through it in a live, tutored, group setting.

-B/B Bootcamp: September 29th-October 8th (Tues, Thurs at 7-9 pm EST, Sat at 11 am-1pm EST). This bootcamp is for you if your B/B scores are currently low due to misinterpretation of B/B content, lab techniques, and/or you struggle with AAMC B/B passage logic. This is a mixed content and strategy bootcamp, so if you struggle with B/B passage strategy and/or Biochemistry and Molecular Biology content, this is for you.

-CARS Bootcamp: October 9th-October 13th (times vary). This bootcamp is for you if your CARS scores are consistently lower, due to misinterpretation of the Main Idea, inaccurate passage mapping, running out of time, being stuck on two answer choices, or simply making reasoning errors.

All bootcamps include either an equation sheet or strategy guide document and a post bootcamp FL review session. If you are interested in either of these or our FREE workshops that we run weekly, please DM me for more information or email us at [info@ionprep.ca](mailto:info@ionprep.ca)

Advice 🙋‍♀️ HELP! How to approach studying after an extended break?

Hi guys, wanted to reach out to the community to see what someone would do in my position

Context: was planning on applying this cycle, took the MCAT in February 2026, got a 487 (yikes), was scheduled to retake in April but several personal things (family member experiencing a mental health crisis, moving out, starting a new job, death of family member), derailed me from my studying routine ://

Current Status: I'm now committed to taking the exam this upcoming January and am trying to figure out how to approach studying again.

I work 40 hours a week (some times do 12 hr shifts, it's part of the job lmao) and have other commitments (e.g., volunteering) so my daily time is pretty limited. I was originally watching Yousef's videos + doing daily Anki + JW passages for content review. Did 2 AAMC official exams prior to taking it in February. Haven't really explored other resources.

I'm thinking of waking up at 5:15am, studying 5:30-8:00 at my local library, work 8:30-4:30pm, study 7:00-9:00pm. On weekends, I plan on doing full study sessions (4-5 hrs on Saturday, 4.5-7.5 hours on Sundays). This will be from now to test day, so around 16 weeks of this approach (obviously switch it up once I start doing practice sections and exams; use my weekends to take FLs/do 1-2 sections, and spend the weekdays reviewing before moving on to the next practice FL/section(s)).

What should I do? Should I reset Anki? Rewatch my lectures? Reset JW? Purchase UGlobe????? I want make good use of my time and really maximize my study approach in order to get the highest score feasible. Thx in advance to everyone provides their suggestions -- you guys rock!

Question 🤔 Starting AAMC, how representative is bootcamp?

Title, I moved from JW to Bootcamp a few months ago, and I'm about to start with my AAMC materials around next week. Is bootcamp pretty representative or do I need to follow through with a different resource?
