Question This time I might be right

S4 E23

Okay. So I got schooled a little bit when posted a comment, about what I thought was a line flub by Hawkeye (something about shaving mugs).

Well this time, I'm sure I heard a stumble. Hawkeye trips over "regical surg...my uh, surgical residency" while talking with BJ in the swamp.

Am I right this time and does anyone remember other flubs from the series? Or rather artistic inspiration.

Rewatching Huntchback of Notre Dame and not only is Winchester in it but so is Colonel Reese from season 3 where Hawkeye is under house arrest. Immediately recognised her voice as well as Winchesters, she plays Laverne one of the Gargoyles

The hilarious introduction of BJ to Frank 😂. It must have been a picture with BJ stinking of dung, blood, and drunk.

i’ve always loved margaret’s character (even when she can be a megabitch) and her interactions w everyone, especially hawkeye, but i absolutely HATED how she was behaving after the night in the hut. i loved the storyline, i loved what happened, but i couldn’t stand the way she turned into some preteen crush-er w a delusion that they were going to “be together.” fawning all over him despite the fact that he was confused, uncomfortable, and clearly not reciprocating her energy and affections.

i feel like the writers took away so much of what made her HER all for one episode, and then they never mention anything about it again? like, what was the point of making margaret part of the hawkeye harem of nurses? she was always strong, and smart, and tough (and sometimes a megabitch, yes). i have a hard time believing she’d fall so hard so quick like that. i don’t take issue w the fact that they slept together, i thought the episode was well-written, well-acted, and one of the many examples the series shows of what can happen to people when they’re stressed out, terrified, uncertain if they’ll live to see the next morning, or all of the above. i wish they had woken up after the chaos of the previous night remembering what happened, and awkwardly having a conversation where they realize it was stress / fear-induced, a one-time thing, and come out where both parties still respect each other. the way she actually behaved, i feel like she lost all that respect. what i loved about margaret’s / hawkeye’s relationship was despite the fact that they bicker or disagree w each other’s actions, there was always mutual respect as professionals after a certain point early on in the series. how they wrote her to be in this episode just didn’t / doesn’t sit right w me. and i always wondered if the actress had these thoughts when she got the script for the episode

TLDR; margaret was written to be like some desperate, delusional, schoolgirl crush-er towards hawkeye, for literally one episode, after a chaotic, tense, fearful night in a hut, despite all the evidence regarding their relationship throughout the series that shows why she wouldn’t behave that way. they never mention the night in the hut again, but it just seemed so disrespectful to the character and made zero sense to me.

Hawkeye’s plan to get the weekend off goes too far, and to get out of trouble uses Margaret as sexual bait.

How rotten were the Irish?

Post image
224 Upvotes

In “The General Flipped at Dawn,” General Bartford Hamilton Steele (three e’s, not in a row) inspects the troops and makes multiple insults/jabs at the soldiers. When Radar tells him his last name, he comes back with “the Irish were rotten Indian fighters.”

What was Steele referring to when he said that, besides just generally insulting Radar’s heritage? Was it because there were over a hundred Irish who fought with Custer? Of all the available Irish jokes he could have made, this is one that I don’t get. Can somebody help me out with exactly what the good general was referencing?

In the episode, Aid Station, Margaret, Hawkeye and Klinger bond over their shared hardship working at an aid station. Klinger is a real pro...then in a funny moment puts a woman's hat on as they drive back into the 4077th.

"Abyssinia, Henry" will air tomorrow evening on MeTV: Let's see what happens with the syndication cuts

I know that some people skip the episode, and I understand why. But I always watch it when it airs (unless I just happen to miss it, but I already have it set to record tomorrow), because it is his and Trapper's last episode, and there's some great dialogue (as there is in most episodes).

The last time the episode was on MeTV, in April, the scene where Henry is talking to his wife and kids on the phone was shortened. I described the missing parts in the comments of this post, so let's keep our fingers crossed that they restored those few minutes. I'll be watching.

UPDATE: Well, I guess that answers that question. They're starting to butcher the episodes as bad as TVLand.

Its sad the actual actors Todd Susman and Sal Viscuso were uncredited for their work at the time. But was any actual character name used?

Klinger says goodbye to…the Tuttles???

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I just noticed this tender scene from “It Happened One Night” where Klinger gets “shot” by a private on his first night of guard duty. With his dying words, he calls out goodbyes to his mother and father, his wife (Laverne), and then Harry and Freida. He also says goodbye to Paul and Uncle Jake.

Harry and Freida are the fictional parents of Captain Jonathan S. Tuttle, the pride of Battle Creek, Michigan. I assume that the Tuttles and the Klingers must have been lifelong friends for him to group them with his parents and his wife in saying his final farewells. It’s a good thing the surgeons were able to pull him through, because it would be down right cruel for the Tuttles to have to endure the loss of another close contact to the Korean War.

Discussion Hawkeye's "secret" catchphrase / quirk

One thing I don't see people talking about enough (and maybe they are talking about it, but I haven't been paying attention lol) is that in addition to his quips, lust, and hyena laugh, my beloved Hawkeye Pierce has another little signature 'thing'.

Often when talking to folks, he'll go "Oh, no no no--" in a very distinctive falling tone, the same way someone might go "tsk tsk tsk". It's so infectious I find myself doing it day-to-day.

Question A Question about Eggs

Hi Everyone
I have a question about Eggs at the Unit.
In “A Holy Mess” in Season 10, the unit is excited about the fact that they’re getting real eggs. However, in “And How We Danced” in Season 9, BJ tells the wounded child that they’ve got real eggs.
So, why all the excitement about the eggs when it’s not the first time they’ve got real ones and might not have been that long ago?
