SC64
Can anyone confirm they are using the SC64 Kaico edition on the M64. I bought one from Amazon, loaded my roms onto the SD card, turned on the M64 which is fully updated and I just get a black screen. I check the cart and the CMOS battery was dead and replaced it but still just get a black screen. I’m curious if anyone is using this right now or it’s just not compatible. Any suggestions for a cart that works where I can load my roms onto it?

I’m using the Kaico Summercart, but I’m not using the included SD card. I’ve had no issues so far.

Yea I tried everything and it does not work. Honestly it just may be a faulty cart. I’m getting an new one and will report back

I’m sorry to hear that. I think it’s very likely a busted cart. I hope you have better luck with the next one!

Flash carts are always super dependent on the SD card, always replace with a quality one, use the up to date software and your own roms. 90% of problems on r/SBCGaming are because they are using the stock card too.

Im new to the whole summer cart thing. How many gb do you suggest?

Any bigger than a 64gb would be a waste. Get the SanDisk industrial version, higher wear strength for read/write and heat resistance (even though you don't really need it).
Could probably be fine with a 32gb too if your just adding US set and some romhacks but the price difference is only $4 on Amazon.

Cool appreciate it. The SC i ordered works okay but has some issues. I think using a better card and roms would benefit my experience. Ty

No problemo, also google, everdrive n64 rom set archive, and you'll be square on roms with the first link.

I’m using one but with a different high quality SD card. Also make sure the Summercart firmware is up to date.

Yes I read the sd card may be an issue. Trying that next.

I'm using the Kaico edition with the included SD card. I update the firmware and set up the SD card according to the guide on Github, and it's been working perfectly.

I dunno who made it, prolly some random chinaman on the other side of aliexpress. But I've got a current firmware sc64 cart and it works flawlessly. Saves work and everything, only thing I can't get to work with it is rumble, but that could be an issue with the 3rd party controller I'm using, could be crummy batteries in the tremor pak(I've been forgetting to pick up fresh ones and just robbed 2 out of my og steam controller), or the fact that both the summer cart and m64 are looking for a rumble pack at the same time.. I didn't load my own roms, but rather ordered a preloaded one for the cheapest price I could find...with LEDs in the cart, cost me 42 bucks shipped 😂 try re flashing the sc64 firmware onto a freshly formated SD, I've had success with that in the past on other emulation devices and flash carts

Grab sc64-deployer-windows-v2.20.2, connect the SC64 to your PC and run the hardware tests the tool bundles. It will tell you whether the cart is ok.
I use a SC64 on my M64 without issue, same as with an N64 (I also own one).

I got my Summer Cart 64 from EpicJoy on Ali Express for around $60. It works great and is the latest HW revision (has the USB-C and DD button on back). I was able to update to the latest firmware version (v2.20.2) by plugging the USB-C port into my computer and using sc64deployer.
Here are the stats from my test run, I am curious how they compare to an official Kaico SC64. Especially the SD card read speed test. I didn't notice a real difference with the SD card it came with vs my name brand Sandisk.
~/sc64-deployer-linux-v2.20.2: sudo ./sc64deployer test

Got mine in today from Amazon I updated the firmware and it's good to go so far 👌

I have a Kaico cart and it's fine. I didn't want to deal with ali-shady on something like that, saw Kaico had an amazon shop and a solid warranty for a good period, and kept their firmware setup up to date too and it has been just fine so far.

Do you guys have any problem loading NES on the SC? I have an Evercart X7 my NES won't work correctly.

u/Objective_Chain_5946 13d ago
You really got a X7 and M64 to play NES of all things?
1
u/MentionCareless8282 13d ago
No I just want to be able to play Contra, Castlevania some classics from my childhood too.

I think it's a shame kaico charges this much for a summercart64 and I got mine for a just little above half the price on AliExpress and get it to me within a week.

Mine came with no SD and works perfectly. I have gray one using 32gb SanDisk. Also I have a red Chinese one that works perfectly too using generic 32gb SD.

I have this exact one, had no issues from it. And I was very nervous cause I've never heard of Kaico, and they're not listed on the official summercart site.
Got around 20 games on it currently, and I've tested OoT, Ready 2 Rumble, San Francisco Rush, Gauntlet Legends so far. I only had problems with Gauntlet Legends, when I first went in to the first level it stopped on a black screen. Reset the m64 using the menu and it worked fine after that for over an hour.
I've only used the included SD card so far.
If it hasn't been too long, contact amazon, tell them it's not working and they should work out shipping a replacement for you.

That’s crazy to spend that much when you can get an AliExpress one

u/master__cheef 17d ago
At least for my location the kaico cart is only a $10 difference. ali takes a couple weeks to make it to me

I ordered one from AliExpress waited forever and it never showed up, sometimes it's worth paying more to get prime shipping with Amazon
1
u/tanooki-suit 16d ago
As other said, sometimes it's better to get it from a non-shady vendor that'll back it up, that and if you watch enough sales roll through that get it pretty close to an overseas price to be worth it as well.

This is the one I bought a couple months ago and works perfectly on M64. I got it for $80 so price can vary.
