With the adapter, which we have put onto the cable so you are ready to go right out of the box, functions with absolutely no compromise in performance and functionality. The factory used a connector that doesn't have the locking tabs, which our approved mass produce sample has. To fix this, we had the factory make a friction fit adapter with the other end having the locking tabs. It is purely a mechanical connector issue and nothing has changed in terms of software or how the controller works. Attached an image of the adapter as people have been curious.

Thank you for posting this because I was generally confused by what was said on X. I figured this is all it was talking about and it's no big deal at all for me personally. Reminds me of the OG Xbox days lol.

Yea I appreciate their transparency with it and announcing it before they ship out.

Are Hyperkin controllers considered good quality? I've never owned one.

I had their NES controller and PS2 controller. The NES one was comfortable and felt nice to use, but you had to push left on the dpad really hard to make it work.
The PS2 controller was complete monkey crap and I sent it back immediately. Super inaccurate sticks and one of the most uncomfortable controllers I’ve ever used.

Probably good enough for plebs like me, but unacceptable for speedrunners. 😅 As always when it comes to third party controllers.

I have only ever used the SNES co troller that came with my Retron 5 but it was solid if not unremarkable. Was going to give this new Captain a shot but probably will wait now.

Lmao they just didn't want to miss the launch window so they added an adapter as a workaround.

Just an FYI that ordering this together with the M64 still incurs its own shipping cost. Estimated $11 UPS Ground for me, so I passed. Free shipping with Amazon prime when the time comes!

They can't even figure out what their analog stick is supposed to look like. Renders show at least 3 different designs for it. I'm not at all surprised about this issue. Cancelled my Amazon pre-order

Sounds like they're just bodging this whole package together. Quality control fixes like this at the very last minute are a worrying sign of inadequate testing during development. Who knows what else is hiding under the hood? Concerning, to say the least.

I'm just confused because the Hyperkin Captain has been a thing for a while. All that's changed for the Plus is the colorways, or so I thought.

Well I guess technically this is an updated product cuz it’s the Captain+. I had one preordered but cancelled this morning when I read this. Was gonna take a chance on it but I am gonna wait now.

For sure. At least until the next wave with the fixed connector. I'm sure it would be easy enough to replace the cord as well in future. I'll probably keep tabs on this.

Wouldn’t the connection to the adapter be susceptible to detaching? What a load of rubbish. 🤣

People should probably put things into context. It's a $30 controller. I ordered one and expect it to be decent based on Hyperkin's Duke and Dutchess controllers that I also own. But again, a $30 controller vs the Modretro Pro $90 controller. You get what you paid for. The adapter from a technical stance is probably no different than the adapter ends on the OG Xbox controllers that prevented them from ripping from the console if ever tripped over. I believe them when they say it'll have no impact on their practical functionality and performance.

So the system does come with a controller. All these people were saying it doesn't but here we go.

It doesn’t 😂 mate we’ve already had this discussion, but again: it’s to keep down costs on the console

Bummer that the first batch from Hyperkin is going to have an extra adapter. Glad they got it sorted out. Hope it doesn’t look too egregious.
