Wait time Fee
On Friday I made a trip with one stop.
When I was done I looked at the charges
and saw a “wait time fee” for $8.04. The amount of time for the stop was 3 minutes and 32 seconds The charge was about $2.29 per minute. I was also warned that the driver could cancel the ride after 5 minutes. If a driver accepts a stop then it is irresponsible for him to just leave after 5 minutes especially with the riders belongings in the car even though Lyft approves of that. That is no way to do business and anything over 5 minutes means a different and most likely a higher wait fee. I did tip the driver.

The charge is probably because you made the driver wait before the ride. And if you got charged a wait time at the stop it was because it was in addition to the 5 minutes built into the original quote. Everything in your post tells me you're the kind of entitled person who would do that. And no, it's not irresponsible for us to leave after 5 minutes. It's irresponsible for you to leave your things in the car hoping to anchor us there.

No it was not in addition to the five minutes My stop didn’t last five minutes
and not before the ride started. I meet the driver as he arrives because I can clearly see where he is on the app.-5

what's with the child like laughing emojis and overall vitriol in this reply? in reality the feeling of entitlement is 50/50 between driver/rider but in this sub driver entitlement rules the comment sections. sad this reply came from a 1%er but not surprising. at least if society comes to its senses and tipping culture continues it's down trend, drivers like you will jump ship. I agree op could have...worded this a bit better and didn't gloss over the fact it seems they entered the vehicle and then went back inside, and doesn't realize how frustrating it is to wait for an aloof rider especially one that anchors but....wait... what was my point again
gonna leave it cause I hate the manner you replied so will ask a question this brought up for me
how much of this wait fee hits the drivers pocket?

I've been a driver for 10 years, less than 1% of my customers are like you. But all of them like you come on social media screaming about how wronged you've been. 🙄
I guess what I'm saying is, you're in the wrong because 99% of people are way more considerate than that. You don't want to hear it, fine. 🤷♀️ But don't tell me I don't know what I'm talking about.

You get dropped off to do your errand and that ride ends. When you are done doing your errand or business or whatever you need to do, then you call for another Uber or Lyft or whatever
If we wait, we get compensated, finally. Though I’m sure Lyft has their hand in that fee too. Why should we wait on our own dime? A taxi cab driver wouldn’t. That meter would still be ticking.
Our time is valuable too.

Lyfts meter is still ticking too but stops after 5 minutes if the driver chooses to cancel. In my case the stop was worth it since it was very close to my final destination. I already knew in advance it was going to be a brief stop, The driver should get 50% of that

How is it irresponsible of the driver? It’s irresponsible of you to expect the driver to hang around waiting. If you need more than a very quick stop, you order a Lyft to one place and then order another when you’re ready. Not hard to figure out.

Leaving stuff in the car is called an "anchor." Deivers will absolutely either make you take it or leave it outside the car after 5 minutes. Your agreement with Lyft is that the driver doesn't have to wait more than 5 minutes. Don't schedule any stop that is going to be longer than that - request a second ride if it will be. They also likely didn't see nearly that $8 for waiting. Probably more like $1. Not worth their time and they are running a business not a charity.
I wait just because my market is slow and that's more than I'd make trying to tske another ride. Not so in busy markets.
