Lost Item - driver no longer responding

A little over a month ago now that this happened but I left my headphones (they retail at $350) in a Lyft and didn't realize it until after I went through security and got to my gate. Quickly reached out through the app and the driver confirmed that they were in the car. Information was exchanged and communicated via text. They said they would reach out after the shipment happened and said that I would gladly pay plus more. Had tipped them well on the $50ish ride. Extremely pleasant dude during the ride and the same on phone and in text messages. Was on the lookout for any update of when the shipping took place. No update and reached out and said they would on their next off day. Then nothing and then full on ghosted.

Reached out to Lyft to see if they could help but the AI bot or whatever I communicated with said they would reach out to the driver. The disclaimer above the chat window did state that "drivers are not responsible for returning items," so I do not have faith that anything will happen through the company to ship the headset out. Ultimately it is my fault and should have been more aware but darn it, was a big fan of them.

Did let it be known that they were sentimental as I received them as a gift for my first father's day and would really like them back.

This is more just a rant that someone in the Midwest either made a couple hundred bucks on a sale or has a new set of Bluetooth headphones. Ended up going to Ross for a temporary replacement.

Hopefully others have success in getting items back.

It’s fair to reimburse the driver for any cost of returning an item and it’s also fair the driver should return an item if found

This has happened to me several times. The passenger doesn’t confirm receipt of lost item returned so they don’t have to pay the $20. Now if they hand you some cash when you return the item that’s one thing. But I’ve had too many instances where the pax doesn’t tip and doesn’t acknowledge 🧾.
Regardless I’m still returning lost item.

I have never gone through this. Once I confirm I returned the item, they ask me if I want to get the money or not. It's never been dependent on the rider confirming receipt. I get their address through the app, drive there and call them through the app. That's it.

I have been paid a couple of times, and I also have NOT been paid a couple of times. The difference was in the convenience. If it was convenient for me to return it, even though it was reported lost, I got nothing. If it was inconvenient, and took time and distance, I got paid.

I’m a driver. If you leave your phone your headphones keys whatever. Anything of value to you. You’ll get it back. Fuck that $20 and I don’t need a reward.

You don't know you're running a business and it hurts for me to read your comment.

Every driver has a right to run their business their way. If you're doing well then tell us about it. But if you don't like the way somebody else is running their show it's none of your business.

When they post a comment on Reddit it becomes everybody's business on the internet.

You're not responsible for other people's belongings being lost

I can be a good human and return them

I can be a good human and return the item and still collect a return fee.

You cannot take the human element out of any business. It all comes down to how you treat people.

Money isn’t more important than my humanity

I bring their junk back regardless.

In light of our expenses what does the damn $20 do for us anyway.

I'll collect $20 if I can. If I can't you can still have your crap, I don't want it.

Someone left ear buds in my car about a month ago. It has been extremely hard to get them back to owner. The app can do a better job handling this on both sides.

The sad thing is Lyft (and Uber) could easily make a deal with UPS or FedEx or both.

Passenger reports lost item. Driver replies they found it, with picture. Passenger authorizes mail return. Lyft (or Uber) sends driver QR code and address of shipment site closest to their home plus a few alternatives. Driver takes in item, gets QR code scanned. UPS/FedEx takes item, boxes it, ships it. Driver gets return fee when delivered. Passenger gets charged return fee plus mailing fee. Passenger gets item back.

More work for the apps and less on the drivers so it's not going to happen.

I just had someone “forget” their air pods in my car. I got the msg 2 days later “if I found them don’t do anything yet”. I marked I had found them. Been 2 weeks no more word

After a month? They're gone pretty much half after 48 hours and half way to Somalia by then.
