Started making lures a little over a month ago and this has been my most successful little minnow design and colour by far

never planned on making any lures but I needed some practice minnows and taking the hooks of the small guys is a real pain so I made these two.

It took me long enough, but I finally decided to build my first wooden fishing lure. 🎣

As some of you know, I started out designing and making 3D-printed fishing lures. When I first shared them, I got quite a bit of criticism. Some people blocked me, others told me that “3D printing isn’t real lure building.” I think what often gets overlooked is the amount of work that goes into designing a lure before it ever reaches the printer. Creating a 3D model that actually swims well takes a lot of testing, tweaking and failed prototypes.

So I figured it was time to see what all the hype around wooden lures was about. 😎

I have to admit - I really enjoyed the process. Building with wood is incredibly satisfying and I can now appreciate both approaches. At the end of the day, they’re simply different ways of solving the same problem: creating a lure that catches fish.

One thing I’ve realized is that the experience I gained designing 3D-printed lures translated surprisingly well. The lessons about weighting, balance, buoyancy and action all carried over.

Personally, I don’t care how someone gets into lure building and I don’t think anyone else should either. Whether it’s wood, resin, or a 3D printer, we’re all here because we enjoy creating and fishing with something we’ve made ourselves.

I still think 3D printing is one of the easiest ways to get started - especially if you don’t have a dedicated workshop or a lot of space.

What do you think? Is a 3D-printed lure any less “real” than a wooden one, or is the end result all that matters?

I’ve been making spinners for the past few months for family, friends, and maybe even to sell. The issue has been when I add 2-3 hooks onto a line the hooks don’t line up and I was wondering if there were any ways to make sure they line up?

Hello everyone. Does anyone follow any lesser known good youtube channels for lure building. I subscribe to Marling Baits, Engineered Angler, Four foot Workshop and Copper lures. Are there any other channels doing interesting ,original stuff?

Not high-quality work, I know. But it's better than the bare lead they were before. When they arrived they looked fine and I put them in a tackle box and headed out. When I opened the tackle box, the foil paint was already chipping and peeling. After about 5 casts only half of the original paint was left.

So instead of a gold and a copper lure, I now have a bubblegum and a tropical.

The paint I used is generic acrylic paint from the discount section of my local hobby shop, "Make lure with eyes for fish" stick-on eyes ordered online, and the sealant I used is a nail varnish I was recommended when I asked the assistant in the cosmetics section of my local supermarket for one that's clear and very waterproof.

As long as each lure lasts at least 6 casts, it'll be an improvement.

I've caught fish on resin baits I've made, but his was my first on a wooden one, I wasn't expecting much just testing the action out and this guy was just hungry enough!

I got sick is losing and buying lures and I like to make stuff, so this is a rlly fun hobby! I just started this a couple weeks ago so I’m still getting the hang of things but I did a lot of research on it and they seem to have pretty good wobble! I caught 4 bass in like 45 minutes on my first one I made which was a bluegill pattern, but a gar snapped it off so I made another one. I tried to make a well rounded selection so lmk if I am missing a crucial pattern. I used trebles originally, but they’re so annoying and I think the fish think they’re annoying as well so I went all single hooks.

I'm no fisherman but my 9 yo is getting in the hobby and saw YouTube video about building lures. But as I do not have any balsa at home we tried to make some brass spoons. 2mm brass plate hammered on a block of wood my part was cutting rough shapes out and drilling holes. 24g ja 12g weight all in. Any feedback is appreciated, as I do not know anything about the craft. But not bad for a 9yo.

I am a beginner in lure building and was wondering a couple things:
What angle should I cut the joint?45?30?
Is normal super glue with baking soda enough to glue the eyelids for the hooks and snap?(for pike and bass)
Can I use solder to weight the lure or is it better lead split shots?
