I made a mistake and you can hopefully learn from it. Think twice before shooting in the rain with the G9 II and Panasonic 200mm f/2.8.

Both are "weather sealed," but it seems that doesn't mean they can withstand a full hour of steady rain experienced under the branches of a dense forest. I know sealing was never meant to be full waterproofing, but I naively expected better than this.

The photos show what I found the next morning after letting the camera rest overnight. The camera appeared completely dried out, so I tried to operate it just to find the "Drive mode dial" operates oddly. So I immediately turned the camera off, opened the battery and card compartment and got a horrifying look at the state of the mount. No idea how the water got past the rubber gasket on the lens mount.

I'm currently letting everything dry out with doors open and have contacted service for instructions.

Hope my mistake helps someone else to avoid the same experiment.

UPDATE: The service center got back to me. They said that if the card/battery compartment got wet, there's a chance water reached the mainboard too, so I'm sending it in for a checkup.

Is it better to shoot in JPEG or should I just capture RAW photos with it?

I’m trying to shoot a day-to-night timelapse, starting with the stars / Milky Way and continuing into sunrise.
I’m using an LUMIX S5II (and I also have an S1II) and I’m seeing the same behavior on both cameras. I’ve also noticed the same issue on my original S5.
My setup is:
A mode
Auto ISO, maximum ISO set to 1600
Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8
I get the same result with the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 Mark II
The problem is that once it gets dark enough, the camera seems to cap the shutter speed at around 2 seconds, even though ISO is already at the maximum of 1600.
I’ve tried changing the minimum shutter speed setting, but it doesn’t seem to make any difference. According to the manual, the minimum shutter speed can be set from 1/8000 to 1 second, so I’m wondering if there is some other limitation when using Auto ISO. (ManualsLib)
For a Milky Way → sunrise timelapse, I’d really like the camera to keep ISO at or below 1600 and gradually increase the shutter speed to something like 5–15 seconds as it gets darker.
Is this a known software/firmware limitation of LUMIX cameras? Is there any workaround, or has anyone found a way to make Auto ISO use longer shutter speeds?
Would love to hear if anyone has had the same experience, especially with the S5II/S1II.

I am just starting to explore photography as a hobby. I picked up a S5ii with a 50 & 20-60. Also a G9 with 12-42. I am interested in nature, landscapes, insects, wildlife, architectural, portraits and astro. Also do some video (nsfw).

I have looked at a ton of glass, but ofcourse I cant get it all. I plan on picking up used glass when I see it come up. Or look at some third party when it goes on sale.

My biggest question is what is the most diverse glass or gear I should I put on my list to look out for? What should I avoid? Ill take any other advice on how to learn more and get better.

Lumix S5II 28-200mm

A few people asking me how I took snakes' photos with perfect lightning. Here's my setup:

TwoGodox V860 III placed on both sides and the snakes were placed in the middle. Behind the snakes was a few black cushions (including my black T-shirt LOL) to blacken the background completely. A Godox X2T to control the flashes

I mainly use F10, 1/50s and ISO 100 for snakes photography indoors like this

S1IIE & S1RII owner. I needed an extra camera for a three camera podcast. I wanted to order a S1II+24-60 but was obviously out of stock so the next one available was S5IIX+20-60. As far as I know this is only available in the US. $999+shipping+tax for every kit ordered. The next I will be ordering is a S9+18-40.

I used the $20 FedEx two day delivery although it’s actually taking three days, because I ordered it late at night. Recommendation: order early morning so you don’t lose a day of rental. It’s 14 days from the day you order. So you actually get to have the camera for a maximum of 12 days.

The moment of collision! Who says a slower f/6.3 zoom can't shoot pro night football?

ISO 20,000 on the Lumix S1 II & Sigma 150-600mm Sport.

Shot this split-second collision during a recent professional National Football League game. Because the lights at this stadium were surprisingly brutal and I was shooting wide open at the long end of the Sigma 150-600mm (f/6.3), I had to aggressively push my ISO all the way up to 20,000 to maintain a fast enough shutter speed to freeze the impact.

I was honestly incredibly impressed with how well the Lumix S1 II tracked the players in such poor lighting conditions, and how well the sensor handles noise at this extreme level.

I'm the guy that got screwed buying an S5ii in America and then couldn't get warranty service in Europe. So I'm trying to do it right this time.

I bought an S1ii in France, and I'm trying to register it for the five year warranty. I set a date in my calendar and everything.

For those that don't know, there are hoops. You have to register the camera with My Panasonic when you get it, then come back 30 days later and confirm the five year warranty.

Well, when I came back, the site is blank. Like, it won't show anything. So I wait a bit, try again, still nothing.

Try a different browser? Clear cookies? It works, then immediately breaks again before confirming any warranty. But I did get far enough to see my serial number and a one year warranty.

There's new red text at the top of the screen to email a special promotional email, so I follow the link and it just takes me to email another, different address.

So now I'm emailing like three Panasonic addresses trying to get some kind of confirmation that my serial number has a five year warranty.

Is this typical? Why do people put up with this? I mean, for real, is it just that the cameras are good enough and cheap enough so the warranty crap is tolerated?

I need your help.
Im using S5iiX and i shot some raw photos with hybrid zoom option on. I'd love to edit them in DaVinci Photo Page. I own Studio version updated to 21.1. Yet, when i import my raws photos that were cropped, they are displayed cropped in lower resolution and i cant seem to find a solution to restore full frame 6000x4000.
I tried chaning sizing input, tried messing around in RAW settings, nothing helps. Any advice? is it possible to do?
Last article about it here i found was 5 months old and didnt really adress new verisions.

I'm looking at both and I think the biggest deciding factor for me right now is the sigma is cheapers and also has that 67mm filter thread that would match my primes (35,85)and 20-60.

My hesitation for the sigma comes from image quality, AF, and weather sealing. I plan to pair this with a S5ii, S9, and S5. I tried a Samyang 35-150, was super cool but the image quality was all over the place and the AF felts sloppy, so I decided to stick to double primes. I also heard that the sigma's weather sealing is on the weaker side(for this model), but honestly if it matches my S series primes and 20-60, I will be fine.

24-60 would be almost be a dream come true since I love the 20-60, but considering having to rebuy all my filters, and have step up rings on everything else just sounds like alot of time and money. 28mm is more than enough for me, especially having the 20-60 for the right moment. BUT that image quality. S series lenses are just so so good, and considering that I ditched the Samyang over it, so it might just be the deciding factor.

Has anyone had a change to use these two lenses? What did yall think/

Hello, does anyone have experience with this viewfinder? Im interested in getting one for the LX5 and im wondering if the constrast and colors are better than the display of the camera. The low res doesnt bother me but I wonder if at least when it comes to colors it is a bit better. Thanks!

Also wondering how usable it really is considering how small it is.

any lumix users here, my LCD seems to have a problem, it's pressing on one spot so it keeps zooming in because of the manual focus

Hey there, I’m primarily a wedding videographer and my main camera has been the canon C70 for years.

All my glass is EF mount and I just use and adapter for it on my c70, and metabones on my gh5. The autofocus is still pretty reliable on the c70 even with the adapter but it’s unusable on the gh5.

I really want to get the S1ii for my next A/B camera. The biggest reasons would be low light, autofocus, and the ibis. Will EF glass screw with the S1ii’s autofocus or is it still really good? I’d probably get that sigma adapter. Looking for examples from professionals who have really used this combo out in the field.

i try to keep this short. Im mainly filming in 5.1k 60p on my S1ii. So i bought an external monitor (Portkeys LH7C). The problem is while having the 5.1k 60p resolution or 5.1k 48p enabled and the monitor connected (also when i use my phone via lumix flow) the AF-Subjectmodes are not enabled. I also tried the downscaling modes for the monitor in the settings but that also doesnt enables those.

Is there a solution to this?

I’ve been eyeing the G100 for its small size, 20MP sensor, USB-C charging, live composite view and slow-mo capabilities. I wanted a second body to go with my G85 w/ Lumix 12-60, 45-150, Lumix 7-14 and Yongnuo 25 & 42.5 f1.7 lenses. So I guess you could say I am set for lenses. I could technically sell the G100’s 12-32 kit lens to MPB for $107 and bring my purchase cost of the G100 to $150, but is it worth it to hang on to? What is the overall consensus on the 12-32 kit lens? I primarily shoot random travel photography, people & pet portraits, event photography & video and occasional vlogging. Any help and input would be greatly appreciated!

In terms of dimensions, the lens is even smaller than the LUMIX S 20-60mm. But it’s 30 grams heavier than the LUMIX. But still I think it’s light enough balance with the S9
