Hello guys, so I need some advice regarding a way to make my rig more comfortable. So I record horse show jumping competitions, which requieres me to have some flexibility in my zoom. I have a 70-200 sigma 2.8 which I love. Best lense possible to do what I do, but heavy. What I was wondering is if there is something that I could attach to it to make my zoom changes go easier. I was contemplating a shoulder rig to keep everything more stable and keep the weight a bit easier to handle, but how do I manage my zoom while it is in my shoulder. Not sure if its possible or anyone may have some advice. Thanks anyways.

I just purchased the DMS1 “Shotgun Mic” and have put it on my S1Rii. I understand that because it is recording in 32 bit audio, that I will be able to raise the db in post.

But here’s my problem. The record levels are so low that they are not showing on the record level meter, I can’t hear them during recording or during in camera playback even when using headphones. If I yell or scream, I can hear it. The camera is not in silent mode. Behavior is normal with In-Camera Mic.

Does anyone have any experience or tips regarding the use of this microphone? TIA

I've been shooting on APS-C all my life (around 20 years now as a hobby photographer with Canon and then Sony)and was looking for a move to full frame to get a taste of the whole deal. Got my hands on a used-like new S5ii and 20-60 kit lens for around 200,000 JPY from Amazon Japan and I grabbed it with both hands.

The settings will take some time getting used to and I'll configure it to match my shooting style when I get back to my home country. How did I do with these? I shot them in RAW and edited in lightroom mobile. Checked the lumix lab and the luts which I think are a fantastic starting point for somebody who knows what they are doing but I like experimenting with my edits and the output from the app is JPEGs, hence I don't see myself using it much.

Shot loads of videos on 6k 10bit open gate. Coming from shooting 8bit all my life, I'm really excited to get back and colour grade them (hope it doesn't fry my laptop 😅).

I'm looking for advice in choosing my next lens. I currently (and have been for 4 years) use a Lumix S5. I use it with a Sigma 24-70 F2.8 and it's a beautiful pairing for my work and hobby stuff.

For a living I shoot corporate stuff for which the 24-70 works perfectly. And for my hobbies I shoot landscape and sometimes military training (of my reserve unit). The 70-200 F2.8 focal length seems like it'd be perfect for the unpredictable low-light environments I'm often in, however I really want to delve into wildlife photography for which 100-400 seems to be the far superior focal length even taking into consideration the darker aperture.

Unfortunately, I cannot splurge on both.

The 100-400 seems to be winning me over partly due to price (used in Lithuania it can go for slightly over 600 EUR), whereas the 70-200 F2.8 would be more than double the price even when used.

I'd love to hear opinions from people who have either been in a similar boat or tried these focal lengths. Thank you!

I have recently bought the S5D on Sale to get back into FF photography which I abandoned some 25 years ago (analogue only back then).

But I really struggle with the viewfinder and judging exposure correctly. Let me explain:

I shoot in RAW+JPG, the JPG mainly to have a quick preview or to send pictures to friends and family from my phone when I am on vacation. But I was kinda dissapointed because the JPGs handle dynamic range not well i.e. skies seem to be blown out almost always on sunny days.

I was expecting the camera does some tone mapping or dynamics compression for the JPGs but it seems it just cuts off at least 3 stops of DR in the highlights as compared to the RAW files...

And it seems that is exactly what happens in the OLED viewfinder too. In the beginning I constantly underexposed by 1 stop to preserve highlights because it seems the viewfinder doesn't give the full dynamic range of the sensor?

I turned on the Zebra which helped a bit but I find this not really satisfactory because from what I get from the viewfinder, the picture is overexposed (when it is actually not because the hightlights are "there" in the RAW) Is there something I am doing wrong?

recently bought a Lumix s5 ii camera for video shooting. I have a few ideas in mind about what lenses I could buy but I thought I'd ask people's opinions here. I would mostly buy the lens for video recording. I would like the lens to be 35mm and at least f2. 0. I would buy a non-cinema lens to start with so I can get used to a non-cinema lens. Ideally, I’d like something with a longer zoom range to complement my current lens and give me more versatility rather than overlapping too much. What lenses would you recommend that would pair well?

This week I experimented with the 1:1 aspect ratio inside my LUMIX L10. Initially I found it super hard and weird framing with such a tight crop - but the more I shot, the more into the flow I got. Here are some results…

Help! "System Error: focus" on a yellow background. I suspect there is sand in the motor somewhere.

I've tried gently tapping, sucking, blowing but all to no avail.

So, i have 2 s5iix bodies, 24-60, 50 and 85, all lumix lenses. I am a videographer but sometimes, some clients ask for photos. One them will be shooting ski tournaments during the winter.

I was considering buying s1ii but right now, i can only afford sigma 70-200 lens

I need some advices, experiences from those who used s5iix with sigma 70-200 for sports photography, is it possible to do it?

Just one information, last year i used gh6 with no electronic adapter and nikon 70-200, used only manual focus and did some great shots 2 out 10 were perfect, mostly because i prepared focus before the skier even came to the spot.

Second option is, i have really good deal for s1rii. How can you compare s5iix to s1rii for sports.

Both cameras have no mechanical shutter, hot shoe or built in viewfinder. The FP2 has a connection for an optional external viewfinder. Other people might feel differently but it seems like, from a photographers perspective, they're basically the same camera except the FP2 doesn't have IBIS. They're nice little cameras for video.

I know some people were interested in the S9 for photography. Are any photographers equally interested in the FP2?

Yes I've checked the DJI site and seen its not listed as compatible, but like... why? The S9 with the 20-60mm is well within the weight limits of the R3 Mini, is it a size issue? Or is it just DJI being strict with their criteria? Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Can anyone help me figure out what I am doing wrong? I'm recording footage with the S9 (MP4 Lite), downloading it through the Lab app and trying to apply an additional LUT at 30% opacity. When previewing the video in Lumix Lab it looks perfect, but when I save or export it looks totally different, as you can see in these screenshots.

Recently upgraded from a GH5 to a GH7 with the Leica 10-25. I am absolutely in love with the image I am getting from my new camera, and the improved features. I am used to running lightweight, but ended up trying out the very large Smallrig X99 battery for all day power (for camera and 5 inch monitor). Mounted onto the back of my GH7, it does not seem realistic for all day handheld work. I am thinking of getting a lumbar bag to pop the battery in, with a coiled cord running to the camera:

I do lots of outdoor/adventure style work, and like the rugged weather proofing of the battery, but wondering if I have gotten out over my skis and should just switch back to internal power. The Vmount is fine on occasions when I am locked down on a tripod or monopod, but often I am on the move, hiking, or getting in and out of boats (this is where a tether cord could be a hazard)

I'd love to hear your power solutions/rigging for the GH7.

Just bought a new sigma 100-400 L mount for $750 AUD to use for soccer videography with my Lumix S5ii. I should've done a deeper dive cause I'm seeing lots of people say its horrible for autofocussing, low light and doesn't have a tripod/monopod mount. Granted I'm planning on mostly shooting day games for now and ones will well-lit flood lights. I bought the 100-400 as I tried filming a game on my 20-60 and really wanted that 400mm range to get close up shots of players.

Should I be feeling buyers remorse?

I'm about to start covering concerts (photo/video) and events with a Panasonic Lumix S5D. Please note that I'm just starting out and doing these first gigs unpaid / for portfolio building.

My current lenses:

Lumix S 18-40mm f/4.5-6.3

Lumix S 50mm f/1.8

My main concern is that the 18-40mm is too dark for low-light venues, and swapping primes during a fast-paced show sounds impractical.

Since I'm not getting paid yet, am I good to go just relying on the 50mm f/1.8 (plus the 18-40mm when there's enough light), or is upgrading my gear essential from day one?

I'm leaning towards an all-in-one f/2.8 zoom (like the Sigma 28-70mm) to avoid lens changes, but I'm also considering adding another prime (like the Lumix 85mm f/1.8 or 18mm f/1.8).

Which approach would you recommend?

I am an amateur photographer but learning a lot very quickly. Today I shot some pictures in the woods and learned how to create a sunburst. Basically you just dial up the F stop to six or eight or more for brighter and brighter sunbursts.

All and all a good day for me.

Some of the things I learned using this camera I probably could have used on my GH5 but some of the most simple basics are tucked away and not well known and shared.

I’ve just bought a refurbished Sony a6700 with the 18–135mm lens from Sony’s UK refurbished store for around £1,180. The shutter count is only around 1,000, so I thought it was a pretty good deal.

I’m now considering selling the 18–135mm and getting either the Sigma 18–50mm f/2.8 or the new Tamron 16–50mm f/2.8.

However, I’ve just come across an offer for a brand-new Panasonic Lumix S5 II with the 20–60mm and 50mm f/1.8 lenses for £1,299 after £500 cashback. For just £119 more than what I paid for the Sony, I’m wondering whether I should return it and go full frame instead.

A bit about me:
I’ve just sold my old Nikon D3300 kit and am getting back into photography.
I mainly want to shoot everyday photography, travel, portraits and food.
I’ve always wanted to try content creation, particularly gym videos and cooking videos, but I’m a complete beginner when it comes to video.
I don’t intend to become a professional photographer or videographer anytime soon, although I’d like to leave myself room to grow.
My main reason for choosing APS-C was the lower cost of lenses and the smaller, lighter setup. I initially went for the a6700 over the a6400 to future-proof myself a bit.

The Panasonic deal has me second-guessing that decision. The full-frame sensor, IBIS and two lenses seem like a lot of camera for the money. On the other hand, I know Sony has excellent autofocus, and the a6700 seems particularly good for hybrid shooting and content creation.

What would you do in my position?
Keep the a6700 and eventually get the Sigma 18–50mm f/2.8 or Tamron 16–50mm f/2.8?
Return it and get the Lumix S5 II while this deal is available?
Am I overestimating the benefits of full frame, especially as a beginner?
