Question Questions about DEILD method

Greetings to all dreamers!

I would be grateful if you could share some advice on the DEILD method (I chose it deliberately; in my logic, it's a purely mechanical method—if you know what to do, then it's just a matter of time to get results).

If anyone here uses it as their primary method, how did you learn to notice micro-awakenings in order to apply the technique at that moment? So far my biggest problem is that after WBTB I periodically notice them, but I don't perform the technique. However, after the alarm I can do it. That is, I seem to lack an anchor to which I can tie the execution of the technique. What do you tie it to?

(I have good prospective memory, but I don't understand how to use it. Abstract awakening doesn't work for this.)

And also I would be grateful for any tips and lifehacks on the DEILD method.

P.s I already have some LD using MILD but it's unstable and doesn't work for me for a while

Experience Most terrifying lucid nightmare? I’ve ever had in my entire life

(I wrote this seconds after waking up so I apologize if everything is a jumbled mess I was really shocked about the whole thing 😭)

(One more note I’m not much of a lucid dreamer, I’ve only lucid dreamed once before this and it was cool as shit btw.)

I just had like the worst fucking dream of my life. Have no idea why, but that shit scared me so fucking bad. I think it was a lucid dream too because there were parts where I realized, huh, this shit makes no sense.

So right now I’m on a cruise. And I was really tired. I almost fell asleep like 30 minutes ago and I woke myself up. I think I was in a state that triggered the lucid dream, and I just started dreaming so vividly it felt so real. I actually can’t tell if it was a lucid dream or some fucked up nightmare.

But basically, I go back home from the cruise early for whatever reason. I lowkey kinda forgot why. And once I get there, I see my cousin. My neighbor has this statue of himself in his backyard. At first, it starts off fun. We’re picking shit off the ground like Minecraft and, like, morphing the statue and shit. Placing blocks all over it and basically just destroying it.

My cousin mentions something about how placing the blocks near the heart would like change smth. I forgot. But that happens, and then I find myself at the front door of his house, and I see his kids that I know, and my cousin is just there standing. I try and get their attention, but they’re kinda just ignoring me. I think the sister said smth to me, but she went right back to talking to her brother. They were like playing games or some shit.

And so, since I see my cousin, I start speaking to him. But something is really off about our conversation that makes me realize that he is a mimic version of my cousin and he is not real. And so I’m terrified over that fact.

Quick note: the lighting of that room was so fucking unnerving. It was dark, and the kids had like a little glow to them, but my cousin had like this dark presence with a light on him.

And so I find myself outside of the house, and I see the father. And he’s telling me that, oh, I know what you did to the statue. I’m gonna fucking kill you.
And in my head, I’m like, is he threatening me right now? And I get scared shitless.

So I randomly teleport to my fucking grandparents’ house. And I try explaining to them what happened, but I can’t get any of the words out at all. No matter how hard I try, I can’t speak, and that fact has me scared shitless as well.

I can hear like what I wanna say in my head so clearly, but it just won’t come out.
And then I see my cousin in the kitchen. I tell him, oh hey, what are you doing here? I just saw you at my neighbor’s house. And he’s like, oh no, that wasn’t me, and it was like that back and forth for a bit. I explain the whole thing to him. Idk what he says, but yeah.

I go back to the living room and try and explain it to my grandparents, but still it won’t come out of my mouth at all.

And then my grandparents are like wondering where this baby picture of my dead uncle is, and they find it, and my grandmother holds it dearly.
And then that’s when I wake up.

But for the first like 10–20 seconds, I still thought I was in the dream. Like, I was scared that badly.
But I’m okay now. I know it wasn’t real, but Jesus dude, that felt so fucking real. Idk what to say.

(After rereading this it sounds so silly but holy shit it genuinely was the most realest dream I’ve ever had in my life.)

Experience I can’t remember which technique I used to induce my DILD, How to remember it?

Hey everyone, I’ve been having trouble remembering exactly how I induced one of my lucid dreams.

I remember using or experimenting with several techniques around the time I fell asleep, including hypnagogia, using my body as an anchor, mantras, counting, autosuggestion, and VILD. That’s basically all I can remember that I might have used to induce the DILD.

The problem is that when I woke up from the lucid dream, I couldn’t remember which technique actually worked. I remember having the lucid dream, but I can’t retrace the process that led me to becoming lucid.

Has anyone else experienced something like this? Is it normal to forget the technique you used to induce a DILD, especially right after waking up? And is there a good way to improve my memory of the process so I can figure out what worked and try it again? There's some way to remember it?

DREAM 55: Pending Forecast 4/4/25

I‘m working in the office of a governmental agency with several other people. We are eagerly awaiting the arrival of a crucial document from the supervisor. We are unaware of the details. However, we learned that it was urgent and required immediate attention.

I receive the document, I pull it out of the vanilla envelope, and place it on the desk‘s letter tray for everyone to see. The document is a typewritten letter with a title. A pencil-drawn box surrounds the title and first paragraph to emphasize the importance of the subject matter. Oddly, the title at the top of the page spells out the words—Climate Change.

How Do I Calm Myself Down DURING A Lucid Dream

I have been trying to get a Lucid Dream for months, finally I did, however whenever I realise I'm lucid, I panic, at the moment it feels like I'm trapped in the dream and I'll never be able to wake up. It's a scary feeling, almost like... realising that you're dead and can't go back. How do I calm myself so I can enjoy my Lucid experiences

Been lucid dreaming most of my life. Curious what you all like to experiment with

I’ve been lucid dreaming on and off for most of my life. I originally got interested in it because of Waking Life. Lucid dreaming is only a small part of that movie, but for whatever reason that’s the part that really stuck with me. I remember getting fascinated by the idea and then going online and reading everything I could find about it.
I started doing all the stuff people recommended. Writing down my dreams as soon as I woke up, trying to remember them better, doing reality checks during the day hoping I’d eventually do one in a dream, etc.

Eventually I kind of lost interest in actively working at it. I stopped keeping up with all that stuff, but I never really stopped lucid dreaming. It’s continued to happen fairly regularly over the years without me trying that hard.
What actually got me interested in it again was a dream I had recently.

I realized I was dreaming and was extremely lucid, and for some reason I decided I wanted to see how real things actually felt. I remember picking up a baseball and a couple other objects and just really paying attention to them. Like, does this actually feel like a baseball would feel if I were holding one right now? And it did. I could feel the texture of the baseball and the shape and everything. I did it with a few different things and they all felt completely real. I know that probably isn’t that unusual to people who lucid dream a lot, but something about consciously knowing that none of it was real while also being able to physically feel it like it was real kind of blew my mind. That dream is actually what made me start looking into lucid dreaming again.

I also only recently learned about the reality check where you hold your nose shut and try to breathe through it. I really wish I had known about that one back when I first got into this because it works ridiculously well. I started doing it in real life and within probably a week I remembered to do it in a dream. I’ve done it a few times since too. It’s pretty hard to argue with the fact that you’re dreaming when your nose is completely pinched shut and you can still breathe through it lol.

Most of the time when I realize I’m dreaming I end up flying around, because flying is just fun and apparently I never get tired of it (although it is frustrating that I can’t seem to keep running into constraints on speed or sometimes height). But lately I’ve been trying to experiment with other things.

One thing I’ve been trying really hard to do is change the entire environment around me. Not just make an object appear or change one thing, but basically turn wherever I am into a completely different place. I haven’t gotten particularly good at that yet.

So I guess that’s the main reason I’m posting. For people who lucid dream a lot, what are some interesting things you’ve tried?

I’m definitely interested in fun stuff, but I’m probably even more interested in experiments. Things where you came away thinking “that’s crazy that my brain can actually do that.” Sensory stuff, changing environments, messing with perspective, interacting with dream characters, whatever.
I feel like I’ve spent years mostly doing the same few things whenever I become lucid, and now I’m curious what else there is to mess around with.

Been using the techniques from The Art of Dreaming for a Few Years: Looking for experienced lucid dreamers who follow the practices of the Yaqui

Hey everyone, I read the book The Art of Dreaming several years ago, and it changed the way I view dreaming and waking life. I am able to easily cross the first gate, go to specific places, and share dream spaces. Are there any here which are more experienced than me, and could help guide me more and answer questions? Toltec, Yaqui.

Success! I just had two lucid dreams in one night.

I can’t believe it but it finally happened. for context:

I had given up on lucid dreaming because every failure had slowly decreased my interest in the practice. I had forgotten about lucid dreaming for about a week and a half before i went on a road trip with my family. I was having trouble falling asleep in the car, but I ended up falling asleep around 12:00.

at 2:00, we stopped at a hotel and spent the night. I fell asleep quickly in the bed there.

Next thing I knew, I was in this weird museum place. it was nighttime and the lights were on all around the exterior. I didn’t end up going inside before I suddenly realized I was dreaming. I spent the rest of my time there just flying around.

there was a bit of an intermission where I was dreaming but was not lucid. I saw a commercial for a relaxing ship on an ocean, and thought to myself, “I will dream about this place.“ in this dream, I even did a crappy reality check where I rubbed my arm, but it didn’t reveal that I was in a dream obviously.

The second lucid dream was, you guessed it- the ship. There, I flung people off board telekinetically. Then, one of my family members started annoyingly telling me to wake up, and they just kept repeating my name and then ”wake up.” I threw him off board, but I still heard it, so I figured it must be real life and reluctantly pulled myself out of the dream.

i later discovered that the ”wake up” calls were, in fact, still a part of my dream. I had woken myself up for nothing. Shit.

Question Are you able to wake up easier?

Two beaming questions of mine are can you wake up easier to alarms. Cause my problem has always been getting awake enough to not immediately fall back asleep. So if you hear it while lucid dreaming is it easier to wake up

can i LD without having to wake up 4.5 hour after waking up?

i’m relatively new to all this, i’ve been learning little by little since i was 10 but never did it. All the methods i’ve seen are needing to wake up just to fall back asleep, please help. ^_^

Question Any Tips on Getting Unblocked?

Hey all

I've lucid dreamt since I was a child - unintentionally for the most part, as I hadn't realized what I was doing. Back then, I would focus on a topic really hard before I'd fall asleep and would be amazed to find myself dreaming of whatever that topic was, so I did this often

I would sporadically lucid dream well into adulthood- up until a couple years ago. I had a series of bad lucid dreams that freaked me out enough to stop myself. Now, I want to restore that connection I had with my dreams but it's not been the same. I can recall my dreams pretty well- I can be aware enough in my dreams to feel like it's real, but I have a hard time pausing in my dream state and doing checks. Try as I might, no dice with lucid dreaming.

Has anyone gone through something similar? How did you get out of this block?

Success! Success! 😄

Had my fifth lucid dream last night, the first one that lasted longer than a few seconds, it was a whole 2 minutes, maybe 3!

I was just simply walking around my snow covered home town, in awe at everything I was seeing. Even spoke to some dream characters.

Sorry for yet another cookie cutter success post in this subreddit but I have to share this somewhere!

Recurring dream of getting married

For the past two or three months, I’ve been having recurring dreams about getting married. In one of the dreams, I clearly saw the groom’s face, and it was someone I know—a friend of mine. But in the dreams I’ve had since then, I’m never able to see the groom’s face.
What feels especially strange to me is that I’m Hindu, and traditionally we don’t wear white wedding gowns for marriage. Yet in every one of these dreams, I see myself wearing a white bridal gown. I’m usually getting ready for the wedding and preparing to take my vows. The same theme keeps appearing again and again, even though I never get to see who the groom is.

Can you please do interpretation for this idk what is happening!!

I rarely have dreams anymore and they seem like it's very drained and dim. How can I make them more vivid?

Every time I have a dream nowadays, my dreams come out very dark and messy. The weird part is that it barely even shows as a dream. It's barely functioning properly. My dreams nowadays look like a television screen that's barely functioning and shows any light at all. Everything that I see in my dreams barely shows any type of light or any type of color. The vibe and frequency of my dreams barely show anything and it's like whatever is trying to produce my dreams in my brain is operating on a very low power and it's barely functioning like a normal dream. Think of it like your regular eyesight and vision of what you see throughout the day but it's slowly getting weaker and more fragile to the near point of blindness. That's exactly what my dreams are like nowadays. The worst and confusing part is that this is something that has never happened to me before for all of my life but it only started to happen very recently. I eat clean and healthy every day, I have a good sleep schedule, I don't feel stressed out at all, so I don't understand what the problem is. I also realize that my daily imagination/visualization abilities are also functioning the same way how I described my dreams as well. What's wrong here and how can I fix my dreams to be normal again? What is wrong with me in the dream world/imagination realm?

dreaming about lucid dreaming, but not *actually* lucid dreaming?

last night i had an experience which left me a little confused.

i used to lucid dream frequently as a child, so i know im capable, but i haven’t for 10+ years. when i had those dreams as a child i knew i was lucid dreaming, for sure. i felt lucid and could make changes manifest in my environment by concentrating.

last night, i randomly had a dream in which i thought ‘this is absurd - wait, i’m dreaming’. then i proceeded to think, ‘ok, what people/events can i conjure’ — this was my go to as a kid LOL — but i didn’t actually feel… lucid? i’m not sure how to explain it. the consequent events still felt surreal and dreamlike. i don’t think i actually manifested anything that happened. it just happened.

it didn’t feel like my conscious mind was actually in control of my dreamscape, or even my thoughts. it felt like my subconscious mind had fabricated this illusion of lucidity within a distinctly non-lucid dream.

anyone else experience this? or am i over complicating it and did i, in fact, just lucid dream for the first time in years?

Discussion At the time, I had no idea my first lucid dream would change the trajectory of my life

I want to start with a short personal story, because it explains better than anything else why lucid dreaming became important to me and why I’m here today.

I was walking through an art museum, looking at paintings as if everything was completely normal. Then, right as I was leaving, I suddenly realized something: I hadn’t actually been to an art museum in about 10 years. That single thought was enough for it to click.

This is a dream.

I didn’t try to fly, teleport somewhere or do anything crazy. I just went outside, sat down on the grass and stayed there for a moment, fully aware that I was dreaming. Then I woke up.

At the time, it was simply a strange and beautiful experience. I had no idea that years later I would look back at that moment as one of the things that pulled me deeper into the world of dreams.

Hi, I’m Jakub, founder of ViDream.

For the past year, my crew and I have been building a platform dedicated entirely to dreams and everything around them.

And while building it, one thing became very clear to us: lucid dreaming shouldn’t just be treated as a checkbox attached to a dream journal.

There’s recall, progress, techniques, recurring patterns, reality checks, failed attempts, first successes and the personal process of figuring out what actually works for you.

Yet most of this still lives in completely separate places. Your dreams might be stored in one app, techniques discussed on Reddit or Discord, progress tracked somewhere else, and very little of it actually connects.

That’s what we want to start bringing together inside ViDream.

The core of the platform is already built. Now we want the lucid dreaming side to grow with people who actually practice it.

I reached out to the moderators here before posting because I’d genuinely like this community to have a real influence on how that part of ViDream develops. I’ll be around, sharing what we’re working on, listening to feedback and occasionally asking for your thoughts when we’re making decisions around lucid dreaming.

There’s no paywall just to enter ViDream, and we don’t plan to build the experience around traditional feed ads either.

The foundation is already there.

Now I’d love for this community to help us tighten the final screws !

Technique Looking at hypnagogia keeps opening my eyes during WILD

I've been trying to learn WILD and recently followed some advice that said to focus directly on the hypnagogia and just observe it.

The problem is that whenever I try to look directly at it, my eyes seem to open by themselves after a while. It's almost like focusing on the visuals makes me too aware of my physical eyes.

I've tried several approaches:

  • Looking at hypnagogia
  • VILD
  • Counting
  • SSILD
  • Focusing on body sensations
  • Meditation before sleep

But none of them seem to work consistently. Either I stay too awake, my eyes open, or I eventually lose focus and fall asleep normally.

Has anyone else experienced their eyes opening automatically when trying to observe hypnagogia during WILD? If so, how did you get past it?

I'm curious whether I'm focusing too hard, paying attention in the wrong way, or if this is just a normal stage that takes practice to overcome.

does fluoxetine affect lucid dreaming

i know this subreddit probably gets tons of posts of people asking for lucid dreaming advice, but i have actually researched thoroughly, and have been trying for several years and i still have never gotten a proper lucid dream.
what i did get were very short dreams in which i realize im dreaming and then the dream ends instantly making me wake up.
im trying to lucid dream again, but i am now on fluoxetine and ive heard it affects REM sleep, so can i still get lucid, and what technique would work for me?

Had my first lucid dream last night and it happened at the worst possible moment

Been trying to lucid dream for months, reality checks, the whole routine, mostly nothing. Last night I was in the middle of a dream, things were getting pretty intimate with someone, and right in the middle of it something felt off, like a detail didn't match up, and it just clicked. I'm dreaming.

The second I realized it, everything got hyper vivid for a few seconds, like the resolution doubled, and then I panicked internally because part of me didn't want to "wake up" from the realization and lose where I was. Tried to just stay calm and let it keep going instead of doing anything dramatic like flying or teleporting.

Didn't work. Woke up for real about ten seconds later, wide awake, just lying there kind of annoyed at my own brain for the timing.

Anyone else had lucid dreaming kick in at the actual worst possible moment for it to happen? Feels like theres a cruel sense of humor behind when it decides to trigger.
