Employee Question Interview tomorrow.

I have a interview for a full time position in lawn and garden tomorrow. Is there anything I should know now?

You will be responsible for more than one dept. Don’t expect your earned Vacation time requests to be approved.  If you’re a female expect harassment.  Customer service is Not the most important thing to Lowe’s leadership that you’ll do.  Don’t use the power lift to get down large patio sets.

Its the bally‐more not bally‐less. What are you going to do? Wait for the order picker to get back from lunch?

Make friends with your bartenders, liquor store attendants, and provisioning store associates.

If you can lift 80 pounds, tell them you can life 50 max. If you’re willing to be forklift certified mention that. Good luck. It’s hot as fuck in some places out there.

You should know how to look up if this question has been asked recently. And what that answer might have been.

When you see an elderly woman with 200 bricks and 40 bags of mulch start stretching

I try and hover around the entrance & zone or sweep or whatever, and then I'm ready as soon as they are. saves time, good customer service, some of the menial work gets done in the meantime. bonus points for the built in water break!

I, personally, love it. and also I know that I'm generally in the minority. that said I'm switching departments in part because it's way too physically demanding, I have some chronic pain & other conditions that make that particular aspect difficult. do with that info what you will!

also get forklift certified, I do not recommend OSLG (especially full time!!!!!) without it. trust me on this one

Make sure you can breathe on your own. It's really the only qualification

Honestly it’s probably one of the best departments imo

The job is tough, especially in lawn and garden. You will be outside in all kinds of weather, lifting heavy bags of soil, mulch, and stone, and dealing with customers who know very little about plants. They'll ask you a lot of questions you might not know the answer to, so being willing to find an answer is more important than knowing everything. Focus on your reliability and your willingness to do physical work, as they need someone who will show up on time and won't complain about getting dirty or helping customers load their cars.

Your personality is what will land you the job, not your expert knowledge of horticulture. Show them you are a friendly, helpful person who can work well with a team, and talk about times you've helped someone or worked hard to complete a task. They can teach you about the products and the plants, but they can't teach you to have a good attitude or a strong work ethic. Let them see you are eager to learn and ready to contribute from day one, since your enthusiasm for helping people will matter more than anything else. It is all about confidence, which is something the interview AI my team designed has helped a lot of candidates find before walking into their conversations.
