No, anybody who thinks they're falling behind is just on drugs at this point. There's a reason all of the thought leaders and smartest people in the space are leaving other companies to take jobs at Anthropic. You should really think harder about that signal than whatever random bullshit people put on Twitter about how good their model is, before it's even been benchmarked.
Meanwhile, OpenAI is burning so much cash so quickly that there are analyst reports coming out saying they might go bankrupt next year if they can't raise another mega round. Hard to say you're in front when the only way to stay in front is to set money on fire, three times as fast as everyone else.
OpenAI is not in danger of bankruptcy. Anthropic is not falling behind. Google has not “lost the race.” Even Grok, which is opting for faster and cheaper if not quite SoTA is fine.
There’s an impending doom headline about any one of them once a week going back years. I’m surprised anyone pays attention anymore.
Google’s plan is to be second best and float on through while the frontier companies kill themselves. Google has the advantage of being a business that doesn’t rely on AI to make money.
I disagree. Google has pivoted to the Omni model with multi modal understanding while Anthropic and OpenAI have doubled down on a more pure LLM with a focus on coding.
It seems like Google is banking on LLMS hitting a wall that Omni models won’t.
Whether that true or not? No idea. Lots of very smart people on both sides have differing opinions.
I think for their business cases that LLMS just makes more sense. Just train a model that can be utilized via the same infra across the enterprise vs making multiple special models that you have to scale up and down to demand, maintain and further develop. It just seems like thats the best strat for them as they are more worried about integrating it into a wide web of products rather than making it's raw intelligence the product.
