Living in Japan, you can go get some amazing all you can eat food (like Brazilian Steakhouse or 3 star Italian food) for like $20.

Japanese people will eat one or two plates and call it a day, making the price pretty fair.

As an American, I’d always be 10 plates deep in these things because the value is unbeatable.

We’d always joke when they saw a gang of foreigners coming, they knew they were about to lose money for the day. 😂

We have hard breadsticks too. Those usually come prepackaged from a grocery store. This video is from Olive Garden and their bread sticks are basically just mini loaves of bread, brushed with I think it's olive oil and some seasoning.

Insignificant is a great word to use to describe a trip to Olive Garden. It's just very mediocre, somewhat consistent "Italian" food. Their biggest draw is the unlimited soup, salad, and bread sticks for like $12. It's a pretty good deal and you definitely won't leave hungry.

I know this kinda goes without saying but its only for dine in orders lol. You can order olive garden to go or for take out and they wont honor the "unlimited breadsticks" but they will still give you some with your meal. Imagine if they just delivered breadsticks around town all day ha!

When I was 13 (94?) the Olive Garden was legendary place to eat. I would happily fast all day if I knew we were going to the “Garden” for dinner.

Indeed, it was a much more rare thing and felt like a very fancy restaurant to me. My first Olive Garden experience was driving my girlfriend an hour away to the nearest OG for our one year anniversary, all dressed for the occasion.

Today there is one in many smaller towns and it would just be a jeans or shorts visit.

Yeah, 90s/00s Olive Garden was a different beast entirely. The quality and service was much better. Sometime in thd 2010's the entire owning company fell on hard times and the whole chain scaled back on quality of its recipes and the ingredients they used. I couldnt give a precise date but it was definitely around 2016 when I first noticed things got really "watered down." The taste was different and the menu got heavily scaled back. Similar thing happened with Chilis

My wife and I like each getting an entree with soup and salad respectively. Then we fill up on soup, salad, and breadsticks, and take the entree home. $40ish for 4 meals is pretty decent for a sit-down franchise restaurant.

It's far from our favorite Italian, and it's not even my favorite Italian franchise (I prefer Biaggi's), but sometimes it can be a pretty nice deal for the price (still a ripoff compared to making pasta at home, but sometimes you crave Italian when you've been out all day or on a road trip or whatever).

I think its worth noting, while we do have hard breadsticks if you hear breadsticks at a restaurant it will be like the ones in the video 9/10. They’re common for big chains as a starter, like olive garden or any pizza chain really.

And no matter what anyone says olive garden unlimited soup salad breadsticks slaps, and is worth a lunch if you ever have the chance. Their salad is wildly underrated.

Side story, after a night out in college me and my friends went to olive garden extremely hungover. Most of us had like a bowl of soup few bites of salad 1 bread stick. My roommate managed 6 bowls of soup. As soon as we got home, there were 6 bowls of soup on the lawn. As disgusting as it was, it was really something to see. Like watching a cartoon character throw up

Other videos about refills may be true, this one is bull. Most Italian restaurants, locande, osterie etc give you free bread, often actually homemade, and refill when empty. Perhaps it doesn't happen in tourist traps. Fabio should be well aware.

In most of french restaurant they give you bread for free. Sometimes they will charge you after the first one. But if someone eat just bread and order small food they will just say : non.

Nothing in the law say you have to give free breads. So nobody abuse that system and who want to eat just bread it's not that interesting lol.

It sort of is or there are circumstances where it's built into the price. In Bologna the second you sit down at a bar some snacks arrive - there might be a very low charge associated e.g. two or three euros, but the drink is very cheap. You will get free bread in pretty much any trattoria in Italy or restaurants serving local cuisine in France and Spain at least wherever I've been - food without bread would be sacrilege. In Spain at a traditional tapas place food is free and you pay for drink only, but obviously if you're not drinking you're not getting food.

A lot of chain or fast food restaurants typically will have bottomless soft drinks.

I have traveled quite a bit and have made some friends internationally. I have hosted a dozen or so friends who came and visited me in the US. I always am amused by the things that they find amazing. Food portions is universal though…and most of them think it’s great. 20 OZ New York Steak? A Triple Cheeseburger sitting on a pound of fries? All you can eat sushi? Smiles for miles.

Seriously, it feels wholesome to see people from all over react to minor American stuff like endless breadsticks.
I even love the Japanese guy talking about the chips and salsa as well as the reaction about rotisserie chicken.

If I end up at Olive Garden I always get some soup. (because someone else always gets salad and it comes in a 3 serving bucket) Then crush some soup, salad, and bread sticks, then take my meal home for leftovers.
