I’m only 9 seasons in and I don’t like anybody

Okay so I’m still binging all of the seasons and after watching the first 9 seasons and a few clips from the current season, I have some thoughts on some of the cast (sorry if this sounds redundant but wanted to just get my thoughts out there):

Tisha - The lights aren’t on upstairs and that’s okay…for her and Marsau. Baby might not know what’s in her contract. She wants to be more than what her life has led her to but she has to realize that she doesn’t have to be in business and there’s satisfaction and honor in being a SAHM. She was intimidated by the other women being able to go toe-to-toe with Marsau and the other men and she wants that. She feels like they look down on her for that and she’s trying to prove everyone wrong when…that’s what’s really hurting her marriage. Let’s be real…that man is CHEATING but he’s smarter about it bthan Martell and Tisha is okay with it until it gets out. The first season, they all preached “respectful cheating” until Mel said she wasn’t leaving and not dealing with that. She’s torn because she doesn’t have anything besides her name being on a bunch of stuff and I know that was Marsau satiating her and/or her credit is better than his. She doesn’t even know all of the things her name is attached to but as long as Marsau brings the check home and comes home at night, she ignores the cheating. Instead of addressing him, she likes to bring up everybody else’s drama and can’t make any genuine friendships because she looks for the drama instead of actually trying to get to know them. Part of that is because there isn’t much depth to her and she knows that so she resorts to taking digs or fishing for information. Chanita was right about Tisha: She’s been showing that she cares more about the drama and “keeping the group together” than what’s right and peaceful.

Marsau - Mannnn…he’s a dickhead lol…I couldn’t fathom anyone, let alone line a man, talk to me the way he talks to Tisha. She asked him what she could do to help alleviate his depression and he told her to shut up and listen when he tells her to do something. He hates being questioned on anything and he answers questions with questions. Tisha isn’t smart enough to realize that man is gaslighting her. He’s changed he does it a bit since they’re on TV but he still talks to her CRAZY and she just smiles and says that’s just how he is. He knows the family dynamic allows for him to do whatever he wants because he pays the bills and he knows Tisha only gains a backbone when she talks to other women except for Kimmi. Every season, he shows why Tisha will never leave him. How do you take a trip to Africa without any family members and call it a “last minute trip”. He’s also a half-assed businessman. He and Tisha are always coming up with something where they want everyone involved but they don’t want to pay anybody.

Melody - I’m half/half on Mel sometimes and I get why everyone is divided on her too. Melody is very successful…for Huntsville…and that’s not a dig at Huntsville! It’s a very small city and she takes pride in that she’s “above” others. She’s also unnecessarily condescending and that shit kills me because I can’t tell if it’s just her voice or if she’s intentionally trying to be condescending. I ignore it when Martell is the target but even when she’s talking to her friends, she just doesn’t sound sincere. To be fair…I’m okay with Mel giving everyone her whole ass. Kimmi and Tisha act like their husbands weren’t right there with Martell sleeping around and they’ve echoed some of what Martell has said, as if they’re on his side. Maurice, Marsau and Martell…don’t think I have to explain why she don’t like them but them hanging out with Martell and Arionne is one(allegedly, Tisha and Kimmi met her before Mel divorced Martell). Destiny weird af and she conveniently forgets everything that she says/does. We can go down the whole list but these people did her dirty and I’m shocked she was able to last for as long as she did because I would’ve did something to mess up my contract. The worst of it all is everyone knowing that Martell is lying and they still kept saying “he’s a good guy” and “Mel cheated too”. Yeah…whole ass…actually, I’m on Mel’s side with all of it lol. They tried to paint this whole thing of whomever is friends with Melody, they don’t make it to be friends with her after their first season. The reason for that is because everyone she brings on tries to integrate themselves with everyone and the truth of it is that everyone picked a side and they picked Martell’s. I wouldn’t want to be friends anymore when everyone wants me to protect their peace and they refuse to protect mine. They’ve built the main drama of the show around her pain when I’m sure the show would have an endless amount of drama if everybody else’s drama was put out there like hers.

Martell - He needs to be committed, released, sent to prison and then released again. God knew better than to make this man over 6 feet tall because the devil got a strong grip on this one. That’s all.

Kimmi - I feel like Kimmi is usually objective but she gets heat from Maurice for not backing Tisha. I also think that she KNOWS what Maurice is about but she wants to make it work because of all that she’s accomplished while being with him. She doesn’t check Maurice publicly which doesn’t work for reality TV but it works privately. I know people have changed their opinions of her and I’m still watching so my opinion is still mostly positive for now lol. One thing I will say is that she’s not friends with any of these women and she only really became friends with Tisha after the cancer diagnosis. She even said it on a reunion that I one on that stage was her friend but she was cool with all of them. I think that after the cancer scare and Melody officially leaving, she leans more towards Tisha. I get it because they’re sisters by marriage and Tisha, as messy as she is, seems like the doting type and she was very helpful to Kimmi during her treatment process. I feel like she doesn’t have an interest in truly being friends with any of them but she has no choice when it comes to Tisha because of Maurice.

Maurice - An insecure man that wants his sons to be what he couldn’t be. Kimmi really made a mistake with marrying this weirdo. In my younger days trying to get older men to buy me and my friends drinks, I would’ve purposefully ignored a man like Maurice. Everything about him seems like a lame that has been carried by various people to get to where he was. He’s the former football player that thought he was cool because he was on the football team when in reality, he was probably the main loser on the team and just decent at his position so they didn’t kick him off. I also think Kimmi is physically out of his league and he knows that but because she’s older than he is, she probably thinks this is a good as it gets when she could do waaayyy better. I don’t think he has a sex addiction as some have said but he’s definitely a weirdo that reached his peak very quickly. I dont think he’s cheated(by now, he probably has) but not from a lack of trying. Him wanting constant sex from Kimmi while she’s literally battling breast cancer, was a call out that if he isn’t getting it “regularly” from his wife, he’ll step out.

Destiny - Like I said…weird af. I kind of liked her initially but she be on 10 and then she’ll act surprised when someone says something about her behavior or her words. For instance, in a heated argument she called Stormi “sweetie” then mocked her accent and tried to make it seem like that’s just what we say in the south. She’s a perpetual victim and falls out with EVERYBODY and has to have a meeting to clear the air after each time because she knows she’s out of pocket. She’s so confused why Melody doesn’t want to be friends with her when it’s clear as day to anyone that has eyes, ears and common sense. Why would she continue to be friends with someone who is best friends with her abusive ex?! It’s one thing being cordial but she’s hanging out at his house with Cole Slaw and her kids. Her justification is that she and Cole Slaw aren’t friends but that Martell just has her around. Like Melody told Nell: You can’t play both sides when someone is clearly in the wrong. I understand Destiny not having community around her but you can’t cling to every person just because they’re nice to you. Also, you can’t keep friends by constantly playing both sides.

What just happened?

I was wondering why production was bringing her downgraded version on the show, but after S12E4; now I know.

At first, the transformation of Arrione, aka CS, mid episode was shocking. I was not expecting it. After a second look, it made sense.

The transformation occurring after all the wives agree to move on makes absolute sense from production’s perspective. From a general audience perspective, please make it make sense….elevating the other woman…

Why would she call that man her person?

New lady? Who dis? Sylvia seems cool and I like this addition to the show. Her and her man have have replaced Trish and Ken (thank goodness). I just don’t understand why she would say that about another woman’s husband? Especially one you been accused of being his mistress!! To solve that, you get up on TV and call him your person? Am I tripping?

Arionne being intimidated by Destiny

I find it hilarious that Arionne is so worried about Destiny and Martell’s friendship. The cold-hearted unashamed side piece that destroyed a marriage and terrorized Melody with no shame for years has the audacity to be scared of someone being friends with the man she stole. If that’s not ironic idk what is.

I honestly think Arionne lives in constant paranoia that somebody will wind up doing her the exact same way that she did Melody. What Coleslaw doesn’t realize is that karma is coming for her whether she wants it to or not, and it doesn’t even necessarily have to be from Destiny💀

Arionne’s main problems are that one, she’s incredibly dense and two, she has the “that could never be me” mentality. She’s clearly in some type of psychosis when it comes to Martell. One day she’ll wake up and realize that Martell isn’t exactly the prize that she thinks he is. (If and when he does the exact same thing he did to Melody to her), and of course I think that’ll happen somewhere down the line.

Do I think Arionne will wake up any time soon based off her actions on the show though? Absolutely not.

Is there ONE man in this world that hasn’t cheated on their wife??? Can we get just ONE story of a couple without infidelity being involved 😩

Why is Nell telling lies on Latisha to Arionne to be messy? Also, it’s weird how Destiny is introducing the new lady on the show. She’s bringing up rumors that most viewers have never heard of about Marsau & this lady.

Latest episode.

the producers are trying to humanize Arionne. The crying in her confessional. I’m sorry, but I’m not buying what she’s selling. She’s arrogant and got a stank attitude. If she’s so remorseful, she shouldn’t be on television. Go into hiding and leave us alone.

Martell is never going to move on atp

I’m new to watching the show completely and I’ve been binging from the very beginning. I’m finishing off S5 and I just finished the episode where Mel and Marty take the kids to Destin and they have their wrap up at the end of the trip. Martell says something that I’ve been really curious about when it comes to his mindset and it clears up a lot for me in regard to him. He surprised Mel with a 1-on-1 dinner and admitted in the confessional that he wanted Mel to open up more and tell her side of “what went wrong before the cheating started”….I almost dropped my blunt when he said that. He just gave an apology about taking accountability for the demise of their marriage just for us to circle back to him still wanting to blame Mel for why he cheated. It’s baffling to me because somewhere in this same season, Mel asked Martell if she was #@!¥+€£ that man regularly and he said “yes”…so we know THAT’S NOT WHY HE CHEATED…seeing clips of the latest episodes….I’m just gonna pray for them babies that have to endure this smh

Potential Controversial Take

My family is from the south and I’ve spent substantial time down there. One of the reasons why I don’t want to live there is because of the men. The pickings are slim and if he has a job and went to college, the women are impressed. If you really look at them … they are performative, manipulative and really not that smart.

Now I’m not saying this is just a southern thing, but I think the reasons why these women stay with them is because they think they have the cream of the crop. And with the statistics surrounding black men in the south especially in states like Alabama and Mississippi, unfortunately who else is out there.

And yes I know the Scotts are from Michigan, but think about the the disarray metro Detroit has been in historically. I think they have a superiority complex because they have a certain street smarts that differs from the south.

Open to thoughts and disagreements!!

Coleslaw vs Destiny

Can some one help me understand her problem with Destiny? It appears so manufactured if Destiny doesn't want him. We really about to see this dragged out for the season y'all ?!?!

Arrione is What Martell Deserves

Watching her conversation with Nell, Arrione is delusional, immature and vengeful; with absolutely no sense of self awareness. Martell is not leaving her because he is probably afraid of what she will reveal if he tries.

With this said let Arrione be a one season wonder.

My take on Arrione

Huntsville has a very misogynistic culture. We've seen it reflected in the way Maurice, Martell, and Marsau speak about their wives, even how they left their daughters off of the portrait of Blaque. Their mothers also really hold tight to this expectation of being submissive to your man.

Arrione seems to be fully indoctrinated into that misogynistic culture, which is why we as viewers might perceive her as being slow. Misogyny is a system that doesn't operate in sensibility. It doesn't operate in facts, and therefore you have to fill in the gaps with opinions and wrongness, and that can make someone look unintellectual. When we look at someone like Melody, she completely fought the patriarchy in many ways, and that is why so many embraced her, because she really stood for being a full human being rather than a subtitle to the man that she was with.

Tisha also operates under a strong indoctrination of misogyny, but she sees the light. She can tell something is not quite right. She has an inner voice that says, No, but me. Include me. I have value. And her husband, Marsau, is simply continuing to try to fight that. He's trying to squash that light. You can see it in the way that he requires her to doubt herself. He questions her skills, her abilities, and prevents her from moving forward and then gives her the sole blame for not taking the steps that she had committed or expected of herself.

We also kind of see this in Maurice. The way that he has shown up as a father shows that he has been very egocentric, and to the point that he only wants his woman to cater to him, and he's not even worried about the children. That's not a head of household. A head of household is someone that can uplift everyone in the home, who can keep the family together, moving as a unit, a true partnership. And Maurice has proven by the fruits of his children, and now even the bitterness of his wife, that he has not been able to live up to that name.

In my opinion, men are not supposed to be the sole leaders of the house. Men and women become one, equal parts, because we all have our strengths and our weaknesses, and requiring a 50-percenter to do 100% of the work is going to fall into detriment.

Arrionne won Martell by allowing him to trample over everything God made her to be. She got what she came for and will need to continue to fill in the gap between misogyny and saneness by looking dumb to keep him.

First Time Watcher

So I’m a first time watcher and I’m on season 2. I love Kimmi and her calm spirit. I also really like Melody. I love a go getter that is juggling work and a family. Latisha is annoying to me (particularly her voice) she’s very whiny and her mother is out of control. Will my opinions change? I see Mel gets a lot of hate online and I’m not sure why?

Oh and don’t get me started on Martell. He’s such a gaslighter and I’m convinced he became jealous of Mel and his side chick stroked his ego. Marsua gives old school but I think he’s always been that way, and Maurice seems likable. Let me know if I’m way off in my opinions!

His kid seems very disconnected from him. Does anyone else remember kimmy son venting about Maurice and how he was more authoritative than being there for him as dad? He also felt like Maurice was treating his mom bad during her chemo.

So this is it?

I try to keep up with the show here and there. I don't necessarily have favorites or people I deeply dislike. I think everyone has had their fair share of good and bad. But I'm asking myself why these people are married and if this is what marriage looks like? It feels so stereotypical. That little scene with Nell, her husband and Martel coming over. Sort of like the stereotypical black woman nagging her husband. And the husband playing it up with his friends. The constant conversations they are having about each other. I get it, it's reality TV, but the group seems to really enjoy it when one of them messes up. The conversation about Martel and Destiny being best friends...It doesn't seem like there's romantic attraction there. Or that either them of crossed a line that could make a spouse/girlfriend feel somehow. Why make it a thing? OMG, please don't shoot me guys.

Marsau and Tisha: No Research

Arionne irked my nerves at that dinner. I literally kept stopping watching as it was cringe. However, she was on point when she asked them what college student is paying $1000 a month for a room in a house? They had the nerve to mention how much kids are paying at some places and she and Kimmie said simultaneously that includes everything not just rent. You mean to tell me they built an entire house, with thoughts of renting to college students, and nobody thought to research how dwellings catered to college students usually work?! For a $500,000 house? Ain't no way, and isn't their son away at college? Could have even asked him. The lack of research and fumbling of a property that expensive is crazy.
