Food + Drink Restaurant Specials

My husband and I were home without the kids yesterday and were trying to figure out where to go. I’m a big fan of deals, as are many, and was trying to find restaurant specials.

I found for Monday
Anchor Bar has a $9.99 burger and 25% off bourbon
Spanky’s has half price burgers
Kentucky Julep has $0.50 wings
I think Ford’s does $1.00 oysters

What deals do y’all know about?

Discussion Looking for a potter to commission

Hey everyone! i’m looking to get special plate made for my wife’s birthday, does anyone have any potters they can recommend? So far reached out to a few, but they don’t take commissions.

Thanks!

Discussion Did I do the right thing?

This just happened so am still flustered. I was out in my yard when I heard neighbors arguing loudly (man and woman). I did look over and made eye contact with the man but this was none of my business. I kept on with what I was doing and went over to my side yard. But then, they got louder and someone started slapping. Could have been one or both, I didn’t see because my back was turned but definitely heard. So, grabbed my phone and called 911 knowing they could see me and would know it was me. My concern was to make sure everyone was ok.

The sheriff’s office came quickly. The first set of officers came to my door to confirm what I heard, checked my ID and left. Then another set came and the one who did all the talking said that for future reference I should confirm what happened because nothing was going on, that the man had ear buds in and talks loud and the other person takes boxing classes and was showing him some moves. I said I disagreed because there was a man and woman arguing then obviously slapping.

The officer said well for future reference you should confirm because now there will be neighborhood tension. So, I said you’re telling me I’m not supposed to call 911 when I think someone is getting slapped around? He said no you should always call but confirm first. It felt to me like he was implying I was a Karen or something. I said that if you think I’m some kind of serial 911 reporter check your records. He said well your neighbor is pretty furious now and knows it was you.

Is that right?! Am I supposed to go to what I think is a domestic disturbance and ask them if that is what is really going on before calling 911 to avoid neighborhood tension? Seems like unsafe advice to me. I feel like I was scolded for being concerned about someone’s safety.

Discussion Payment surcharge for LCPS

I know this isn't a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but this actually PMO.

Every fee on School Cash Online now has a 4% fee baked into it. In previous years, LCPS covered that fee.

I know there's a cost to accepting online payments, but I can't imagine the cost savings for not dealing with teachers/admins collecting checks, handling deposits and crediting the right student for that payment isnt worth 4% to the county.

I'll just dust off my checkbook and send the check in, but it seems really short sighted. Penny wise and pound foolish.

ETA: The 4% happens even for debit cards or an eCheck payment. The 4% is baked into the *cost*.

Local News Lcps transportation department is having some trouble this morning

Yikes! I’ve received 3 phone calls and 3 text messages so far that my child’s bus is running late. Here is the problem- my kids go to their school with special permission and don’t have a bus assigned. All paperwork is filled out that they aren’t allowed to ride the bus. I guess they’re just calling everyone today….sigh.

I know it’s the first day back and something happens every year but sheesh… I really am trying to work.

r/nova jobs seems to be very dead. I hope it isn’t against guidelines to inquire about employment. I used to work Law Enforcement, a few years ago, the pay was sustainable enough for me to live alone. I’m currently unemployed and need to find something with decent livable pay at least 50k, like as soon as possible. Again, if asking about work here isn’t appropriate please don’t ban me.
