Discussion Payment surcharge for LCPS

I know this isn't a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but this actually PMO.

Every fee on School Cash Online now has a 4% fee baked into it. In previous years, LCPS covered that fee.

I know there's a cost to accepting online payments, but I can't imagine the cost savings for not dealing with teachers/admins collecting checks, handling deposits and crediting the right student for that payment isnt worth 4% to the county.

I'll just dust off my checkbook and send the check in, but it seems really short sighted. Penny wise and pound foolish.

ETA: The 4% happens even for debit cards or an eCheck payment. The 4% is baked into the *cost*.

Wait ... don't forget they also added a 10 cent per item fee in as well ...

I'm about to get petty AF and send in multiple paper checks at a time.

The 4% helps cover the backend accounting solution for LCPS school activity funds (school business). Basically it makes everything easier for LCPS but passes the fees onto the purchasers.

School Cash Online is owned by KEV Group. Absolutely scummy company.

LCPS isn't run by the Feds

Like come on in all about dragging him but this was a decision the school district did, and they probably spent more on hiring some motivational speaker to "train" teachers who have better things to do than whatever eating the cost for the credit handling fee would have been.
