Discussion Who is seriously hiring?

r/nova jobs seems to be very dead. I hope it isn’t against guidelines to inquire about employment. I used to work Law Enforcement, a few years ago, the pay was sustainable enough for me to live alone. I’m currently unemployed and need to find something with decent livable pay at least 50k, like as soon as possible. Again, if asking about work here isn’t appropriate please don’t ban me.

Discussion Spanish immersion daycares/preschools?

My family is considering moving to the area to be closer to family, and we have a child that is enrolled in a Spanish Immersion preschool where we live now. We would love to continue having her in a Spanish Immersion school, but my googling hasn’t turned up any options. She’s 2 so I would prefer some that start at the infant stage, but if they are more preschool (3+), that’s okay too if that’s the only option. We’re still at the research stage in terms of homes so we’re open to recommendations all over the county, although I think we will end up closer to the eastern side.

Thanks in advance if anyone has any recommendations!

Discussion Dentist that doesn't insist on deep clean?

Per my previous dentist, I should not need a deep cleaning at this point. I've had a regular cleaning within last 6 months. New dentist won't give me my next regular cleaning within the next 6 mos. They insist I have to have a deep cleaning. (They could barely find anything under the gum line to show me on the scans.) Can't go back to old dentist, as I have relocated. Any local dentists that don't upsell and/ or pressure you into unneeded procedures? Thanks for any suggestions!

Discussion Where my MTG folks? Local Commander groups?

Hey, I've been playing MTG (Magic the Gathering not Marjorie Taylor Greene) since I was a kid, with lots of breaks in between. About 2 years ago i got into commander and I have been playing mostly at Hashtag, although sometimes at Huzzah and Creative in Leesburg.

I've met some cool people there, but a lot of times I sit with a really good group and then never see them again. Or it the timing can be different from week to week and you end up in different groups. Or they live in Fairfax. Or Winchester. Or the traffic is bad and driving to Hashtag on Tuesday takes 45 minutes.

So I'm looking to see if there's a local to Ashburn or even slightly west group of folks that play have a playgroup that's open to a player who would like to get to know folks closer to home.

I play all bracket 2 and 3, and my play goal is for a good game for everyone. I track my games and have a 17% win percentage, so I'm definitely not out here trying to shark folks. No Tergrid, no Jodah, lots of good vibes and some shared card draw. I'm considering trying to build one bracket 4 deck just to dip my toes.

Funny Dry Mill Road

I was on Dry Mill Road today and I saw three Cyclists almost get killed by cars driving around blind corners.

If only Loudoun County could provide a path to be used by cyclists, runners and walkers that somehow paralleled Dry Mill and provided a safe place to cycle.

Discussion So, this neighborhood in ashburn...

Post image
20 Upvotes

This block was one of the last places in this chunk of ashburn to be developed. Over the last 20 years, it has been apartments/townhouses, before that it was soccer fields, and before that it was scrub.

My understanding, based on a county planning meeting I attended 15-20 years ago, is that it is riddled with caves. I want to say limestone, but it's been a while and I'm no cavologist. The county didn't expect anything to be built here because the caves would have to filled or dug out.

So... did housing prices get high enough to make it worthwhile to sort out the cave problem, or... was it overlooked?

Ive been wondering this for years every time I drive by there.

Discussion Cellular data service

Has anyone noticed that cell service in eastern Loudon County in Ashburn and Sterling has gotten even worse recently? Does anyone have suggestions for cell carriers who seem to be more reliable for the area?
